i am sorry you must bear with their meanness. i suggest you ignore them- especially if being civil is not working. i have to contend with this as well sometimes. if they sneer or mutter, i usually smile and wave back. just pass by, let them go. it is their problem, not yours.

...and if they pass by vain talk they pass by with dignity. 2572

      Peace

When the messengers of God were insulted daily they did not react a way to hurt their own selves.

Sorry this happened to you When people insult, the best thing to do is to simply keep walking. Especially because something like that could easily escalate into violence and you would be pitted 1 against 6. However, if they attack physically, you should do the best to protect yourself and get away. It's best to remember that angry people are not swayed by angrier words and it only justifies their position if you become toxic as well.
But if you want an improvised solution, we could plan some sort of night attack and elektro or maybe even voodoo but I don't think that would be wise rotfl

Peace, in this world, we have no other than God and believers to support us. Disbelievers provoked me today. Some unpleasant neighbors who dont like the fact that we moved in. While passing by peacefully, they (at least six in number) called me gay. I responded by asking what the problem was, they started to insult me lowly. Well i wont get into these petty details. So brothers and sisters here, what must we do if another situation like this happens again? Thanks

          Peace Tarikh,

What you describe is an awful situation that could well mess up your life if you don't deal with it properly.
I believe it's pretty clear from the Quran that we're required as Muslims to stand up for our rights and surely it's your right to go unmolested in your neighbourhood.
Remember never show any fear. The way to do that is to be prepared at all times to die ( not saying it would come to that hmm); that way you will radiate calm and confidence rather than insecurity, which a pack like that will be sure to pick up on.
These thugs who appear in gangs are sure to be cowards, which means they will attack you only if they have you well outnumbered. Do you have any friends living nearby who might assist you in a deterring show of force? If not a sturdy dog with white fangs may do the trick. >

          Best of luck!!

I agree that if it just verbal abuse you ignore it and go your way. Ifit becomes physical, report to the police, and be prepared to die as our friend Omar says, but even if you don't manage that and you are dead afraid inside, do not give in to or show fear. That is the last thing to do. Fear breeds violence and indeed people who act like that are plain cowards, the moment they smell they are not going to get away with it, they scurrel like coacroches. Nothign to be afraid of, really. I have seen this kind of thing over and over. It is always the same.

I get insulted and people laugh at me and mock and everything too when I'm at work. It's because I don't fit in. They're always saying sex jokes and disrespectful things to one another and I don't participate. They all go out for drinks after work especially on weekends and I don't go ... so they think there's something wrong with me! Do I need to fit in? No, I don't care.

6116 Now if thou pay heed unto the majority of those on earth, they will but lead thee astray from the path of God they follow but conjectures, and they themselves do nothing but guess.

They are here to enjoy this life and I would rather invest in the afterlife then Allah will judge between us on what we disagreed.

It is a very difficult situation. I would just smile in their faces and say hello and move on pretending that there's nothing wrong and be patient.
                Afterall

2214 Or do ye think that ye shall enter the Garden (of bliss) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? they encountered suffering and adversity, and were so shaken in spirit that even the Messenger and those of faith who were with him cried "When (will come) the help of Allah." Ah! Verily, the help of Allah is (always) near!

Some souls are beyond help. Allah guides whoever He wants.

Peace, sorry to hear this. I feel the same too. Plus when there's girl passing by, they'd all make comments. I hate to have friends like this and i hate being among such company.

                    Peace,

Hate and disdain are things we carry. What's the point? As Ghandi said (I think), "Hatred for someone is like drinking poison and expecting it to kill others."

So, if people feel the need to look down on you and/or belittle you, it is their own shortcomings and ignorance that are manifest. Thus, it is not necessary to confront these people with any sort of comeback just as it is not necessary to confront a barking dog by barking back.

That being said, taking the high road is not an easy thing, particularly when the ego is getting beat down. But, with practice, it gets easier. Someone calls you gay, you say, "good morning" and "may peace be upon you" in full confidence. React in a way that confuses them and leaves them with a message that their taunts will not produce the outcome they hope for, which is either you walking away in shame or you confronting them in defense.

If a dog chases you he expects you to run or to fight back. What would he do if you instead threw down a nice piece of steak?

                    Peace,
                    Tay

This is good advise and quite from the quraan

"The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel with the one which is better the result is that the one who has enmity towards you will be as though he/she is a good friend" 4134

Salam Tarik and all other brothers and sisters )

From the age of 13-16 many people didn't accepted me. I was wearing strange clothes, and had a strange hair cut, thanks to my mama by the way. I didn't do as the other youth, for example participating in sports etc, and because of these a few people at my school hit me, insulted me with racist words, dissed my hair, talked behind my back, throw snowballs at me etc. There were few foreigners at my school, and those people that were dissing me, had alcoholic or parents that use violence on them etc. back to my story. I had few friends at that time, and all of them was scared like me, so they never backed up, or helped me.

