      Peace bro,
I don't think Sunni islam was the original religion preached by Muhammad. There are many reasons why I believe this. One of them is that Abraham/Moses/Jesus etc. were also believers and they didn't do half the things Sunni's do as part of their Deen.

        Peace bro,

No I am not saying that Muhammad himself created/preached sunni islam, by any means. My main questions are that Did Muhammad even create the religion called Islam? Secondly, what if it was his followers who created it?

          Greetings DArgento,

I know what you mean. I've wondered the same thing myself. I've wondered that perhaps the message that Mohammad taught was less structured than 'Sunni' Islam (as what we see in the Qur'an), but the followers who came later couldn't take it that way -- couldn't understand the beauty of it as it was; and so the 'scholars' began building the structure around them, to push aside the fears and uncertainties that they felt at not having so much
certitude' that they were doing it 'right'. Fulfilling rituals and acts that they are told are 'right' gives many people a (false) sense of relief -- You see, then they don't have to think about it or worry about it any more. They come to rest their fate in the hands of the scholars who 'know better'. hail

It was neither Muhammad nor his companions who created it. Sunni Islam was created by the clergy of the late Ummayyad and Abbasid eras to serve the interests of the corrupt Sultans.

The clergy are, and have always been, the "junud" of the Sultan. They are responsible for all the stagnation, mysery, and divisions among those who call themselves "Muslims" . They are the main obstacle in the face of progress.

Remember that the renaissance in Europe couldn't have taken place without first burrying the clergy in their monasteries and telling them to "get off the peoples' backs".

                Some hints are given here

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                  As Salaamu Alaika DArgento,

I think the answer is obvious from your topic name. Messengers/Prophets don't come to "create" religions. They come to promote the one "DEEN" that has existed since creation, Al Islam. Deen being a way of life for all creation to live in harmony with the plan of The Creator, there is no difference in what the Messengers/Prophets taught essentially; and that is what Al Quran teaches.

Allah only recognizes the way that the followers of those previous scriptures changed their messages into different "named religions", but reminds us by saying that Ibraheem "was neither a Jew or a Christian". This points out to us that there has always and will always only be one "religion", "DEEN" called Al Islam, before Allah. So any Messenger/Prophet could not misappropiate or create any other religion if he is truly sent from Allah. It is clear that it is those that come after them that claim to follow them that do such things, as it is told to us in Al Quran.

                  As Salaamu Alaikum, peace

                    Peace DArgento,

It would like saying did Jesus create christianity? Answer = no.

I believe IQA said it well here

but you'll always find humans who try and create their own religions... such as sects and like this guy here

Good statement. Its sad that people from all the religions don't see this. I think that the Hindus are the closest to come with this idea.

                      Peace
