2 very very distant relatives of mine (who I haven't even met) have suffered Near Death Experiences, and both experiences were very similar. Though its interesting that NDE's in the west that happen in hospitals that you hear about seem to share the same sort of detail, but the ones I heard of were people on their deathbed at home (overseas in Indonesia) but also shared the same sort of detail. If your interested, I'll tell you what they saw.

I had a near death experience, when I was 13. I had been very sick with the flu, and my mom had gotten me a heating pad to sleep on, I could not stop being cold. Anyhow, I remember falling asleep..I could hear the wind kinda of whistling outside the window...the the next thing I know....
I see bright red/orange light, so bright that I thought a flashlight was in my face, I tried to see through the light and when I finally coud make out an image I realized it was me..I was looking at me down below cradled in a weird fetal position in my bed, I was looking from above hovering somewhere near the ceiling, and when I looked at me, I began to get confused...
I started to feel pain, lots of pain..and I saw my body start to make seizures and convulsions...
I remember then being back in my body...feeling the uncontrollable torsion of my body writhing and flexing...I remember thinking...I am dead..oh dear god...I am dead...
And very quietly as if no sound exsisted I heard my thoughts like it was a voice loud...praying..
"Dear god...I am afraid..I don't want to leave my mom now..I am scared to go..please...don't let me go..."
Then I was up again looking down at my body in bed...and I thought I need to get my body off the bed, so it will make some noise and my family will hear it and help me...
I was down in my body again, and another seizure hit me...it was so strong that I fell off the bed...and I wanted to call out my mothers name...
But when I tried to speak there was no sound...and I did not know how to form words..
i kept trying and finally started moaning loudly....mmmmmmooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooooooooooooooooooooom....moooom...mom!!
My mother came into the room and found me on the floor, I was too weak to walk, all the lights were out she could not get them to turn on. She turned on a hallway light and went to lift me from the floor, and noticed smoking rising from my bed.
The heating pad, was melting and smoking...she went to it, and as she went to unplug it..noticed that it was burned and smoking from the power outlet.
I had been electrocuted. She took me to the ER and the Dr.'s found blood on my brain from the elctrocution,and I was given blood thinners. I was treated for electrocution and sent home.
I will never forget that experience. I will never forget...knowing god was right there listening to me, and how he allowed me to stay and did not take my soul.
Praise be to Allah, most merciful.
There is light, and there is fear, and there is yourself, in form, being viewed by yourself...it is most extraordinary and scary..

Mashallah Honor, your story is interesting and im sorry you had to go through that.
Now that I think about it the stories of my 2 relatives were more of a momentary death experience (not near death). According to ppls that were there first hand , they were actually washed for burial because their heart had stopped, hence clinically dead for a long time.
The female relative had began to see herself in a farm field , in between absolutely GIANT fruits and vegetables. She said she saw carrots the most. She started running and running until the fruits and vegetables got bigger and bigger and she just felt like she was in a most amazing place. She said when she got to the end until she could see something more beautiful (she says she couldnt POSSIBLY describe it, and you had to be there to get it) she awoke. No one could beleive what happened.
The male relative saw himself on a giant field of green grass, and saw an enormous fortress decorated with light. He decided to approach it and inside were people full of noor. He then awoke.
