So, basically, I am inclined to believe that this idea of Muslims Sisters being forbidden from marrying non-Muslims is nothing but a piece of male chauvinism masquerading as religion.

    Sister Francesca

    peace sister

Though, there are plenty of such cases (male chauvinism masquerading as religion) but on this one,,, I am afraid , i shall have to agree with tradionlist understanding, which is, that a Muslimah cannot marry a Non muslim.

I dont think there is any confusion on this, because that is what Quran says.

In my opinion sisterfrancesca, marrige is a decralation of love witnessed by God. No one can tell you who/not to love, so no one can tell you wether or not you can marry someone.

I am sorry brother , i fail to grasp what you are trying to put forward, do you mean that even God can't forbid that ???

    peace

Believers are advised to wed a chaste woman among believers, if one is unable to find one, it is still recommended that a young/maiden MMA among believers is to be prefered,

4-25 If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess ,,,,,

Muslim men allowed to wed the chaste woman among the followers of the previous scriptures, look at the verse, the food is allowed both ways , but, this is not the case with MOhsinnats of believers..

5-5 Today, all good food is made lawful for you. The food of the people of the scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. Also, you may marry the chaste women among the believers, as well as the chaste women among the followers of previous scripture, provided you pay them their due dowries. You shall maintain chastity, not committing adultery, nor taking secret lovers. Anyone who rejects faith, all his work will be in vain, and in the Hereafter he will be with the losers.

God has given us free will, the freedom to love, im saying that God wouldn't. I feel that over the millions of years of existance God created a personal law, which has been unbroken since its creation. The free will of his creations is one of the highest. Basicly God will always permit true love, because if God didn't, it would contrast his own personal morals.

But brother, "The creator" of this free will has advised us to exercise this option staying within the bounds of Devinne will..

We are not discussing true love here. The subject is a permanent liaison of two individuals/families and raising the next generation.

;D Have you ever come across a term "Forbidden love" ?

No, love could never be forbidden, only lust can be.

Off course one cannot forbid/have a control over Love , but when this luv wants to transcend into a bond (in which getting physical is a must) some could then be categorised as "Forbidden"

                  Peace,

The marriage Laws in the Quran are there to protect the male, female and children. This is why a Muslim marrying non-Muslim women is allowed, as the Quran laws are the best laws that can be upheld by a husband.

But a non-Muslim man does not uphold the Quranic rules for marriage, and thus the female is not protected by the Quranic Law. Which is why she is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man.

Every sort of love starts out true but can always run out. Then there are the Quranic Laws that kick in and protect both sides their rights during the divorce. Most of these Laws protect the woman, and thus is why it is important she marries a man who uphold these Laws.

Secterian Muslims do not uphold these Laws as they follow the Fiqh of their sect which mostly contradicts the Quran. And thus these are also not allowed to marry untill they agree to uphold the Quranic Laws.

This is why God is called Ghafoor-a-Raheem, the One who provides Protection by guiding us through the Quranic Laws.

God is not an emotional personal Divinity. Moral is a human perspective on what works for a society and what not. God has no moral, He has laid down a System that follows His Laws in the Universe, anything contradicting these Laws will eventualy fail.

                      Peace all

I'll be honest about this, I feel a little bothered by such a rule. Allah knows full well how I feel but perhaps voicing my opinion on here will bring me understanding if anyone can explain, God willing. Already it is said that the population of muslim females is much greater than that of muslim males, and traditionalists use this an excuse for polygamy. They say it is to protect the 'surplus' of women that cannot find husbands. Ok, not everyone here agrees with that (i.e. some here believe polygamy is only allowed when protecting the orphans), however this does mean that not all muslim women will be able to find a husband (and not share him). Allah being All-knowing obviously knew of this, but on top of that He allowed muslim men to marry women from the people of the book. This means that this increases the number of muslim women that cannot find a husband, if the men are marrying christian and jewish women. Apart from using polygamy as a solution therefore (I personally support the view that it is exclusively for protecting orphans and not for this 'surplus' reason or for men's sexual desires) many more muslim women won't have a husband because of this law ???

