How long was the duration of the two terms?

If hajj means feast according to some, then 4 feasts/year is 8 feasts in two years.

Does it seem right asked to work eight feasts and stay on for an extra two feasts?

Perhaps if the employer was asking as an example to manage 8/10 wedding banquet receptions.

Or was it eight time-lengths (years for example) and asked to stay on an extra two?

Exactly, farming communities who tend to crops and fruit trees are not nomadic. So "eight" feasts will depend on how many harvest feasts they had in a year. If they had 1 then it is 8 years. If they had 2 then it is 4 years. Most communities have 1-2 harvest feasts per year. They typically have a harvest feast in mid summer to celebrate first fruits and then another one in early fall at the end of the growing season. Those feasts coincide with the full-moons. The early fall one is the main one. My understanding from the great reading is that there are three opportunities to have the feast on the three full-moons from mid-summer to early fall. Communites can select which one or more of these to have their harvest feast on.

Thank you for brining up this importan question.

One major problem. What you are describing is the lifestyle of nomads. Madian was a city. So those were not nomads. They were city dwellers. City dwellers don't migrate every year and abandon their city for half of the year.

After pondering and seeking guidance from God the answer finally came to me; last night was watching an interesting documentary about nomads and their yearly migration north in the mountains to better pastures which the main characters was an old man and his daughters. It was an arduous journey and the one daughter said she wishes she could help her father more since he was old and her being female.

eight hijajin -- eight migrations or twice a year for 4 years they migrate with all their animals and possessions between pastures in the spring up to the mountains and back down again in the fall.

so if you completed ten so from at you (i.e. up to you)?

Interesting. might link well to hajj verses. Thanks for the topic. How long did they stay in the north/mountains before going back?
