You will understand the statement in the Book of Exodus, "I am that I am', if you can answer this question.
This is the type of question which seems offensive to those who are within a Semitic religion, it stops people in their tracks, they can neither go forward or backwards, neither answer yes or no. If they answer yes God could, they come out with a Greek equivalent of Apollo lifting a big mass, if they say no God could not they are afraid of becoming atheist, if they answer I don't know they are afraid of becoming ignorant.
But there is a way around it, if we respond by asking a certain question we will God willing be guided towards the truth. If we ask what is it about the rock that will make it unbearable. So we can say is it its size, its weight or the pressure.
We find size is fluid, weight is solid and pressure is gaseous.
This then links with the age old concept of mind, body and soul.
Then to answer the question whether God could, the size is equated to limitless, the weight is equated to infinite and pressure is said to be free.
Just as hearing links with the chaos of the mind, sight links with the causality of the body, and speech links with the will of the soul.
So this may be the understanding of what it means in the Book of Genesis that god created man from His own image. Everything in our bodies, our backbones, our legs, our hands and feet, our brains, our eyes, ears, and heart, every little thing may be the manifestation of God's image.
The three attributes of God, the Omniscient, the knower, the Omnipotent, the Most Powerful, and the Omipresent, the Most Wise. Link with the concept of mind body and soul. which link with the three sciences, chemistry, physics and biology. The three arts, music, art, and writing, and the three classics philosophy, linguistics and history.

No. Because God's omnipotence will lock him in an infinite spiral of creating and still carrying. It is like clashing two infinities together, no one will win.
But to create a rock bigger or smaller, would require knowledge which links with the Omniscience of God, so size would have to be fluid unless you are working in frames, whereas weight is yes infinite, but by your definition no one would win, but what if weight was nothing instead something, because like floating on water, the more you fight it you will sink but less resistance you give you will float, why? Some people can swim 60 laps at the age of 70 (Allen Carr) whereas a 24 year old could not swim half a lap (me).
Knowledge of the future
Power of the now
Wisdom of the pastTo say no God could not, is to say the rock is more powerful than the Omnipotent God. Not everyone is the same, laws of physics seem fixed but do you believe in the unseen? The verse 'the devils see you (humans) but you do not see them.' And how the jinn under Solomon's command, when asked who could bring me her palace, responds, because he had knowledge of the scripture, I can bring it to you in a blink of an eye.
Size is everything
Weight is nothing
Pressure is eternalPeople try and trap God with one sided arguments, in which they think they encompassed all sides, but when you view the 3 dimensions separately you will see they're perfectly balanced and not just random phenomena.
Size is limitless liquid mind water
Weight is infinite solid body food
Pressure is free gas soul airWhy are there three forms of excretion to poo, to pee, and to breathe out, there is a fourth to perspire which I think will have to do with heat.
People try and argue with submitters to God that where are the failures, where are the things and probabilities of failures. But given the parameters of existence, knowledge of the mind knows it can lift it, but mind can not convert the energy into mass, power of the body does not have to lift much but can convert the energy into mass, wisdom knows it can lift and convert but cannot withstand the pressure of time.
What we learn is everything is nothing, nothing is still nothing, and the eternal is to come.
Or in the words of Ian Brown, "Everything changes, nothing stays the same, no one can extinguish this eternal hallowed flame).
Hearing is limitless, sight is infinite, speech is free.

No
I do not think it is as simple as a yes or no question, because to say yes is to say He could create a rock He could NOT carry. Is to limit Him, but God teaches in the Quran, 'God is able to do all things'. To say no...I think implies God could NOT create a rock He could not carry, so what do you we get. Either way your either limiting God or removing God from the situation.
What do you mean by no, he could not create a rock He could not carry?
I see it as a question of mind body and soul and think the answer lies in 3s, I think to tackle the question isn't to simply say yes or no.
I think there needs to be knowledge of the future, power of the now and wisdom of the past, which are embodied in the 3 Attributes of God, the Omniscient, the Omnipotent and the Omnipresent. Which link with the 3 tenses of time, future, present and past. The three particles in an atom, protons, neutrons, electrons . The 3 dimensions of space, up and down, left and right, and forward and backwards. It is a test between light and darkness, a question between good and evil and a competition between right and wrong.
Try not to say any, yes/no/don't know, just say there are three ways of looking at it, and they are all valid. You look to it in terms of its size, or its weight or its pressure. Philosophically with the mind, linguistically with the body, and historically with the soul.

The problem is that you want to use a finite object (rock), and finite parameters (weight) to create a paradox with infinite parameters (all-powerful).
The finite is called finite, because it HAS limits, otherwise it cannot be a rock or even called weight. But then you also make the infinite (God), a finite object, as He/It must have a location to 'carry' the object. So then it hasn't anything to with all-powerfullness, but with having no limitations on a reality that has been specifically designed to have limits.
The whole question seems smart, but it isn't. It only creates a paradox on a superficial level.

peace munzir,
Can I say you accept my position, which is to answer the question we have to first deduce what it is about the rock, so come to the conclusion God is Omniscient, God is Omnipotent, God is Omnipresent. He knows the future, He has power over the present and He has wisdom from the past.
What was asked of the Jews was to have faith in the Light, and what was asked of the Christians was to believe in the Good, and what was asked of Muslims was to devote to the Truth.
I say Muslim wearily because it is the creed of Abraham, who named us submitters, and the kalima was la ellaha elallah. If Jews are hypocrites, the Christians are liars and the Muhammadans are ignorant.failure of the mind
Seduction of the body
Corruption of the soulWhere as they look to God as the culprit, they should really look to their ownselves, who is evil, the ones who lead to darkness, bring evil or cause corruption. The Jews lead to darkness, the Christian bring evil, and the Muhammadans cause corruption. Evidently.

ignorantThe Muhamadans thought it really clever to add two verses, but were ignorant of the mathematical code, and thought they were really clever because there was doubt in the Book when it says 'there is no doubt'.
Come to the best form of Islam, join the submitters to God.

That question is a paradox.
I answered "No" previously because I did not really put any thought into the question. On one hand God can do and make anything - including a rock "God cannot carry".
On the other hand God is almighty - therefor there is nothing God cannot "carry".That is a paradox.

Yes... in two ways, firstly it's called infinity. And it's also called the god creating humans who could not carry a rock beyond their means. That's how the god does the supposedly impossible while some people call it undefined.

The answer is always YES.
The real question is can such a rock exist within this universe? Because if such a rock existed wouldn't the universe and all creation get destroyed? After all, weight is determined by density and God is infinite. Therefore, the rock in question would have to be of infinite density plus 1. Which would cause the biggest blackhole in the universe and, therefore, everything will get sucked in and destroyed.
There wouldn't be any light for us to see, so we wouldn't know if God couldn't lift the rock or not.
And where would God stand since the gravity of the rock would be greater than earth's. Way greater.
And what would be determined as "UP" as the gravity of the rock would always demand that "UP" is anything moving away from the rock.
But can God create such a rock? YES, but at what cost? The total destruction of everything else created.
God, of course, could create such a rock and not have the universe destroyed. But then, all rules of physics would've been changed and, therefore, the original question is rendered inapplicable.
But then again, God could create such a rock, not have the universe destroyed as well as not change the laws of physics. But then, I think, we wouldn't be able to explain it or understand it.
Lastly, isn't imagining God trying to carry anything tantamount to idolatry(Shirik)? After all, we're trying to imagine God here.
