    Peace Wakas,

Yes, I find it correct that Abraham break the idle and He became active in his life by turn to God(Allah,Higher force,Universe) for his needs.

In fact that is the answers to our call, to ask The Higher Force of aid, what you ask for you get.

Therefore it's important to upheld a good communication with your fellow brothers and sisters your neighbours and the world.
Quran is a guideline to righteous behaviours and what happens to you if you go against good behaviours. It will only fall back on you so to uphold a good cause it's the advice The higher spirit revealed to us.

We should indeed be thankful that we have this guideline or else many more people would be lost and have no clues at all how to adhere to the good things in life. We are responsible for our thoughts because it's with our thoughts that we create the surroundings that make our life here on earth.

Yeah, I know that I have been very much addicted to the theory of " The Law Of Attraction" but I really have found so many "Aha" revelations when I read that book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.

I wished all read that book, it's very great and uplifting for our souls/minds.

    Peace
    Maria

      It would be

What did Abraham do first? Break his own habit/pattern of idling (idling to spend time doing nothing or being idle) or beak an idol (as in the story in The Quran)?

Clearly, he had to stop idling (i.e. break an idle) to break an idol (promote change).

Becoming active comes first (i.e. changing yourself) ---> then change comes after (i.e. a change in conditions round about you)

similar to the wisdom "be the change you want to see in the world", e.g. see 1311.

That was the message I was trying to promote/convey/encourage/suggest.

Just curious- where is Abraham idling?

      But here are some good tips for you- if you idle;

      Salaams.

        He broke an idol first.

Our behavior is a reflection of our thinking (mental state). What is in our heads translates into how we act, not the other way around.

Yes, that's what I thought you meant but good to have it clarified. On a more mundane level, it might be equated to say for example, maybe exercising or exerting oneself personally or for a greater cause. You know you have to since you've been sitting on it/avoiding/ignoring it...but to actually get up and do it thats a whole different story.

I guess that (idleness) happens because people follow their emotions (idols). We mostly do things based on pleasure and pain. In the case of procrastination, not doing something painful is pleasurable until the pain of not doing it becomes greater than the pain of actually doing it. That's why we must control our emotions and not let our emotions control us. In other words, we must be at peace at all times, our reasoning unclouded by emotions.
And we can actually program our behavior by manipulating our likes and dislikes. We might convince ourselves that exercise is pleasurable, and that sitting around doing nothing is painful. Or that going out and helping people is better than not doing it.
The Quran says god doesn't change our state unless we change what's inside ourselves.

              peace Lobster,

That is one reason I was not specific originally, as I thought it could be interpreted in other ways.

All - thanks for the replies.

I quite agree in a general sense. It's interesting to break down individual reactions and see the causes/progression. Helps in analysing and whenever we do that, emotions tend to take a back seat when the brain/mind gets involved. It's more of a complete picture kinda thing with individual stages and imo balance is achieved when the scales stop swinging but swing they must for the process to complete in a way.

Well maria that isn?t what he looked at ? I think.

What on earth can one learn by looking at the stars or sun and the moon, or is there some scripture written on them?

                  He actually learnt from experience.

676 Kawkabun? Check lanes. Remember some people take it that their children will provide them for the future.

                  Shamas= avericousness and qamar= deception.

Abraham when overwhelmed by bad times, like when pharaoh orders them to slaughter their children, his son and other humans weren?t his rabb at all, neither the actions of deception nor avariciousness.

But Gods bond or their relationship

Rahman = Love and Mercy without regard to effort.
Rahim = continuous dispensing of rewards to the deserving.

Plus the other attributes/ descriptions/ qualities.

Was the only rabb-eternal sustainer, it is apart from Gods bond something you can apply everyday.

                  God Bless.

                    Peace,

Well yes, of course he didn't saw something written on the stars etc but as you say he searched for the divine and by experience that evil cause more evil. Or that is actually how i see it. He turned to the right master who could provide the good things not pharao who was spreading horror and evil around.

He found the method to attract merci and goodness and peace.By viewing Pharao he saw the opposite.

They are not constant, and couldn't possibly be the God, as people of that day claimed. I think you missed the point of Abraham's story. He used logic to draw his conclusion.

                        well DA,

the meanings i am using are based on lanes lexicon.
                        But;
you could be right- but not as i see things.

                        your reasoning
Abraham after years of living his life gets a child- suddenly one night looks at a star and says that might be my RABB, Then "no" its the sun- that might be my Rabb, then again "no" its the Moon ;For God sakes man he is a prophet - beyond me your type of reasoning Br. Sorry.

                        My reasoning
I think- you may or may not agree though.

He gets a son who he tried saving by deception from a murder and then by being averice but neither gave way and may be other things in his life as well no doubt from which he realised people can't be your Rabb and neither the action of deception and avariciousness- but only actions or relationships based on Gods attributes are the Rabb, which provide to humanity.

You should be able to see this in practice all round the world- if you can't well........

                        God Bless All.

The words for these meanings are not shams and qamar, but tasham-mus and taqam-mur. The respective adjectives are mutasham-mis and mutaqam-mir. Both are derived from shams and qamar Sun and moon

                            Hi Samia,

Sorry dear i just wrote them like that to save time- but they aren't Sun and Moon anyway according when i did my research, but of course if you wish to interpret them like that that is your choice.

Was it dul qarnain who saw the sun setting into a muddy lake- May be that is some people's belief certainly not the majority here.

Its like saying the stick changed to snake- not at all.

                            God Bless.

setting in a spring of murky water

                                      setting in a muddy spring

going down into a black sea

Thanks but i used have your brain in my head once upon a time- Thanks to people who helped me set it aright.

                                      God Bless.

secondly wasn't there a different word for the ocean in your quran.

Any "knowledgeable person" whereby "knowledgable" = "agreeing with my views", ain't that right? All of those statements are correct from the given perspective.

Maybe you should put it back in

On second thoughts, keep that new brain in there - if you can deduce there is an ocean in that photo, and nothing else (the radius is <17km needed for a horizon view similar to that), then clearly your brain has something mine doesn't.

In any case, explain the following verses, such as 590 if you please.

Not call you to account Allah of futility in your faith/beliefs but will call you to account for what is deliberate in you faiths/beliefs????.

He found it occupied in plain view scorn/tribal pride/stubborn disdain(passion of protection) and found with it a people We said ?O Dhulqarnain either you punish(them) or you treat them with kindness. He said as for him who does wrong shall we punish him then he will be brought back unto his lord who Will punish him (with) a torment terrible. But as for him who believes and works righteous he shall have reward the best and we shall speak unto him from our words mild.then he followed (another)way.until when he reached the rising place of the sun/place of hostilities he found it rising on a people not provided for whom against it (sun/hostilities) any shelter as it was and We knew whatever information with him.

                                          God Bless.

Can you please cut and paste or copy the relevant part of Lane's? I do not have this lexicon. No classical dictionary says more than what I copied.

As for the verse of Dhul Qarnain, I think this is a poor literal translation that did not take into consideration the differences between Arabic and English expressions. If I say "alghuruub fi nahrin-neel" (literally sunset in the River Nile), it means the reflection of sunset in the river Nile, not the sun is setting inside the river. Interpreters should have been more careful. Even the tafaseer do not say that.
