Al Quran Encourages the Pursuit of Knowledge

An atheist person debates me that there was no such a thing as Islamic Civilization because Islam was not the driving force behind the so called Golden Age of Islam. So Im planning to reply that God encourages people to seek knowledge through Al Quran. However I do not remember many verses which support that idea. Therefore anyone please help me provide some relevant verses.
