Inter-faith marriages
-
Hey guys,
I'm currently reading a novel on an interfaith relationship and it got me thinking. What exactly is the deal with them? Are they allowed, and if so under what circumstances.
Is a muslim woman allowed to marry a non-muslim man and vice versa?
Peace, sun

I feel that its ok as long as both partners have the ability to consent to it. So I dont find anything wrong with inter-faith marriages.

Al Quran merely advise people to avoid inter-faith marriage in general. Its not because you will go to hell if you do that. But more because its hard to maintain a united spiritual family if the couple dont even belong to the same belief.
I mean my own father is a Muslim convert who changed his religion to marry my mother. So due to his limited knowledge of Islam our family is far from religious. For example we almost never pray together or stuff like that.
So if you are ready to take such a risk than go ahead and marry someone with different belief.

Interesting, I was under the impression that a woman marrying an unbeliever was "haram."
Well, there could be the fact that Im not muslim; so I wouldnt really know if its 'haram' or not. But it really shouldnt matter, if two people love each other enough on what authority can someone say its wrong?

GOD advised that you not to do it, but I do believe it's allowed just like it's allowed to have christians and jews and aitheist as friends as long as you don't follow their religious ideas GOD doesn't mind..I hope not

Muslim women and men can not marry idolaters. An idolater is the one who assigns partners to Allah, for example who worships idols, stars, fire or animals.
Allah says ?O you who believe! Do not marry idolaters unless they believe. 2221
It is forbidden for a Muslim woman to get married with an infidel (unbeliever) man. ?Nor shall you give your daughters in marriage to idolatrous men, unless they believe.

I've heard Sunnis say that women must marry Muslim men yet Muslim men can marry Jewish and Christian women. I haven't seen this in the Qu'ran as far as I can see but I could be wrong. However, isn't this unfair?

Actually, I heard that a large number of these women who fall in love with non-muslim males, do so because their fathers prevent them from marrying or even talking to muslim males or even teaching their daughters Islam/quran just "traditions of their elders" is what they learn.

The ayah you've quoted says idolatrious men not unbelievers in genereal.

Peace be unto you, brother,
I was 'fixed' after my only son. Children are a blessing, and the responsibility of raising them under God's guidance is a huge responsibility that should not be taken lightly. My son was conceived under deception; my girlfriend at the time took medicine to assist with fertility, then bedded me; I was not one to say 'no' to a beautiful woman giving me her charms. (Women have and always will be my kryptonite. I seek refuge in God from satan the deceiver!)
I found this out after our son was born. I made sure I would not be used as a donor for a woman's licenstious ways ever again.I did not want children because I knew the responsibilities of raising a child were not one I should be undertaking; I was irresponsible, self-centered, and living in sin. Yet God in His Infinite Wisdom saw fit to bless me with the best young man I could ever ask for! bravo In that I give thanks and praise to my Most Gracious and Loving God! He knew what I needed more than I did, for if it was not for the responsibility of raising my son, I would not have sought guidance from God, nor found the righteous path in the Quran. pr
Though we married and raised our son together for a short time, we were unequally yoked and divorced. Yet again, God knew what is best for all of us, and I am able to teach my son the path to God, while he receives lessons of humanism and carnal living from his mother. When he is an adult, he will make his own choice based off of what he has been taught by both of us. I pray God guides him as God guided me.
And as well, I am in a loving relationship that teaches my son what a marriage/partnership should be all about between man and woman Love, respect, equality, and committment to each other and most especially, to God.
Peace and blessings.
