So What do you think God is?
-
Peace,
I've yet to come across a definition or concept that sufficiently expresses what God is - nor do I think it is possible to do so. Terms like infinite, eternal, omnipresent and omnipotent point to an understanding that is beyond our finite comprehension. Yet, these are just words and do not, in themselves, do anything to effectively describe God other than to say God is indescribable - since there is no point of reference.
The glimpses we get of God do not come from knowledge, or mind-stuff, but from feeling. When we feel compassion and love, we feel the infinite - we've touched it. And that can never be captured by words, just as a camera can never capture the experience of being somewhere.
That being said, I agree with some of the effects of God stated on this thread, ie, doing good, truth, etc. These effects lead to feeling God in their application and recognition, but do not, in themselves, define God.
Peace,

Peace samia, i don't agree, why couldn't a person who does not believe in the existence of god do good ?
lkSalaam Elke
I do not think the quraan spoke of believing in the "existence" of God but rather in God. In fact the word "wujuud existence" does not exist in the quraan.

Peace be upon you,
The God does not EXsist, but INsists ;D

Salaam Elke
What's the point in believing in the existence of healthy foof if all you eat is junk?
samia
i have the feeling you inversed the logic here. This would apply to someone who professes to believe in god, but does not do good. Not to someone who does not believe in god, but does good.
Salaam Elke

Believe in god or believe in the existence of god, sorry but for me it's the same, or at least does not change what i said. People can do good without being believers in (the existence of) god.
Peace Elke
See verse 30/30.
Joe
peace nabi - read it, but didn't get it. Can you elaborate ?? It must be me confused
Peace be upon you,
The God does not EXsist, but INsists ;D
Kyle, ouf i got at least that one (or only think i did...)

Yes, I realized that after I re-read your message. Sorry for the reversed logic
Do you mean there is no difference between telling someone you believe in them and you believe in their existenc?
Those who do good and do not believe in the existence of God is because either they do not know what God is, or they are not convinced about what people think God is. Which brings us back to the question What do you think God is?

It's not about the belief of the existence of God, the good part of man is 'inside us'; The good energy... God's energy (1529, 3872, 478-79). It doesn't matter what you 'believe'; It matters what you 'do'. Of course athiests, agnostics, etc... are very capable of doing 'good'.That is why we are advised not to call peaceful people disbelievers/rejecters (494).
Let's get back on topic, great answers everyone.

Peace be upon you Elke,
Consciousness (God) INsists. The duality of this one Consciousness is the One EXternal matter of which creation manifests, therefore all creation EXsists. The one Consciouness within permeates all EXternal beings.

The nature of the creator / God
By virtue of there being GOOD and BAD in the world, it is reasonable to assume that the creator is also both of these. Or is it?
By virtue of human beings possessing the ability to LOVE and HATE, it is reasonable to assume that the creator also loves and hates. Or is it?
It is most certainly necessary for the creator to comprehend good, bad, love and hate by virtue of the creator having made them! BUT, which of these does the creator advocate, if any?
I propose that the creator advocates that which is good and love, because the others do not "work". To put it another way, goodness and love CREATE, but that which is bad and hate, DESTROYS.

No vision can encompass God. God is a great mystery for us. Our minds cannot and weren't designed to, conceive what God is. Besides, He Himself created our minds. So far, His attributes comprises of things our minds are aware of and that exist on earth. We all know what to be merciful is or what to be Unique is. But apart from that we dont know anything else about God.

Peace all,
GOD per the Quran is the Light of the heavens and earth, most likely understood as per modern science as the Higgs Field(see wiki). Ive discussed this in detail at http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=15072.msg146317#msg146317 onwards. GOD Bless! -
My opinion of what I think God is!
A higher force power that we can connect with through our minds. Everything in the whole universe are made of energy, we also have energy and in fact our thoughts has great power and with that power we can send out both positive and negative energy.

it's kinda tricky to belive in God when we can't know for sure what God is... isn't it!? Just how can we get it right? So there must be some way in which everyone can believe in God... even if this way might be a bit different from someone else's way. If humans can't encompass God in understanding, then we can only pick up parts of what God is... and maybe all of us are not picking up the same parts... so it could be ok with different concepts, as long as that is God.
it is also tricky that we should not (according to the quran) associate anything with God. How the heck do you avoid that?!?? What does that mean? Can I not associate love or energy with God? But its ok to associate qualities with God? What does associate mean anyway??
why is God not the creation? Are we told this so that we should not associate smaller things with God, and limit our perception of God to something. What is a creation? Is love created? Is energy created? It exists, but it is not part of God??!?!
One can go bonkers for less than these philosophical questions! brickwall ???
peace to all

Peace "huruf",
God is. Nothing else is.
God is ever awake but we are his dream. The universes are his dream.
We are not. We are dreamed.
This is not theology or doctrine. It is just the best way a can express my idea.
Salaam
JK- This sounds similar to the "world is a matrix" idea proposed by Harun Yahya and also somewhat accepted amongst sufis. Initially i thought it to be a good theory but due to a lack of evidence have backed away from it. Both Quran and the quantum physics tend to go more in the direction ive stated above. GOD Bless!

Peace "zulf",
Maybe one wouldnt go bonkers if he/she just considered this http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=15072.msg146317#msg146317 GOD Bless!Well, one can arrive at, and shift between, different theories about God. However, they remain just that, theories. We won't find the ultimate truth, in this life, whether we look toward quantum theories and bosons or perhaps flying horses and nighly journeys. But then again, we may improve the ideas we have, develop them, as long as we are openminded.
But the possibility of going bonkers doesn't depend on theories.... it depends on how hard we try to understand things we can't fully understand.
Peace bro! I do enjoy your quanitified bosons!
