religion and reward..

Peace,
I think you're referring to verse 2261
The example of those who spend their monies in the cause of GOD is that of a grain that produces seven spikes, with a hundred grains in each spike. GOD multiplies this manifold for whomever He wills. GOD is Bounteous, Knower.Or isn't that the one you were searching for?? The above happens to be one of my favourites. bravo
-
But if that's the only reason you do good things...
If god says "there will be no punishment or reward" then most people wouldn't bother. Does that make them good? or are they just acting like that to get something in return?
Truly good people would do the right thing because it's the right thing, not because they'll get into heaven. -
something Einstein said relating to religion and reward...
"If people are good only because
they fear punishment, and hope for
reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed."-- Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein may be a smart man, but he does not have godly wisdom.
As for me, I think 6110-115 is good.
Does this mean that the Quran decrees open-source for us? p
-
How is 6110-115 related to reward and punishment? or are you trying to show me that we can only trust god for wisdom?
Einstein certainly was fallible, like everyone else. And I didn't really like his "one world government" idea. But here he makes a good point.
People doing good to get into heaven reminds me of high school kids spending hours volunteering in their community, helping people, just to get into a good college. None of them really cares about it, but they do it to achieve an end.peace

Totally logical, practical and natural. It is the wrongdoers, the worrisome and the weak-minded who fear.If god says "there will be no punishment or reward" then most people wouldn't bother. Does that make them good? or are they just acting like that to get something in return?
The punishment or reward is HERE and NOW in ALL practicality. -

When we're on the topic of "favourite verses", those are my "favourites".

The punishment or reward is HERE and NOW in ALL practicality. And in other news, the Fluffy Bunny Fairytale Government has decided to end all war, poverty and corruption because "it's the right thing" and "weak minded people do otherwise".
In fact, this inherent logic is so practical that Israell continues to punish Palestinians for non-existant crimes, after all, the "punishment or reward is HERE and NOW".

Just because you don't care does not mean that others do not either. There are many "high school kids spending hours volunteering" who know what it's like to be on the wrong end of the stick, and assuredly, they care.
Fear is a very natural thing. You don't jump off a cliff out of fear because you know you will experience pain - which you fear. Likewise, fear of retribution acts as a relativly good benchmark. Not an ideal benchmark, definitely.

Yep, you got it....the HERE and NOW.You don't jump off a cliff out of fear because you know you will experience pain - which you fear.
No, one jumps off of a cliff out of frustration or helpnessness to commit suicide or in the hope of survival. Surely, there may be feelings of fear but certainly not out of pity to reach heaven intentionally.Likewise, fear of retribution acts as a relativly good benchmark.
Yeah, I'm sure, in the case of your convoluted and subjective example of Israeli/Palestine conflict where both are supposedly "believers" and they fight each other because of some heavenly retribution in the hereafter. Perhaps they may be fighting for top notch martydom in competition to quickly get to heaven where rivers of un-alcoholic wines flow and of course the virgins. rotfl -
No, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict shows two groups little influenced by religion who are doing harm and guess what, there is no "HERE AND NOW" punishment for them.
Perhaps they may be fighting for top notch martydom in competition to quickly get to heaven where rivers of un-alcoholic wines flow and of course the virgins.
Perhaps you should follow the Quran's advice and lay off the crack.

WTF?? what does your fluffly bunny fairytale government have to do with this?
The "punishment" is not physical, as I see it.Just because you don't care does not mean that others do not either. There are many "high school kids spending hours volunteering" who know what it's like to be on the wrong end of the stick, and assuredly, they care.
um, I didn't say there weren't any who cared, I said there are kids who don't and still do it. wow.

True, fear can help you do the right thing, but I think that if something is done out of fear, you don't get that "reward." Instead of being at peace and happy, you are fearful. You are suffering mentally because you are living in fear. Fear is natural, but so are anger and jealousy, and neither of them are good for us.
There's a difference between doing the right thing out of fear or desire, and doing the right thing for the sake of it.
