Does God Forbid Suicide?

1731, 429, yes.

I think you should rewrite your question to 'does the Quran specifically forbid suicide?' We cant be fully sure of the characteristics of God. Or mabye even the abrahamic definition of god would be better.
-
Peace
I think it depends. For example, western muslims say it is, mainly to disassociate with the "terrorists". At the same time the "terrorists" dont see it that way, its martyrdom. Depends on which way you look at it IMO. Also, I think its permitted in the sense that you can't get out of a situation, such as rape or mass persecution. I forget the ayat which I am getting this off of so forgive me. I believe its a conditional ayatun, but it doesnt come to mind right now.
Peace

If one believes the quran to be from God, is that not the same thing?

True, yet there should be an understanding that not everyone here believes that. It can get confusing at times.

Surat Isra
29. Make not thy hand tied (like a niggard's) to thy neck, nor stretch it forth to its utmost reach, so that thou become blameworthy and destitute.-
Verily thy Lord doth provide sustenance in abundance for whom He pleaseth, and He provideth in a just measure. For He doth know and regard all His servants.
-
Kill not your children for fear of want We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin.
-
Nor come nigh to adultery for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils).
-
Nor take life - which Allah has made sacred - except for just cause. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, we have given his heir authority (to demand qisas or to forgive) but let him nor exceed bounds in the matter of taking life; for he is helped (by the Law).
-
Come not nigh to the orphan's property except to improve it, until he attains the age of full strength; and fulfil (every) engagement, for (every) engagement will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning).
-
Give full measure when ye measure, and weigh with a balance that is straight that is the most fitting and the most advantageous in the final determination.
-
And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of (feeling in) the heart will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning).
-
Nor walk on the earth with insolence for thou canst not rend the earth asunder, nor reach the mountains in height.
-
Of all such things the evil is hateful in the sight of thy Lord.
-
These are among the (precepts of) wisdom, which thy Lord has revealed to thee. Take not, with Allah, another object of worship, lest thou shouldst be thrown into Hell, blameworthy and rejected.
Surat Al Nisa
29. O ye who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade by mutual good-will Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves for verily Allah hath been to you Most Merciful!-
If any do that in rancour and injustice,- soon shall We cast them into the Fire And easy it is for Allah.
-
If ye (but) eschew the most heinous of the things which ye are forbidden to do, We shall expel out of you all the evil in you, and admit you to a gate of great honour.
However there is this
22.15. If any think that God will not help him(messenger) in this world and the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and cut (himself) off then let him see whether his plan will remove that which enrages (him)!

God =/= Quran. The Quran could be false but God? No...

Peace LP,
True, yet there should be an understanding that not everyone here believes that. It can get confusing at times.
Remember what this forum/site is basically about. While it is not imperative that members believe the quran is God's word, this is still the basic premise here.
About the general section;
This area deals with any general questions/issues regarding God / Islam / Quran not covered under other headings.
And from the rules;
2] Please note that this forum is primarily dedicated to the study and understanding of the Scripture (Quran)...
So, no confusion really. peace

I meant that the quran is a way we know God and what He decrees. If one says "what does the quran say?", it is the same thing as saying "what does God say?", assuming said person believes the quran to be from God. If we don't assume that, then brother Zein answered nicely.
It is rather trivial, I was just trying to clarify.

There have been Muslim who seperate between the Koran and God. Some Muslims in the past and some today believe the Koran is created for humans and not necessarily God's words since they say God is beyond human understanding. In fact in Abbasid era the Mu'tazilites had something similar to this.
If we were to assume there is an infinity of life out there, then we can assume there is an infinity of revelations out there. Just like creatures differ, revelations can also differ. All from God but speaks in different languages and logic and philosophy. God may communicate with us humans via the Koran but can communicate with others differently.

Peace Tarikh,
You guys like to beat around the bush.
Actually OPF answered the original question precisely . Check the second post (add 1733).
- O you who believe, do not consume your money between you unjustly, except through a trade which is mutually agreed by you. And do not kill yourselves; God is Merciful towards you.
