The idea of "a clear Quran" applies to the guidance and such, not necessarily these things which would be beyond the majority of humans until naval expeditions took hold.

Consider 5533 (SHAKIR O assembly of the jinn and the men! If you are able to pass through the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass through; you cannot pass through but with authority), is there any doubt as to its meaning today? What about back in 6th century Arabia?

Interesting theory. But the implications would make the passage completely incomprehensible to the old arabs, which would render the Quran not-so-clear, at least for them.

Perhaps the Arabs had a different interpretation that was logical at that time. It can go more than one way.
