Sister's Honor question in another thread prompted me to make this announcement here. This is just to announce that "scorching full-moon" ("shahr ramadan" is today. Accordingly, I am posting her question and my answer here.
Can someone maybe take Tanveers, and maybe another opposing persons view and maked it into a bulleted summary so I can read it like a 10 year old could?!
If we ask a 10 year old what the term "scorching full-moon" evokes, he or she will naturally say that it evokes the meaning of the full moon, heat and reddish color.
The hottest time of the year occurs after the summer solstice. This is true independent of what humans decide to do or not do with their calendars.
When the sun is at its highest point, the moon is at its lowest point. So the moon close to the summer solstice will be the lowest moon of the year. When the moon is low it takes a reddish color and it seems larger to observers. This is true independent of what humans decide to do or not do with their calendars.
So no matter what humans do or not do, the "scorching full-moon" (the full moon that is reddish and occurs during the hottest time of the year) will always be the first full moon after the summer solstice. Everywhere in the northern hemisphere, this full-moon occurred tonight. So fasting starts on the dawn of July 1, 2007 (tomorrow).

I am 100% convinced that Ramadan must come in the heat of summer, and that "Shahr" means "anouncement", and that the full moon of the scorching summer heralds or annouces the time of fasting.
However, I am still not convinced that it's 10 days. Why not 7 days??
Why not 15 days (until the next half moon)?Why does "ayyam maadoudat" necessarily mean 10 days?

Do not throw baseless accusations around. Just because I refuse to adhere to the Sunni or Shia Satanic inspired religions is no reason to speak ill of people who try to adhere to the Quran Alone.
The only true unity is one that revolves around the teachings of God and His messenger as outlined in the Quran...Not one that revolves around the sects and their innovations.

I am not throwing baseless accusations, they have a very strong base and that is your posts and your thoughts reflected in them.
Your all posts, articles that i have read are aimed at disuniting Muslims, infact the knowldge you pocess and your command of english language should have lead you to unite them and that is the need of the TIME, what you are doing; almost every Mullah, Imam, Maulvi, Khalifa etc. is doing making their own interpertation of Quran, no matter how much they have to deviate from the original MESSAGE.For example

So what about those in Southren hemisphere?
Meaning to say that People living in South America and People living in India have to Fast in different Months?
Meaning to say that people living in some parts of Indonesia have to fast differently?
Meaning to say people living in Florida have to fast differently from that living in Melbourne, Australia.Regarding Fasting being in Summer I would like to quote some of the following Rawayaa's
Most Islamic scholars quote that "Fateh Mecca" was in Ramadan 8 Hijrah, and when Muslim forces left Madina they were fasting, Prophet was also fasting, Heat was at its maximum, and Harira quotes Prophet throwing water on his head, to avoid Humidity.
But when we analayze the date given with the calendars we use Ramadan on 8 Hijrah would have been in December or January.
So either the Rawaya is wrong or the date is wrong?
Al-Bairooni a mathematician and Islamic scholar quotes that Ramadan can occur in Hot season.
And analysing further different Rawaya's one comes to the conclusion that Sayaam at the time of prophet always ocurred in Summer
another Rawaya tells us
Prophet like to Iftar with "Ratb" dates
and we know that these kind of dates are only available in June, JulyThere are many others which point towards Fasting in Hot months.
Therefore I agree with you up to this point, that Ramadan was Mostly in Hot months.

I would like to ask a question to Dr.ayman? What was the Calendar in use at Northren arabia when these verses were revealed??
The count of the months with God is twelve months in God's record the day He created the heavens and the earth; four of them are restricted. This is the correct system; so do not wrong yourselves in them; and fight those who set-up partners collectively as they fight you collectively. And know that God is with the righteous.
The month of scorching heat, in which the Quran was sent down as a guide and clarification of the guidance and the criterion. Whoever witnesses the month, then let him fast during it. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and you shall complete the count, and glorify God for what He Has guided you, that you may be thankful.
Now note the words "Whoever witnesses the month". Which month? the month of Scorching heat? it could be June, July,or August so who will decide? But it is singular I guess "witnesses the Month" so it must be singular month and it does not say "Whereever you witness the month of scroching heat"?
Now if we are using the calendar de gregorian, definitely the Ramadan will follow in Summer or in Winter. And if use Ramadan as a MONTh's name in Islamic calendar and knowing that Ramadan is either in June or July in Arabia, we will have a common month for Northern Hemisphere, al the times this solves it for Northren Hemisphere
but then what about those in Southren hemisphere?When we fast here in India they will be not fasting in Peru. Did Allah forget about it?
Therfore what I think is that Ramadan is actualy a word used for Arabians it does mean month of scrooching heat, and it is evident that Muslims of Arab had their fast during summers, but when it comes to all the world "IJTEHAD" is needed so we can have a Common month for fasting.We will discuss it in detail as I will be leaving for my summer vacations.

Why do we need a common month for fasting, Raj-ah?
I don't really follow. Is fasting a personal act - or a communal act? Likewise, why do people in different climates have to be living the exact same way? Perhaps God ordained it like this to suit each person in their respective climate, did you think of that?

To use classical Arabic dictionaries as secondary Qur?an of sorts is not always the best as to proper meaning of terms/names used; for example?

Good point on the 12 month calendar verse above and have nice vacation; sun arrived back from mine in Mexico and only had to explain once why we didn?t eat pork?lol Very nice people although still awaiting their messenger.

At present i am not in a position to comment on brother Ayman's interpretation of Ramadan , because i have not done my homework on the issue, however i would like to comment on one of his statements which he has made in another thread and i quote

AymanI used to finish my fast at sunset , but last year i did some study on the issue and would like to make the following statement,
" Layl is night , so we should not start eating at sun set , but at the start of the night , i mean when it is some what darker".

As far as I know, RamaDhan has been mentioned in the quran only one time (2185). Based on my studying of that particular verse and going by The Quran Alone, I cannot see Where fasting/abstinence is even mentioned in the verse. FalyaSsumhu does NOT Literally mean "Then he should fast/abstain in it".

But the Arabic word FalyaSsumhu isn't plural. It is male singular, hence it isn't necessarily a communal command.
By the way, sister Samia pointed out the misunderstanding I originally had of this word (falyaSsumhu) in another thread.