I did'nt get accepted because of my clothes and my haircut, and at that time image was meant everything for the youths. One day, i had enough, and wanted to change. I got to know iranians from the city i lived in, and i started participating in sports. Especially in martial arts and weightlifting. I changed my whole clothing style, from non-trendy to trendy, and i dit it by observing what kind og clothing style and haircuts the cool guys at my school were having. I slowly builded up a good rumour in my town, and people were showing me respect. No one dared to mess with me, because they knew that i now had a whole crew behind my back, and especially back up from iranian friends. Even the same snakes that were insulting me when i was younger, know began respecting me, and some of them even admired me, and most of them wanted to hang out with me. I was the popular one now. And even more popular than those snakes.

If you study the animal kingdom you will se that the strongest animals get all the respect from the other animals, while the weak animals often are ones that get attacked. We need to build ourselves to be strong, or at least show people a picture of that. No one is genetically born to be weaker than others when it comes to getting respect etc. In order for people to respect we first have to respect ourselves, and our body and mind. If i let someone hit me, then that means i don't respect my body. And how the heck can someone respect me if i don't even respect myself or my body. There are rules everywhere, and if someone breaks them it will lead consequenses. We must tell people our rules, and show them what we accept and don't accept. we must never let anyone cross the boundaries we set. If someone insults me, i will tell them that no one is allowed that to talk to me like that. And i will tell them that what they do or say is unacceptable, and i say to them I wont allow them no one to act like that to me. If they continue i will punish them by ignoring them as they never exist. Once a dude at my school breaked my rules and i told him that if he do it one more time, i won't talk to him the rest of my life. Do you know what happened, the dude never ever showed me any dissrespect in any form, and today we are good friends. You must show people who's the boss.

If somone wants to fight with me, i will tell them that i won't fight, and that i just am a kind guy that wants to have fun and live in peace with everybody. If they don't care and continue to tell me stuff after i have told them i wont fight, then i would run. If they run after me, and they catch me in a corner or something, then i have no choice but fighting. I got Allah and the Quran, and i ain't afraid of anyone. When you believe in god, nothing can stop you.

If a fight starts and If it is only one person against me in the fight, then i will use my knuckles, but there are more than one person, they are breaking the man-rule by being cowards, so then i can break the rules to, so i will use any weapon i find around me, everything from sticks to stones, to chairs etc. I always try to be with with as many friends at possible. Because people will respect if you are with other friends, and i make sure people see my friends. We humans are more strong when we are together than when we walk alone. Fighting is off course the last solution, but sometimes in our life, we have to fight to end something. Thats why there are violent demonstrations etc. I think all the downfall of the dangerous regimes in the world happened through violence, or by fighting back at the tyrants. We must never give in to threats

By the way, I haven't been in a real fight for over 3 years, thanks to God. It seems as when i don't seek trouble, it won't come after me, but if it come, it won't have any power on me, and it will eventually fade out.

By the way, You can read the whole story of how i came i found god alone here Tarik

Hi Tarikh, and everybody else.. I do agree with G.Omar in the sense that you should not be scared of death, its easier said than done though... If a person is submitting to God with the best of intentions and efforts then why should he/she be scared to go to a place that is much better than this world? A place where there is no grief, no evil, no confusion - but only satisfaction, peace, and whatever may satisfy us. Once we taste death in this world we are not really dead, because we are brought back to life in the hereafter - though many may not perceive it.

I think a belief in this philosophy opens ones mind to many options and challenges because the fear of possible death does not hinder a person anymore. It gives a sense of calm that leads to good decision making in difficult situations because whats the worst that will happen? Ill die and go to heaven, that doesn't sound too bad. IMO the believer puts his trust in God and carries on, justifying his/her actions words and thoughts with the Quran and keeping his/her intentions as clean as a mirror.

At this point I have to agree with Samia, that the Quran says one must avert evil by that which is good. When one can do this he has gotten rid of a stain from his/her heart, the stain of vengeance or evil. God forgives us all the time, so we should forgive others, treat others like how we want to be treated. By getting rid of this stain of evil, namely vengeance, one becomes purified - it takes a conscious effort to restrain oneself, turn the other cheek and be patient . I agree, at times one needs to muster force for deterence, or defend oneself, or physically fight people when people fight us - but that is when somebody is fighting you for your deen because we are forbidden to turn in friendship or kind to people who fight us for our deen , who stop us in an act of submission/justification.
Writing a paper in 2 pages was always tougher than writing a 20 page paper for me.
                          Peace.
