Someone please tell me that the Quran doesn't say that. Because, I thought God gave us freedom of religion. Why do so many countries think they should kill a person who say chooses to leave Islam and become a Krishna or whatever? I guess it's just another one of the things I pray have been mistranslated (ie the cutting off of a thieves hands). I'm not looking for this to be sugar-coated, I want it straight.

    Peace all

      Salaam Lilyfleur,

Someone please tell me that the Quran doesn't say that.

      You're correct. The qur'an doesn't say that.

Because, I thought God gave us freedom of religion.

      You're correct again.

Why do so many countries think they should kill a person who say chooses to leave Islam and become a Krishna or whatever?

Well, try asking Bukhari for this one.

I guess it's just another one of the things I pray have been mistranslated (ie the cutting off of a thieves hands).

In Bahasa Indonesia edition, yes, the thing about freedom of diin is grossly mistranslated. I don't know about the translation you use though.

I'm not looking for this to be sugar-coated, I want it straight.

Hopefully it was straight enough for you. ;D

May Peace and GOD's Blessings be with you lilyfleur,

I can assure you that the Quran says absolutely Nothing about killing those who wish to leave Islam for another religion or even to just leave Islam, alternative religion or not. Anyone who tries to claim that there is an "Apostate Killing" rule within Islam has a very big problem one their hands trying to justify that view against 4137.

          GOD Bless,
          Damon.

            adley, Arnold Yasin, & Damon,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Tons and tons of love and peace to you all!!!

p.s. I'm satisfied enough with your answers to lock this subject (can I do that?). I'm sure some people find these basic questions, that I'm sure have been asked many times before, quite taxing. I thank you for your patience.

              You're most certainly welcome.

By the way, don't forget to visit Wakas' Study Quran Site It has everything you can possible need there for your Quranic studies and then some. Two pages that you may find very useful are the Word Search to locate and study specific words in the quran and the Topics Index to study specific topics/subjects in the quran.

              Peace be with you,
              Damon.

                      just a question.

                      Peace phoenix1,

If the Quran said that, then not only would I not obey, but I would no longer believe that the Quran was sent by God, and therefore no longer call myself a Muslim. I came to Islam only 2 years ago in January and quite honestly have just recently begun rediscovering it. Initially, I nearly went loopy trying to become the Muslim the women at the mosque told me I needed to be. My instincts told me something was wrong when a) These so called crucially important hadiths were almost impossible for me to find (where as my first reading of the Quran came from a public library) and b) the few hadiths I did find contradicted what I was reading in the Quran and themselves. When I read the Quran and knew to the depths of my soul that the book was of God, I then believed and knew I had to convert. And then the signs just kept coming which confirmed that I was on the right path. I tried very hard to do all the things the women told me I had to do to be a true Muslim (after taking Shahada). I actually discovered free-minds not too long after converting but was at first afraid to give up the idea of following hadith. I moved to NYC where I became quite busy in my career and so was able to in many ways "let go". I knew that I still wanted to please God and continue to grow and perhaps find peace with Him, but what I needed most was just to let God guide me. In NY I met a completely cool girl who was from a family forever Muslim. She was no longer practicing but believed. She had a lot to do with me regaining my sanity if you will. She expressed the same views I felt inside about how crazy some of the rituals were, etc. And since she knew lots of Muslims, including her parents, she was able to shed light on things I couldn't have known. See I'm just this white american chick who didn't really know any other Muslims, I was completely on my own. Sorry if that was waaay more info than you wanted. Thanks for reading it though.

                      Much peace,
                      lilyfleur

                        Peace to all,

Great story Lily, i recognize alot of what you mentally and spiritually went through with your discovery and conversion to True Islam, I too experienced many of the same feelings. I was raised a Roman Catholic and I was very devoted and sincere in my faith, but something inside kept leading me to keep searching for the truth, when I discovered Quran I too knew that this truely is the word of God, it has helped me in ways that are hard to explain but I truely believe and am thankful that God guided me to him and the Quran. I am also completely on my own as you are, in fact , I still have only met one muslim in my life at a local college . Im just your average american mixed mut male living way up norht in cold upper pen of michigan.

Hope to hear more from you Lily,

                        Kurt

God offers freedom of belief . It is for Him to punish people based on their belief.

                              Peace lily and Kurt,

I just wanted to express my appreciation for the courage and open-mindedness it requires to change religions. Moreover, not having many people to share and express with must be difficult. May God increase you both in knowledge in peace.

                                  Peace.

We search for the truth by reading. You seem to know what that particular truth is. The truth is clear, and the opposite isn't. Perhaps thats why there is ambiguity. The tears may or may not be real, but you are searching for truth, we are proud of people here to do that, it suits the purpose of the forum.

Don't think you don't know a truth and cry. Realise that you know you want to find the truth, ask the God for help, and then realise your strength if the God wills. I don't want to see that emoticon in any of your posts again, OK. D
