'Those who do not learn from histroy are doomed to repeated it'

'The only thing we learn from history is that we don't learn from histroy'

'Histroy is all about the rich exploiting the poor'

    So is history worth studying?

During my history lessons at school I was like this ignore

The only thing 'useful' I learnt was about propaganda and controlling the people, it kinda gives me an insight into British propaganda and the vilifying of Muslims.

It was only yesterday that I found out that robin hood never existed! o I told this to many people and they were shocked too o o. How many people (from the UK) knew he never actually existed? D Most people I know believe he did. ;D

Learning about Guy Falk's was interesting... but we hardly learnt any valuable lessons from it -\

We didn't learn about the British empire, Blair only recently decided to add it to the curriculum. (about time as well!)

What were your history lessons like?

was there any particular topic you enjoyed above all?

How many have you studied international history?

    who is your favorite historian?

    how 'reliable' is written history?

Wow, that is weird. I thought most people especially Brits knew that the Robin Hood tale was only a LEGEND just like Hercules and King Arthur. Anyway, speaking of British history I remember talking to a few young British people and I was kind of surprised that none of them even knew that the original name of England is Angle-land, the land of the Angles, a Germanic people.

in french they still call it angleterre

the angles of course are only one of the groups that settled the area known as england and the british isles.

picts, celts, angles, saxons, jutes, danes, romans, normans... on and on the list goes

"the british empire" is a pretty general topic, don't you think angel?

strange that they taught you that much but didn't teach you where the angle in angleterre or the engl in england came from

did they at least teach you the meaning of danegeld?

The Danegeld was an English tax raised to pay off Viking raiders (usually led by the Danish king) to save the land from being ravaged by the raiders.

And no I was not told that at school nope

Britain has the worst education system in the west according to unicef

governments are retarded... i don't bother voting, the way things have been going here in canada the past few years i will get another chance to vote every two years anyways.

our government caters too much to american interests anyways... for example, afghanistan... we should never have been there in the first place, and the americans blabbed some garbage about osama, and almost 6 years later we are still there... nobody ever caught osama... but they managed to carry out a regime change... pretty choked that my tax dollars go towards regime change in foreign countries... especially how things are in afghanistan... there is like a small area under "government" control and the rest is controlled by warlords anyways... so what's the point? if afghans want to change their government let them do it themselves.

but the cia is happy with afghanistan because opium production is back on course and nearing pre-taliban highs - and on the news here they try to claim that taliban forces are the ones in charge of the increased opium production... pretty funny, because during the days of mullah omar opium production was at all time lows.

                      ha

"war on common sense" assaults my senses

Britain's foreign policies are far worse.... I still have not got over Britains involvement in the Iraq war >(....

But even in this country they have messed things up big time. >(

Are you satisfied with your govs policies in your own contry?

no, they're really messing everything up... kyoto is going to be a big problem for us now because nobody had the gall to take care of it years ago... canada is a signatory to the agreement so it should have been put into place long ago... we should have been taking all that oil money and energy money and putting it into alternate energy sources years ago so that by now we would be ahead of the game... although some people seem to think that it will shut down the boom here in alberta... personally i doubt it... oil companies will find a way to keep profits flowing, they always do.

i'm not happy with the current government because they are the conservative party, which is really a bunch of old rich white dudes... i might be white but i sure ain't old or rich... they aren't really looking out for my best interests at all. then again, who is? ha
