Can Allah create a rock so heavy that even he couldn't lift it?

(If you have a panthiestic view of Allah then ignore my question)

        Allah create a rock=Creator, yes

so heavy=Means God must first take on a form and stand on aplanet with gravity, as weigth is the attraction between two masses. But since God is everywhere according to the Quran and logic, then this is an unworkable paradox. Because the energy of gravity, the energy of the molecules that mades the rock and planet all is made out of His Energy.

couldn't lift it=refers to muscles, muscles are created through evolutionaire moulding through circumstances. The muscles are depended on the body-mass.

Already some paradoxes are created in the paradox itself.

        Ok, new approach.

The paradox already assumes God create endlessly.

Rock so big= God will choose the size. As He has no muscles, as these are formed through biological laws.

He can't lift it=This can only be a decision. It cannot be because He has not the power to do it. He decides then that He can't lift it.

The paradox in the paradox is That God cannot be All-Powerful, as He cannot be LESS powerful.

That God is All-poweful makes Him not All-Powerful as He cannot be less then ALL-powerful.

Thus the paradox already admits God to be All-poweful and that He cannot be anything less then All-Powerful.

See how the paradox collapses on its own argument?

          peace Angel, all,

I will assume you are asking out of sincerity to find answers so I shall add my own thoughts

When I first started out studying religion, philosophy and islam I did come across these types of questions. I soon realised that often the questions were constructed in such a way as to create impossible situations, commonly known as a paradox (as has been pointed out already).

Re rock so heavy God cannot lift it question

God is The Almighty (i.e. infinite power), thus God could create an infinite rock mass. However the act of lifting could never take place because an infinite rock mass would occupy ALL space. If you disagree, please enlighten us as to how an act such as lifting could possibly take place with an infinite rock mass. Thus, when thought about, the question is realised to be a paradox that cannot be answered, not because God is limited but because the questions is illogical/contradictory.

Re draw a square circle question

The above is a very good example of a clear paradox (the rock one is a little more difficult to pick out its illogical/contradictory status... I assume that is why it is used).

These types of questions are core questions that I recommend getting one's head round before continuing in their journey but my advice would be to not only concentrate on finding the answer but also consider the question/proposition in the 1st place.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Not if this rock mass is 0 dimensional

All paradoxes generally arise/result in an error in human thinking.

Infinite rock mass is not necessary, God can make "impossible to lift" thing with even this size -----> http//www.smileyhut.com/square_ok/4.gif

Thus stupidity of such questions is above board....

No, questions can be stupid as well.

The word you are looking for is "significant" - no question is insignificant.

I've always liked the saying "do not judge a person by their answer but by their questions".

Anyways, OPF, I am not familiar with 0 dimension but I assume it would be impossible to gauge any kind of lifting in such a dimension, thus my point still stands.

                      No, you can "lift".

I mean, the universe was thought to have been 0 dimensional at the start of time as we know it. But quite clearly, that's a heavy rock, and God "lifted" it yay

Allah must be limited, if she can't do those 'paradoxical' things then she is not all-powerful, and she obviously is limited. Coz if she could do those things then she would be 'unlimited'.

Why do you give God a gender?
"He" that refers to God is generic, not gender

yea i know god does not have a gender.

But people always refer to God as a "he" so I thought I would use "she" instead.

And "he" is misleading, I know so many muslims that believe god is a guy.

For young people, these tricky paradoxes can be very confusing. And mocking someone is never the Muslim way.

Why are you calling The God, she?
The God is not male nor female.

The God is in control of everything therefore The God decides what will be a paradox and what will be logical, right? So, since God is in control of everything, God will decide if paradox shall even exist and in this case paradox exists.

God can create everything, including a rock of any size but The God will always, ALWAYS be above it, bigger then it, because everything has a limit except God.
God has no limits and therefore can be here and there at the same time.

                                  The God knows best.

                                  Peace.

Can Allah create a rock so heavy that even he couldn't lift it?

(If you have a panthiestic view of Allah then ignore my question)

In Arizona we have the "Could god make a burrito so hot that he couldn't eat it?" joke. I actually wondered about the paradox, and I was baffled. So I came to the conclusion that God would have cooled it down to the perfect eating temperature before eaing it.
