Quran and Atheism
-
On a different thread, enquirer had said...
i went from sunni to quran only literalist to quran only re-interpretor to quran only mystic and finally to humanist/atheist/agnost......I found that questioning if a single all-powerful god really exists helped me to go beyond the quran.....In fact i still retained belief in the quran after i rejected monotheism.....I just viewed the verses one one god as meaning something else like the unity/interdependence of all things......However,finally i realised i was just re-interpreting/re-inventing the quran to be more humanistic, plausible and relevant to the world, and i figured this to be intellectually incorrect....If the quran is a criterion it should match to real world reality and be relevant in all walks of life without me interpreting it subjectively.......The main problem on the forum is the quran is all things to all people,i as an atheist could show the book encouraged atheism just by re-interpretation,selective interpretation and cross-referencing.....Even if one claims its principal message is montheism, well if you question god and find he is unlikely to exist, then that by default disproves the book.....
Respect and peace....i as an atheist could show the book encouraged atheism just by re-interpretation,selective interpretation and cross-referencing.....
If you don't mind, open a thread and let's put that theory to the test.peace

I will show you a brief summary here zenje, and if i have time i will open a new thread.
All i have to do is show that 'idols' are all man made representations of entities that are claimed to have certain powers (but which in reality they dont possess.) ,such as zeus controlling say the wind, jesus being the creator of everything or osiris controlling the sun...Then we know that the quran prohibits idol-worship and construes it as the highest sin....
Further the quran names allah as the source of all power, life and will....
So far i think all will agree, and i have kept in line with quranic concepts...
The quran states that allah is one and with no partner repeatedly, all one has to do is show that this word allah is referring to 'nature' ,or all life as one interdependant whole, or as energy/power being a unified entity to show that the quran is calling to serve/be mindful/follow the rules of this entity, which is everything....Seeing as the quran continually asks one to observe the signs in reality/nature it is essentialy asking one to verify ones view of the real power of the universe which is not allah as just another single idol entity that man has invented, but in fact allah is another word for nature which is too vast to encompass totally,or understand fully, but can be verified in part and proved by the mere existance of life and observable laws, which are a part of nature......In this way the quran is calling to reject all concepts of unprovable single or multiple gods (atheism.),and instead embrace metaphysical naturalism as the single interdependent governing force of the universe, but not as a 'god' but as an interdependent unified set of forces,of which no one force can claim to control all of the others ..As claiming one force of the 'unity' is all-powerful amounts to creating an idol....
Happy Digestion..... ! peace handshake -
Peace to all,
Enquirer, sorry but your close, God is not just a metaphysical concept embued in nature, you want Godism without God, this is the new age philosophy in a nutshell, god is everywhere and in everything , god is not real but the manifestation of logical power running through everything is, its energy without the source of it, its the worship of creation without the creator,,, sorry enquirer but i too have struggled with these thoughts and have realized, there is A God,, a personal , jeolous , loving and caring God, we must submit to God and not his work, the life of this world is nothing but the temporary enjoyment of delusion,, only God is real. Just like the sun, you cant look directly at it but without it you cant look at anything else.

Kurt, you can look at the sun directly for a while (not recommended.) and also we can take photos from space which show the sun from various angles.....
I dont follow any 'new age' philosophy,or 'feel good theories',i just try to go with what is closest to reality.....If i knew god existed as you say he does i would 'serve' him.....But i dont see the evidence for him, only folks trying to do a 'pascals wager' to save their skin from a 'theoretical/unproved' doom,or folks brainwashed into being unable to view the alleged concept of god/scripture with any objectivity.....
I will say this, everybody acknowledges and can verify the existance and power of nature, nobody can verify god,and neither are there any strong direct evidences for his existance......Go figure..... -
I believe that nature (reality) plays a vital role in our entire realm in every phase of life, be it a thing or a creature. Even human dead bodies are decomposed and reinforced back into a life form. Just reflect on all the live animals, vegetables, fruits, air, sun, minerals, chemicals, water, pharmaceuticals, etc., that we humans consume that gets recycled in one form or another. Have you ever thought of what exactly happens to our dead bodies when burried in the soil or what happens to all those trees and plants that have shed their leaves, flowers and fruits? Where do they go and how are they transformed or integrated into another form? Is everything that exists interlinked in one way or the other? Where did it begin and does it ever end, how and why?
I believe that many questions can never be proved by science for science itself changes its course from time to time. Can science prove wisdom or intellect? I still believe, at least in part, that there must be a higher form, the One and Only, that controls the entire realm that exists throughout our universe, which neither science nor philosophy can justly explain.

Also, if you turn the world map around it spells Allah.

enquirer,
Interesting views!
I'm sorry if I sound slow, but I'd love to understand your thinking more, to compare with my own thinking, and get something positive out of it. So if you could answer these questions just very briefly I'd be grateful

Do you believe in an existing, self-aware, intelligent entity, other than any individual members of the five(seven?) kingdoms of living things?
-
Have you read the "conversations with God"? What's your brief remark about this piece of text (if you've read it)?
