Pakistan and beyond

Cheering for the bully to save the Victim!
Edip Yuksel

I have been a skeptical and analytical person especially when dealing with issues involving theology, philosophy, politics, and conventions. However, I have usually been rather na?ve regarding human beings; I usually assume good faith and intentions of people when I first encounter them.

This good will sometimes includes the individuals leading organizations. When I was first led to the website of freemuslims.org, after reading one or two pages, I got excited and immediately contacted the founder of the organization and sent him the following email on October 16th, 2006

"Dear brother Kamal I recently visited your organization's website and browsed some articles. It seems we share major concerns and goals. Perhaps, we should get to know each other. I would like to invite you to read the Manifesto for Islamic Reform published at www.islamicreform.org You may find my other articles and books at www.19.org and www.yuksel.org Peace, Edip"

After a round of emails and telephone conversations, learning a little more about the political position of the organization, I had some reservations, and I wrote back to him

"Thank you for asking me to join FreeMuslims. I am not yet ready to join your organization since I made a decision not to join any organization until the Quran A Reformist Translation is published. I am rejecting some media requests for interviews for the same reason, which was also advised to me by my editor. Though I publish my articles at my internet site, it does not put me in the limelight beyond my control."

Today, I received an article from Kamal entitled "Who Killed Benazir Bhutto?" Unlike Kamal, being familiar with the global politics, I am not much interested in learning exactly who killed Bhutto. To me, the more important and useful question is a different one who would benefit from such a killing? Knowing how nation's secret services conduct covert operations, how they engage in propaganda, misinformation, how they commit assassinations and atrocities even through "hostile" organizations, I am not interested in the "who pulled the trigger" part. To me, the environment and policies that incubate and create such assassin's fingers are more telling. What the poor teenager shouted when he blew himself up is important, but it may not tell us anything about the "real" killer that created those who brainwashed him and trained him.

That said, I would like to question the real mission of an American organization led either by an extremely uninformed and gullible individual or ? you fill in the blank. I will intersperse my response within his short article.

KAMAL NAWASH While there is no conclusive answer to who killed former Pakistani prime minister Bhutto, so far the only claim of responsibility has come from an Al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan, who posted the claim of responsibility on an Italian Web site. Al Qaeda posted the following message "We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat the mujahideen. (holy warriors)"

Bhutto was an outspoken critic of Al Qaeda and other extremist Islamist groups. Consequently, Al Qaeda and other Islamist groups hated her for her rhetoric, for supporting secularism and for being a woman.

While we can't know for sure who killed Bhutto, on two occasions, Al Qaeda also tried to kill Pakistani president Musharraf. This brings us to the state of emergency that was enacted by Musharraf in November to "defend" Pakistan from extremists and terrorists." At that time the United States and much of the world criticized Musharraf and pressured him to lift the state of emergency and to resign as the army chief, a position he held alongside the position of president.

Currently, the only force that can keep Pakistan intact and safe from terrorists is the Pakistani military. The Pakistani military and president Musharraf know better than any outsider what it takes to keep Pakistan from failing and falling into the hands of terrorists and extremists. It is a mistake for the United States or any other country to interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan by pressurizing the Pakistani government to take any action that Pakistan does not want to take. It should be left up to the Pakistani people to decide whether emergency rule stays or not, whether the president wears an army uniform or not and when and whether elections are held.

EDIP YUKSEL Though the article does not deal why and how Musharraf came to power, I accept it as background information.

NAWASH The wrong interference by the United States and the weakening of the Pakistani military's control over Pakistan may produce a repeat of the disaster that brought clerical rule to Iran. In 1979, the Shah of Iran was deposed when the military refused to back him and the country fell into the hands of religious fundamentalists who continue to rule the country. This must not happen in Pakistan. The United States needs to be more emphatic to the particular circumstances of Pakistan and not to pressure Pakistan to do anything that is a threat to the stability and security of the country. If president Musharraf abuses his powers it is up to the majority of the Pakistani people to stop him and not foreign governments. The Pakistanis have a long democratic tradition and are capable of protecting their rights and institutions. An example is when Pakistani lawyers took to the streets to demonstrate against the weakening of the judiciary.

EDIP In the paragraph above a diabolic propaganda and disinformation screams. Mr. Nawash accuses the US of not supporting the Shah and thus unknowingly contributing to the rise and victory of mullahs in Iran. The author either lacks elementary knowledge about the subject, or he is intentionally hiding and distorting the facts. What led to the theocratic fascism in Iran was not the USA's lacking support for a corrupt dictator, but to the contrary, USA-Inc's support of a dictator and his corrupt and oppressive policy led to the mullah's victory in 1979. For those whose knowledge of history cannot go beyond 1979, I would like to recommend the following key words to google Iran, Musaddiq, CIA, 1953, and coup.

