    peace

what's the meaning of this sura

1111 Condemned is the hand of Abu-Lahab; condemned indeed.
1112 His money will not avail him, nor what he has earned.
1113 He will be sent to a flaming Fire.
1114 And his wife who carries the logs.
1115 On her neck will be a rope of thorns.

doesn't say who he was, what he did...
so why condemned is he? how do we know?
why would God reveal this sura? why so little information? what can we learn from it?
some say we need hadith to understand this one.

"Lam-ha-Ba = To blaze fiercely/intensely, inflame, burn with anger, Ardour of fire, flame, fiery tempered person, abu lahab - father of flame.
      A gap/space between two mountains, a cleft/fissure in a mountain."

      Father of flame.

I recommend the search function of the forum.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

            Peace

I think it is a lesson for us to heed. The quran provides pointers for us and shows us how to keep our pace on the "straight and narrow". This topic has been discussed before and you'll find plenty of info if you heed Wakas' advice. Abu Lahab is the personality you should not emulate.
