I have often thought it must have been a group in opposition to the prophets family, why on earth would the prophet forbid it for his own descendants?

i never knew they were. is there an aya that says this or is it because they are ommited from the list of approved beneficiaries?
They are to be (according to the currant practised belief to my knowledge) and are omitted by Sunnies worldwide- ask any alim Br.