NAWASH While democracy is a great ideal, Pakistan is currently facing turmoil and the Pakistanis need a strong president, a strong central government and a strong military to keep order. This remains the case despite allegations that the Pakistani military has been infiltrated by extremist elements. The United States should take no action to undermine the power of the central government, the military or president Musharraf, who has been a great ally in fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Currently, the Pakistani military has more than 100, 000 troops fighting extremists on the Pakistani/Afghanistan border at a miniscule cost to the United States.

EDIP The paragraph above exposes the so-called freemuslims.org like smell exposes the presence of a skunk. Nawash and his ilk, hide the obvious fact that suicide bombers and terrorists are generated by dictatorships, military regimes and occupations. Just look at the pattern USA-backed fascist Israeli regime incubated and generated suicide bombers. USA-backed Saudi dictatorship incubated and generated 15 of the 19 terrorist bombers and their leader Ben Laden. USA-backed mujahids incubated and generated al-Qaida. USA-backed generals incubated and generated Taliban (who later took control of Afghanistan). USA-backed Shah incubated and generated mullahs. USA-backed Saddam incubated and generated mass murderers. The list is long and it includes numerous countries in three continents.

The fruits of USA-Inc helping dictators and military thugs have been the following wars, atrocities, repression, oppression, poverty, civil wars, destruction, torture, tragedies, regression for the citizens of third world countries AND enormous profits for the USA's "military industrial complex" and other big multinational corporations such as Oil and Construction companies.

Abacha of Nigeria, Hugo of Bolivia, Batista of Cuba, Botha of South Africa, General Humberto of Brazil, Vinicio of Guatemala, Roberto Cordova of Honduras, Alfredo of El Salvador, Ngo Dihn of Vietnam, General Samuel of Liberia, Duvalier of Haiti, King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, General Franco of Spain, Hassan II of Morocco, Ferdinand Marcos of Phillippines, Mobuto of Zaire, General Montt of Guatemala, General Noriega of Panama, Shah Pahlavi of Iran, Papadopoulos of Greece, Chung Hee of South Korea, General Pinochet of Chile, Pol Pot of Cambodia, Salazar of Portugal, Somoza of Nicaragua, Suharto of Indonesia, General Videla of Argentina, General Zia ul-Haq of Pakistan, Mubarak of Egypt, and now General Musharraf? What these former and current USA-Inc stooges offered to their people? And who gained from the their dictatorship?

Al-Qaida might be the enemy of a civilized world (whatever it means), but now we can be sure that al-Qaida is the enemy of Muslims AND the biggest benefactor of American Weapon, Oil and Construction industries. Arm dealers and the filthy rich are not morally better than used-car sales people, and they care neither about the American taxpayer nor the world, except their bottom line, which is MONEY. Al-Qaida is the biggest bonanza for the USA-Inc after they lost the Communist bogeyman. And dictators and Muslims with a slave mentality are petty stooges to justify their plunder and hegemony.

More than ONE MILLION dead and MILLIONS of orphans, wounded and displaced Iraqis should be sufficient to show the intelligent the identity of the biggest threat to the world, including the American people who lose money and blood and now owe $30,000 per capita to debt created by corpolititans USA-Inc and its stooges!

For the short term, continuing to support the dictator Musharraf might be the only choice to stop the escalation of violence and chaos in Pakistan. But, considering the history and pattern of the USA-Inc, we should all try to stop its policy of supporting dictators around the world.

The bully smacked a poor boy in the head with a bat. The poor boy gets disoriented and is going to fall on the concrete. The poor boy's friend cheers for the bully "Bully! Save the poor boy; hit him with the bat on the other side!" Ironically, the bully has been smacking many poor boys all along, and people like Kamal Nawash have always cheered for the bully to save the victim!

No, muslims do not need friends like Nawash!

No doubt you have a deep look in to matters but here you seem to be influenced by the propoganda of EDIP.

Benazeer Bhutto a great leader daughter of great leader, the first MUSLIM women prime minister, was always hated and abused by religous extremists and religous fundamentalists, this point Edip does not takes into account while commenting.
Benazeer Bhutto when first became elected as the prime minister of Pakistan, I remember the oppositions handbills with Quranic Ayats translated "MEN are rulers over the Women......". So this hatred for her was from the day first using Quran as support, it was often talked about in even some moderate muslim Pakistani's houses that "Now when a women has become the ruler of our country we will face wrath of Allah".

