Asalamu Alaikum brothers and sisters in Islam,

    According to Submission.org

Azaan is not part of the Contact Prayers, nor is it required. But it has become a tradition in the Muslim communities to summon the people to prayer through a loud announcement. The original Azaan used to conform with the Quran's teachings, but became corrupted with time.

Originally, the call to prayer consisted of
    (1) Allahu Akbar (God is Great), 4 times.
    (2) Laa elaaha Ellaa Allah (There is no god beside God), once.

Many years later, some people added Muhammad's name to the Azaan. This violates God's commandments in 2136, 2285, 384, 4150 and 7218. Later, other groups of Muslims added the names of Ali and family. Today the Azaan is severely corrupted throughout the Muslim world, and constitutes idol worship, not Submission to God ALONE.

I am curious about this issue, do the Submitters have any proof regarding what they purport? (i.e. Their version of the real Adhan) This is not an attempt at mudslinging but an attempt at finding the truth so I expect no nasty, presumptuous or emotional replies, and no attacks against these people, I purely wish a submitter to answer this question.

    Many thanks...

i honestly can't comment on the 'submitters'.

what i do know is that the traditional call to prayer does use Muhammed's name to call on prayer, i personally feel this is incorrect the same way the traditional 'shahada' is as it does not conform to the strict monotheism of the Quran.

here is a link to an article on free-minds

      http//www.free-minds.org/articles/hadith/testimony.htm

i highly doubt people were calling on Muhammed's name for the azaan/call to prayer when he was alive.

so i doubt they should be doing it after his passing away.

        Yes, this is the argument.

But I wish to know from a 19'er where do they get their adhan from?

Come on, I know loadsa 19'ers use this forum, someone has to know, or is it just another stated 'fact' such as the obvious conclusion to 17 being the number of rakat? i.e. do I presume that this belief has no scriptural or historical grounding whatsoever?

          we're not 19ers here.

The site is for those exploring islam worshipping God alone using the Quran alone

as for 17 rakats, the 19ers use some kind of numeralogical manipulation and the 19 to rationalise the rakats.

as for the adhan, it's not that hard to deduce, orthodox adhan calls on God but also uses Muhammed's name too.

As the Quran states, salaat and all activities in the mosque as goes with the rest of our life are dedicated to God alone, so take the regular adhan and take muhammed's name out.

          there you have the adhan.

Quite frankly, that's not good enough, Hiya Ala Asalah and Hiya Ala Al-Falah could have been easily inserted just as Asalatu Khairan min an nawm.

Also, there are plenty of 19'ers who view and use this forum, because of that, I take it that there is no founding in their adhan and it has been made up.

Again, we could take the argument that any call so long as it goes by monotheistic rules is ok, but then they shouldn't pretend that it's the original one the community around Muhammad (saws) used.

what is an adhan other than a call to prayer and God?

The content is not as important as the principle lying behind it.

As long as it doens't feature association/shirk, then it shouldn't be a problem.

For all your labelling of others as '19ers' etc. What is your religious background?

              Just curious.

                I am a Muslim friend.

Not that it's right of me to label others as 19'ers I'm not the kind of person to accuse 'Shias' etc of not being Muslim, I used the terms 19'er to ask that audience a question. My beliefs as distinguised from others here are I believe in God, I believe the Qur'an is from God and that his words to us have been preserved I believe in the Prophets and Messengers Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Noah etc and I also take advantage of Hadith such as any reports for their historical importance, context and information.

                Salam

                      sorry for my ambiguity bro.

we may never know what the real adhan was during the time of our Prophet Muhammed. However, if we follow the guidlines of the Quran and make it a monotheistic one where there is no call to anyone other than God, then we will be as close to the adhan during Muhammed's time as we possibly can, at least in spirit and principle.

Salam Brothers Ironsky, Haroon and Alpha97 may this agreement and understanding be our first step toward progress, if we as a group agree and are firm on our basic beliefs and tenets then God willing we will go far.

May God guide us together united, as Muslims so that we can be clear on how to practise our faith and we can help reunite the shattered and confused ummah.
