You shall kill your egos. This is better for you in the sight of your Creator." He did redeem you. He is the Redeemer, Most Merciful. "

His is the only translation that refers to the ego...so...what do you guys think? I think "faktil anfusakum" pretty much means straightforward kill yourselves, unless in Arabic it could have a less literal meaning.

Yes. The voice in the head is the ego. So if the word "anfusukum" in Ayah can be understood and translated as your egos, then the whole meaning of the Ayah would make perfect sense.

So then, it COULD mean the ego. Besides, isn't it said in the Quran that none will know the absolute, 100% true interpretations of the Quran other than Allah? We are obliged to believe in it and follow it to the best of our abilitiy, but only God knows how he is using that word in the verse I provided.

*plural of nafs.

The Arabic word "nafs" can have more than just one meaning. It could mean self. It could mean life. Or, it could mean the voice in the head. There could be other meanings too.