Edip does not seem to understand the present position which Pakistan is in now, Al-Qaida has strong roots rather the Head quarter of it has shifted to Pakistan the land of Pukhtuns is fertile for their agenda demographically and culturally. Even the internet clubs and cafes are been exploded by bombs in urban districts such as Peshawar and Bannu. They are every where and spreading fastly, and the only attempt to stop them was by MUSSHARAF weather I like him or not. You have to study the history of these people where Al-Qaida and Taliban are growing and glowing, they are no muslims at all in my point of view, before the TALiBan they used to grow Hashish and Heroine and still perform five times prayers regularly, they used to kidnap innocent people from Urban areas for ransom and still fast for thirty full days, they are cancer of our society, no government of Pakistan dared ever to touch them, an example is that of AKBAR BUGTI just google about this war lord and you will know how barbaric were his acts, and he considered himself little God, and only MUSHARAFF government got rid of him.
I am no advocate of MUSHARAFF but in the present circumstances he is the best option for Pakistan.

I almost agree with the article of KAMAL accept few pragraphs, it is well written article in general bravo bravo

Peace sis,
I partially agree with you ) There is a faction who are trying to push us/take us back into time, and they are effecting the pace of Pakistan in moving forward. but the vast majority of Pakistanis are doing their best to move forward and I think we have moved forward in spite of these elements and their ability to cause destruction.

If you remember, the government even invited the imam of kabaa to Pakistan to convince the mullahs of lal masjid to give up their hard stance, but they didn't. suicide bombing have been labeled unislamic by almost every major religious scholar of Pakistan, there are regular programs on such issues almost on every channel. The problem is that the only people who can make a difference are the mullah who mentally prepare these people for such acts, for them only they are right and for them only their interpretation of the verses of Quran in the light of hadiths is the right interpretation.

Hasan Bin Sabah. 1034 - 1124

Not much is known about Hassan, but legends abound as to the tactics used to induct members into his quasi-religious political organization. A future assassin was subjected to rites very similar to those of other mystery cults in which the subject was made to believe that he was in imminent danger of death. But the twist of the assassins was that they drugged the person to simulate a "dying" to later have them awaken in a garden flowing with wine and served a sumptuous feast by virgins. The supplicant was then convinced he was in Heaven and that Sabbah was a representative of the divinity and that all of his orders should be followed, even to death. This legend derives from Marco Polo, who visited Alamut just after it fell to the Mongols in the thirteenth century. Other accounts of the indoctrination attest that the future assassins were brought to Alamut at a young age and, while they matured, inhabited the aforementioned paradisial gardens and were kept drugged with hashish; as in the previous version, Hassan occupied this garden as a divine emissary. At a certain point (when their initiation could be said to have begun) the drug was withdrawn from them, and they were removed from the gardens and flung into a dungeon. There they were informed that, if they wished to return to the paradise they had so recently enjoyed it would be at Sabbah's discretion, and that they must therefore follow his directions exactly, up to and including murder and self-sacrifice.

I'm not sure, but I believe the "Kamakazi" pilots were before "Tamil Tigers."

I am not sure that kamikaze are included in the category such as it is drawn. For one they were regular military, for another they fulfilled the orders of a regular established State command and it was regular warfare in a declared war against another army. Not that I have any interest one way or another. What I was trying to point out is that "muslim" "suicide bombers", fake or otherwise are not by far all that chracteristic, not the most numerous and not the most deadly even if they are the only ones that are continually drummed on the media. And if I point this out it is not either because I am fighting for an honourable place for Muslims in the suicide business, but because when we get fed something contrary to fact or distorting of it, there must be a reason to it and if we want not to lead with our chins we should want to know as accurately as possible what goes on and that we are in fact fed some facts and are robbed of others.

I don't think it's fair to compare Musharaf to Zia - the two are nothing alike. If anyone has heard him speak, they will know that he doesn't mince his words. This makes a refreshing change from the spin and bullshit we get in politics. The guy is sincere and that is good enough for me.

He is in a very difficult job, and for me has done the best that I expect of anyone. How many of us do right by our parents, children and spouses, imagine then how hard it is to do right by an entire nation and the world.

Remember the state Nawaz left pakistan in. It was on the brink of bankruptcy and a nuclear war with India. Both the economic situation and the relationship with India has improved vastly. He is only the guy the taliban will talk with, which is why the US&UK haven't assassinated him yet. If he is Americas poodle then why did he withdraw his forces from Waziristan and sign a peace deal with the Taliban and stop america from carpeting it. He is the only poodle I know who has openly critised the Iraq war on an American chat show directly contradicted bush & blair by saying the Iraq war had made matters worse.

If he makes peace with the taliban he is called a terrorist, if he makes peace with America he is called a puppet. I don't expect my politicians to be saints, all I expect sincerity and diligence.

