In a thread on justice between people recently the view (based on Sunni doctrines) that a person could retain or have a right against someone in the afterlife because of wrongs committed against them was raised.

The essence of the view was that crimes against the laws of the God could be forgiven by the God, but that crimes against people could remain unforgiven by the victim and thus lead one to hell.

I argued against this view based on basic principles of the all encompassing justice of the God; and that the idea of giving some of this forgiving power away to humans so that they had control over your future was nonsense.

Here are the verses I believe that prove the case that you are accountable to the God alone for any and all of your wrongdoing.

3425. Say "You will not be questioned about the sins that we have committed, nor shall we be questioned about your deeds."

3426. Say "Our Lord will gather us together and judge between us equitably, for He is the Judge all-knowing."

So this means no one is questioned about any one elses actions nor responsible for them in any way. If a crime has been committed against you then you have no right to condemn the person to hell (even though that's where they may be going) - only the God decides by weighing with full justice the accounts.

A related example (again from Sunni doctrine) is that mother's have a right over their children and this is codified in some cultures by nonsense such as "Paradise is at/beneath a mother's feet". Say a person has fallen out with their mother for some reason and she condemns that person to hell and curses them for life. Again the issue of rights over someone in the afterlife apply - and the individual concerned will be judged only by the God. Any good and bad will be judged equitably, and no curses or condemnations from the mouths of people will matter in the least if that person is forgiven by the God after repenting sincerely and reforming.

No grudge can condemn a person.

No one has rights over any other person in the afterlife, whether they be wronged or not. It is up to the individual who does wrong to make things right, repent and reform. Whether the victim is satisfied with that or not and wants to continue to hold a grudge is immaterial.

The God is the one who forgives, and it is He who judges equitably.