Can anyone kindly provide a good argument or anything to help me understand?

                        Salaam Francesca,

This understanding comes from taken the whole Quranic Message together. Take all verses on Marriage and Divorce and you can see how they are focussed on protecting both sides interests.

The Bible does not contain these Laws, and the laws they do contain are very harsh and illogical in many ways. Very tribal. A Christian now-a-days will uphold the secular laws of the country, and although these do sometimes come close to the Quranic Laws, they do still are far from it.

When you marry a non-Muslim, it directly means you let your marriage rights fall directly out of the Divine Protection as given in the Quranic Laws. Although you can have a perfect life, you must understand that when it does go wrong, the Divine Laws are not there to protect you and your rights. You are then subject to secular laws that are faulty in many ways.

                          Salaam Twilight,

Your question is indeed valid. But you forget many factors. For one, 80% of all Muslims are so bound to their sects they will not marry outside of it. Due to secterian issues, the problem is even greater as many women are not even allowed to marry outside of their tribe, family or sect.

What you refer too now is I believe a future problem, or better, a future question. First all Muslims must unite and all follow the Quran completely and not their man-made Fiqh's and rulings.

Then you will have a united Ummah with no secterian and tribal issues with a majority female population. Then your question does arise. If countries are formed that completely follow the Quranic Laws, and thus that the WHOLE population must follow these rules for marriage and divorce, just as in secular countries as America or Netherlands inforce their Marriage laws on their inhabitants.

Then something interresting arises, as then the women are protected by these Laws. Their marriage and divorce fall under Divine protection as they are controlled by Divine laws. And so it doesn't matter if you marry Christians or Jewish men, they all must follow the Quranic Laws.

Then by my understanding it thus doesn't matter if they are Christian, as everything is protected by Divine Law. The only rule then remains is that the husband must be completely monotheistic.

Peace Arnold. Thank you for answering my question thoughtfully.

I appreciate what you are saying and I understand. However, although what you are saying is logical, the Quran does not support such a notion does it? What I mean is, it does not say that if such a society is formed whereby the Quranic Laws are enforced, it does not matter if you marry Jewish or Christian men as long as they are strictly monotheistic. It does not provide such a condition, am I right? Therefore, no matter which laws a society upholds, Quranic, hadithic, secular, etc, a muslim woman can only marry a muslim man. You rightly note that many women are not even allowed to marry outside their tribe, family or sect, however often you hear of traditionalists (mostly sunni men) marrying Christian women. Society simply accepts it more readily when a man does it. So I come back to my original problem. If men today (and I mean today, as you state this is more of a question for the future), are marrying non-muslim women, there are going to be women who find themselves unable to find a spouse (unless they accept polygamy, but who wants to share their partner?).

I can't get my head around why Allah would allow muslim women to suffer like that confused

                              Peace,

You are completely focussing on the wrong thing. Muslim men are misusing a rule which is given as it can be necessary in certain situations. Muslim men should acknowledge the problem of the majority being female, and thus should marry Muslim women.

That they marry non-Muslim women is wrong, as they should focus on the problem-solving matters in their own society first. Thus it has nothing to do with God allowing something, it has to do with the neglectance of the Muslim men in modern society.

First allow me to correct your translation
"...and your food is lawful for them and the (mu7sanaat) among the believers and the (mu7sanaat) among the followers of the previous scripture...."

The reason for this literal correction is to ask you What makes the address change (from addressing both genders) to addressing (the male gender only) after the bolded "and" ?

Aparently 30 million more men then women according to http//www.socyberty.com/Issues/The-imbalance-of-the-male-to-female-ratio.8138.

Hmm, interesting. However, I dont think 30 million is that much of a gap compared to the total population of the world.

Is this a book? If so, where could I find it?

Lol, the Great Reading is referring to Al Quran.