At the end of the day there is only so much one man can do. Pakistanis are quick to fault the leader without questioning their own actions and contributions to their country. Right now, it's not Musharaf burning down businesses and rioting in the streets, it's the people - they have a choice.

Maybe I needed to have been more specific. The general laws put in place to protect the people are far better in other countries than Pakistan and i'm not just talking about the USA.

Yes I agree with you every nation has black sheeps but I'm talking from experience here of what Pakistan is like and they do have a long way to go to become civilised and the key to it is EDUCATION.

Salam, sitting right in the middle of it , i can only say, that i completely agree with you.

siki

Dear siki,
No doubt you have a deep look in to matters but here you seem to be influenced by the propoganda of EDIP.

Salaam

I tend to agree with Nawash. USA has done what it can to unseat Musharraf but, obviously hasn't been able.

Absolutely right, Musharraf has not lived up to their expectations like Mubarak or else he could have gone on and on and on without importing BB.

I am sure that the agencies are capable of creating many things inside their country, and the agencies of the big powers, particularly Britain and USA, anywhere in the world, and they do it all the time

Outside agencies succeeded because the insider sold their soul for a measurable price.

It is very important for the rest of the world that Pakistan does not fall into imperial hands, in sha Allah, or hell will be still more loose on this earth.

May be its too late as economy matters most to people everywhere in the world and strings are in the hands of those who own the lot. Past corrupt politicians, including BB, did not use the aid given to Pakistan as it should have been. The West gave aid on Monday and by Wednesday it was back in Western banks, in the personal accounts of the politicians and the public, their children and their grandchildren are left to pay back the money with interest.
National assets have been sold to investors from abroad. Multinationals, like Nestle, control water and milk supply plus much more. Inside the army hold huge assets and its expanding at the expense of the public. Now the aid lines the pockets of the army, With this sort of indulgence how will they defend country? This remains to be seen.

Best regards
farida .

Pakistan and beyond on Thu, 25 Sep 2025 11:16:59 GMT

The suicide bombers started in our time, as far as I know with the tamil elam tigers, before any of those mentioned. The tigers are the organizsation which has authored more murders and suicide bombings ever in the world and it is not a creation of any Pakistani regime. I tend to agree with Nawash. USA has done what it can to unseat Musharraf but, obviously hasn't been able. As to the government which Pakistan should have, I think it is a question which only Pakistanis should solve, and as far as I can see, like everywhere else by the way, the choice is not particularly enticing. So to say "oh we should have democracy" is mere platitude. Ideally we should have this and that, in fact we cannot have almost anything. So it is not a matter of choice that we should be fighting over what we should choose. Musharraf was clear that the taliban-muyahidin had become a liability for Pakistan, not for USA sake, but for Pakistan sake. Wahtever the need at other moment, that moment was gone.

I am sure that the agencies are capable of creating many things inside their country, and the agencies of the big powers, particularly Britain and USA, anywhere in the world, and they do it all the time. So I agree that the Pakistani agencies may create wheatever. But the point is that the work those groups the Pakistani agencies might have created, matches much more the interest of the impire that those of the Pakistani nation included its present Goverment. It is ridiculous to think that Musharraf is serving the interests of the USA-Britain-Israel, when in fact Pakistan is allied with China, and coordinates with China its external policy. The elements purportedly acting at the bid of the Pakistani Government as terrorists have in fact attacked Chinese coooeration with Pakistan, which obviously is not a pro- mUsharraf move. If Musharraf was doing the imperial bid, why should the West continually embarass the Pakistani Government pushing for hot putrsuit and questioning continually Pakistans pkeep of its nuclear, and why ship Benazir? The west could handle Musharraf much better if however they might order him around, were not obvious about it. So if they are and with no particular benefit except enrage Pakistan's population, it is obviously that they are not favouring Musharraf.
The logical flaws in the argument are obvious. However, what is important is that no matter which the disagreements are, Pakistanis keep cool and don't get taken in somebody else's game and don't fight amongs themsleves. They must come to a consensus however difficult. I am sure, if they put their mind to it, they can. If not all, at least most of them, and let whoever is unable to come to it, take their pick.

It is very important for the rest of the world that Pakistan does not fall into imperial hands, in sha Allah, or hell will be still more loose on this earth.

Concerning the Sha, it was in fact the west who threw him out. He was becoming too much of his own master. The West could not allow, and still cannot allow any country in the middle east to become to powerful or important (except pimp Israel, of course). Therefore the held in storage in Paris Khomeini was shipped to Iran, so that he could undo whatever good could have been done in Iran previously, job at which he succeeded, but not completely.

Salaam
