Abstract
Amartya Sen started a debate about gender bias in mortality by estimating the number of "missing women," which refers to the number of females of any age who have presumably died as a result of discriminatory treatment. Depending on the assumptions made, the combined estimates for countries exhibiting the presence of such gender bias varied between 60 and 107 million. As new population data have become available for these countries, this article examines whether the number of "missing women" has changed in the past decade. The combined estimate of the number of missing women has risen in absolute terms but has fallen slightly in relation to overall population. Considerable improvement is evident in West Asia, North Africa, and parts of South Asia, while only small improvements have occurred in India and a deterioration took place in China. Analyses of the underlying causes of gender bias in mortality suggest that improvements are largely related to improved female education and employment opportunities and rising overall incomes, while deterioration is mostly attributable to the rising incidence of sex-selective abortions.

Also made possible by technological advances, is the selective targeting of individuals, using a DNA-specific poison, as demonstrated in the murder of Alexander Litvinenko.
Another situation, waiting to happen, on a larger scale, is the elimination of "inferior races" through genetically modified, biological weapons, as predicted in ?Things to come? by H G Wells.

Wars never stop in this world but how come there are still more men than women?
As you can see from the articles quoted or linked in the first message, many more boys than girls are born than should be the natural occurrence, and since in those countries either there have been no wars, they cannot have reduced the number of males. Also even with wars today it is not guranteed kill more men than women will die since dead are made massively among civilians. So no "hope" on that side.

Actually a lot of countries have females in a 2% majority, and that's the natural balance. Excess of males in a region = bad. In all but the most deprived conditions and even then, females outnumber males. In mostly ever developed country.
In India, there isn't proportionally a huge difference (1.06 according to wiki according to CIA World Factbook) but 0.06 of a billion is still pretty large. The most worrying thing is that there probably will be a huge explosion in 20 years because of the 1.12 ratios at birth in both China and India.

Even before birth masculine ortality is greater, so that, even if at birth there are more males than females, when not selected in a ratio 103-100, with age females overtake males. However a difference at birth of 112-100, for instance, will eventually resulta in a serious inbalance. I am not sure that war is the best way of getting rid of of "excess" male population, unless you pick the males form the areas where in fact there are excess males.
At any rate, this is most undesirable kind of imbalance and I wonder, apart from war what could be done, because unless some miracle occur I do not think this will not come without causing trouble. Some indoctrination in asceticism may work, but I am suspicious of any indoctrination not resulting in something worse and hypocrisy.

Female babies used to be buried alive in many cultures! In India it's a burden on the famliy because the girl has to pay the dowry to her man. In China and its one Child policy they want males to financially provide for the parents.
well females have to marry 4 husbands then. hmm
These people dont believe in God. There are families with about seven daughters, all engineers and doctors and lawyers.
