    It's Phoenix1?

    That's no surprise...

Calling yourself by that name isn't clever, it's shirk...

just like calling myself Allah doesn't make me Allah.

Of course not, any decent muslim knows that, nevertheless this doesn't stop it from being shirk.

Now you can make a smug comment or some vague defense and I'm not going to stop you from calling yourself that name on the forum as I'm not responsible for that (I?m not able to do so anyway), however I'm not going to contribute to somewhere that allows this (it's my duty as a Muslim), either the moderators stop this or Phoenix1 changes his name to something that isn't blasphemous otherwise this is the last post I will be making on Free Minds. Enough is enough.

And if you or any other blasphemer has any smart comments or attacks I will rebuke them all on Free-Islam.com indefinitely or until this matter is settled.

        Salam Phoenix1~

I am sure you well know, that your point was a mistake. There are many other ways in which you could of made your point without using God's name. Now, if you used that specifically to also refute that Allah is not really God's name, just as you dismiss the purpose of calling oneself muslim, then i can see why you made that point as well, but still I can say, that the point is completely unneccessary and offensive to most all of us here, who glorify and revere god's names, especially those of us, whom call him Allah.

Please for the sake of forgiveness from your lord, and peace from us on this forum, remove Allahs name as your handle, and apologize to those of us you offended. It was foolish of you, but I will forgive you if you aplogize.

And take not God in jest for sake of your oaths and points, but if you pledge an oath by him, then fear him.

        Honor

            As-Salaamu Alaikum,

My understanding from another member here is that Phoenix1 is a 17 year old kid. I don't know if this is true or not, but can someone confirm whether or not they know this to be the case.

Assuming that he is, since that is the current information that I have now, I would tend to give him a little space to grow. I can remember when I was 17, and I would do almost anything to make a point. I DO NOT agree or condone what he as done in using Allah's name in vain, but Allah can still forgive him and guide him to the straight path, insha Allah.

When I responded to him the first time, I did not know that it was Phoenix1, nor did I know that he was 17 years old. Yes, he is an adult male at this point in his life. But regardless of what he thinks he knows, or actually does know, he is not a "man" yet. (assuming his age is true; although age is not everything to determine when one is a man)

Hopefully he will not take this as an insult, but instead as an opportunity to correct his behavior and show that he is growing into a man by admitting his mistake, insha Allah.

            As-Salaamu Alaikum peace

                Peace Someone,

There is a rule in the arabic language that differentiates between proper and common nouns
Common nouns can be used with the definite article "al" (chamsya or 9mariya for arabic speakers). "al" represents the definite article "the" in english. Furthermore, common nouns can be used in the plural form.
Like, as example, we can say "mounafi9" and "al mounafi9" and "al mounafi9ine", which is thus a common noun.
On the other hand, proper nouns do not accept neither "al" nor the plural form.
For example, "ibrahim" is a proper nouns because, at least in "al quran" if we judge by it, because there is no definite or a plural of "ibrahim".
Is there any exeptions to this rule in "al quran"?

The fact is that in all languages, proper names can be pretty much anything. It is the context that determines whether something is a common noun or a proper name.

Brother, you have to be careful because there are many false rules in Classical Arabic grammar. This is why Modern Arabic has done away with much of Classical Arabic largely useless grammar. So in terms of grammar, Modern Arabic is actually closer to the Arabic of the great reading. On the other hand, Classical Arabic is closer to the Arabic of the great reading in terms of vocabulary.

There is no such rule in the great reading. You can see Allat and Aluzza (both with the definite article) in Chapter 53 and yet they are proper names.

This is interesting because had Allat and Aluzza been common nouns (i.e., an actual true description the god is telling us about) then they would be translated as "the goddess" and "the strength". In this case, the god would be telling us about truly "the goddess" and "the strength". But of course they are not true because they are merely proper names. So in the great reading itself we hear the proper name Allat used to demonstrate the falsehood of proper names. By turning "allah" into a proper name Allah instead of the true "the god", people are rendering it as meaningless as the proper name Allat is in the great reading. I believe that this is the point that brother Phoenix was trying to demonstrate.

                Peace,

                Ayman

I am amused by how offended people are by this.

I think Ayman got me point, but kind of from a different angle.

I'm sorry. I'll change my name, if it really matters that much. But until I don't, I'm still Allah, and you do whatever I say, so please send me your credit card numbers via email (or go to hell).

Ahmad, can you please post that list?

And, Imam, if you bothered to look at my profile, you would know that I'm 895 years young. Oh, and I have nothing to "correct" in my behavior.

                  peace!

