This is kind of a continuation of my other question, but the old name was a bit extravagant. Anyway,
As I'm sure most of you know, the advice for unmarried people for lowering ones desire is to fast. I was wondering, do you think I would be following this advice If instead of a full fast, I did a water/tea fast? I don't want to get dehydrated, because I have to exercise at night, and tea is really good for you and purifying. But I am not sure if it would count as a good deed if it were not the full fast.

Can you clarify the following point

As I'm sure most of you know, the advice for unmarried people for lowering ones desire is to fast.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Wow, I can't find it. I was sure I read it in the Quran someplace. I'll keep looking...

EDIT I don't think it's there. I confused it with this hadith,

"O youth, whoever of you is able to marry, let him marry, for it prevents forbidden stares or lapsing in adultery. And if he cannot marry, let him observe fasting, for it is a shield against evil." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, English Translation, Vol. 7, Book

In which case I do not know what to think... It does seem like good advice though, and I am not sure why anyone would fabricate that.

Hmmm, I thought I was doing something good for my spirit and status, but if it is not in the Quran, then perhaps it is vain?

I was gonna say, if it helps you, or if it's good for you in some way, do it. I do find it a little extreme though. I know of someone who did that for a month! hypno Not sure what his purpose was, I think he was just disciplining himself.

How were you planning to do it?.. for how long?

          Peace

Fasting is good, its not in vain

2183 O you who believe, fasting has been decreed for you as it was decreed for those before you, perhaps you may be righteous.

3335 Surely, the submitting men, and the submitting women, the believing men, and the believing women, the dutiful men, and the dutiful women, the truthful men, and the truthful women, the patient men, and the patient women, the humble men, and the humble women, the charitable men, and the charitable women, the fasting men, and the fasting women, the men who keep covered their private parts, and the women who similarly keep covered, and the men who commemorate God frequently, and the commemorating women; God has prepared for them a forgiveness and a great recompense.

9121 And anything small or large they spend, or any valley they cross, it will be recorded for them. God will recompense them with the best of what they did.

Thank you very much aal! I feel very supported by this, and also thank you for the beautiful reminder with the verses. Bless you!

              Peace zenje,

So it is my second day fasting, and It is definantly helping. I feel calm, and it is now extremely easy to keep a chaste mind. So I feel more upright, and more civil with the ladies. I am especially pleased with the physical effects. My eyes and skin are clearer, and when I break the fast I feel very healthy and energized. It's also way easier to eat good stuff, because when breaking a fast anything tastes good. So raw brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots, spinach, greens and all manner of nutritious things--excellent, and easy. They are harder to eat when your spoiled with processed stuff during the day. Unless I can't stand it, or feel unhealthy, I think I shall do this until I am able to find marriage, except on some days when I'm doing something special like hiking or on a trip someplace. A very wise advice! Definantly a blessing; I would recommend anyone healthy enough to give it a try. It's different from a full fast, you don't feel so tired because you remain hydrated. I also take a natural vitamin/herb/nutrition supplement at night, good stuff, makes sure nothing is lacking. We should try to be healthy you know, so we can love and give more, do more charity and be clearer-minded. It's a part of the responsibility don't you think?

Doesn't it also remind us how valuable food is... Especially considering how many people go without food everyday.

                  True House,
Food is very valuable, and it says there are 'signs' in it, and God 'brought it forth' from the seed. It is miraculous life, and in addition to that many plant foods contain specific nutrients and medicines just for the bodies of those who consume. We should be very grateful, at the sustenance, and be strengthened by the genius signs of it's marvelous appearance from tiny strands of DNA. And yes, we should be especially grateful since not everyone has food, and that is test for us I think. That is an especially important thing you have said, we must remember to share it, and to use it in wise ways. To use the energy and health derived from it to spread faith, kindness, and to set a good example. So what did you have in mind?
