Well, the word confuse is not in the Arabic text, the Arabic text is "Yalbisakum Shaia Wa Yoziq Baddakum Baas Baad"
for me it means, He will cause us to devide into sects then cause these sects to fight with each other so some should test the Baas of others

Brother Ahmed, as for I know Allah send his messengers and revelations to remove the divisions among the people they have created to fulfil their low desires.

And We have not revealed to you the Book except that you may make clear to them that about which they differ, and (as) a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.4214
And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them out of envy among themselves; and had not a word gone forth from your Lord till an appointed term, certainly judgment would have been given between them; and those who were made to inherit the Book after them are most surely in disquieting doubt concerning it.
And there are many Verses which clearly tells us not to divided like mushrikeen. Isn't it a contradiction?

Actually I retreat my last comment, yes the word Yalbas translated by Shakir is accurate as far as I believe, the Arabic word "Yalbas" means cause confusion, or at least "cause to not to know", so the verse says as follow" Aw Yalbasakum Shaia", i.e. "Cause to divide into sects without them knowing that they are on the wrong path

a contradiction to what exactly?
the first verse is telling us that Allah is Qadir "Able" to cause us to divide into sects, that does not mean He is playing with us rather we desrved to be cursed because we left his Quran and pondered upon the man made hadith that clearly caused the division from the ifrst place
verse 4214 can be a description to those Muslims who ignored the Quran and pondered upon the man made hadith that backfired and caused them to divide into sects, in reality though Allah caused them to be misguided because they desrved to be as such and Allah is going to make them tyaste the fighting with each other.

not seeing what you're seeing in that... anyways, i guess if you already believe in some ahadith you will of course find the verses to back up that belief... rather a backwards way to do it, use a book to prove your preconceived notions rather than read what the book says, but have at 'er anyways )