Bro, I think you got it wrong. You're not offending anyone. I believe the good folks here are just a bit worried about you and your treading the line of blasphemy. It aught to matter only to you. Plus about this

If I'm not mistaken, I believe a member that went under the name of A_O_K got banned for similare verbage.

                    peace bro... peace

If they were worried about me, they wouldn't leave the forum because of it, and they certainly would point out what you just did.
See, if people just say, "I get your point, whatever it is, but I don't like it so change it back," that's fine. And I'll change it.
But I honestly don't think I'm being blasphemous here. If I am, then you are too, since by calling yourself Muslim, you are suggesting that god favours you above others, regardless of your actions.

Maybe, but he was being serious. I miss his posts, though. Gave you something to laugh about.

Bro, I don't see how the two are the same. Calling oneself Muslim and then the calling oneself Allah are two completely different items! o There is only One Allah. pr

Also, I never laughed at A_O_K. nor did I even think of it being funny. I just remember seeing a post where he suggested a similar thing as you, then next thing I knew, I didn't see his posts anymore. See, I like you and I respect your honesty. Yes, there's one God, but that's how we view it. Someone else might not. What might be truth for you, might be blasphemy for someone else. I'd find it offensive if someone said "i'm going to heaven and you're not" just because of what they call themselves.

Also, I never laughed at A_O_K. nor did I even think of it being funny. I did laugh at AOK. I did try to resist. I'm sure he got banned for more than just saying weird stuff.
I haven't recieved any warnings so far, and I know that a small ban comes first. So I'll be sure not to push it too far, if I ever do (I don't think i have). Hopefully Noah'll be back.

It is hypocritical that the same people who got offended didn't raise an eyebrow when another member used the screen name "thegod" (lower case implying a true common noun). Since this is an English language forum, then this is in fact a blaspheme.

I didn't get offended because I know that even if he didn't capitalize and did translate it, it is in reality a meaningless screen name. So when I addressed him, I made up a nickname for him. But even if he had believed that he is really the common noun "the god" then he would have been a delusional person who one may feel sorry for, but still we should be grounded in reality enough to not be offended.

                              Peace,

I am one who was offended I stated that in my post on this thread, so it is very obvious you are including me as one of those you are calling a hipocrit. Let me just say, I have never seen the handle "thegod", so you cannot call me a hipocrit. Also, i disagree, this has nothing to do with me being grounded in reality or not. I am grounded, but I still think its wrong to mock Gods name. And that is one of the names I call God=Allah. The majority of the world in general stays away from naming their children after the monothestic God, One God. I think there is a reason for this. Most people are not comfortable naming or calling themselves God. But of course this is of my opinion. I am not asking you to agree with me, but please be careful calling me a hipocrit, for that I am not. Like I said, I never saw that person's handle.

                                  Salam Ayman,

I was not aware of a member named "thegod". I was more talking about the whole of it, and not just a member's name. As an example, this thread was started in regards to taking offense towards using the word Muslim, then it became taking offence at another's style, then it became taking offense at member's name. It doesn't stop. Hence, 'This entire thread is a momument for those fragil egos who continuously live offended lives!'

                                  Also, Sis Honor,

IMO, I really believe you don't need to justify anything here. You are a true example of what our deen needs more of today, "honor" - 1. honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions. bravo

                                  peace

                                      Peace Someone,

                                      Peace,

                                      Ayman

                                      Peace brother,

                                      The verses in question
                                      5319-20

I would consider "allat" and "al?zzaa" as plurals, the way they are spelled suggests this, I think. Furthermore, I am not aware of any good (archaeological..?) reason to consider them as singular proper names pointing some gods.

On the other hand, I think that these plural common nouns are descriptions of some of "the things" that people consider as "the goddesses" (for "allat&quotor "those put in the highest esteem" (for "al?zzaa&quot.

In verse 5322, these nouns are defined as descriptions ("asma'oun&quot attributed by people to some things, considering them as goddesses and taking them in high esteem, description that are far from the reality of these things.

This is but my understanding, please do comment.

                                        Peace,

You will find in the Quran al-husnaa, atoubaa, ataghwaa. Al-uzaa goes along with this form, meaning all things honorable and great. Allaatu can be seen as the verbal noun from th root laata. (lawata, layata). Al-Ukhraa is 'the last, end, the ends (as opposed to the means).'

                                        Anwar

Alukhraa means the other. Al-akhira means the last, end...And that's one of the reasons I understand these are names allat, aluzza and the other third, minat
