I have questions regarding lewdness and their punishment for men and women.
415.And those who commit lewdness from among your women, you shall bring four witnesses over them from amongst you; if they bear witness, then you shall restrict them in the homes until death takes them, or God makes for them a way out.
Is the punishment mentioned above house arrest or life imprisonment? What does or God makes for them a way out mean?
416.And those who commit it from amongst your men, then you shall punish them. If they repent and amend, then leave them alone. God is Redeemer, Merciful.
What is the punishment of lewdness for men? They can repent and amend. How about women?

Let me resurrect this question from 3 years ago. Maybe we do not have experts back then. I would appreaciate if somebody could clarify this issue. I too am confused by 415 and 416

416 And the two men who commit it from amongst you, then you shall punish them. If they repent and amend, then leave them alone. God is Redeemer, Merciful.
These 2 verses are traditionally translated to refer to both lesbians (415) and gays (416).
Lets put them both into list form
Lesbian
- Needs 4 witnesses to testify against them.
- Punishment Be restricted in their own homes until their death.
- If they can find a way out (somehow) then leave them alone.(?)
Gays
- Do not need any witnesses to testify against them.
- Punishment Not specified
- If they repent and correct their ways, then leave them alone.
Anyone reading this the first time will say that the methods and punishment is not fair between gays and lesbians. Why are lesbians imprisoned till death but for gays, God doesn't even mention the punishment for them? Why do gays get the chance to repent and be left alone if they correct their ways, while lesbians are not given the same chance, they are just imprisoned? Probably some will say that this "unfairness" is compensated by the lesbians needing 4 witnesses first before they can be punished, but gays can be accused without witnesses.
I really want to understand this law that God has sent down. But I can't seem to understand it. Anyone care to clarify?

Do you not realise that the 4 witness rule applies to both? Why would you repeat yourself when you can say it once for 2 things? Same punishment, same everything.
Life imprisonment in their homes, pretty clear on that. "Until God makes for them a way out" is quite simple - until something happens. I wonder if escape counts as "God makes for them a way out"...

Comparing 415 and 416
Until God makes for them a way out = until they repent and amend.
If a person repents and amends from a sin it is just like God made a way out for that person.
