Verse 33:56
-
Some comments please on the following verse. I was told this is why I need to show respect and send blessings to Prophet Muhammad more so then the others. Since becoming more incline to Quran only, my sunni husband and I have had some debates. He is not a die hard sunni, as in there are some hadith he claims are ridiculous even if from Bukari and Muslim. Anyway any perspectives on this would be appreciated. As always, thanks!
Syed Ahamed translation
3356 Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet Oh you who believe! Send your blessings on him and salute him with respect.Sahih International
3356 Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels . O you who have believed, ask blessing upon him and ask peace. -
Peace,
The root meaning of the word SLW is that of "turning and attaching/connecting" to something. So if you look at the verse carefully, Allah and His angels do all on the Prophet and the believers do all on the Prophet also. How can humans send blessings to the Prophet? What does that even mean? This is why in the Sahih Int. translations they include "ask " which is nowhere in the Arabic.
33/56 Indeed Allah and His Angels (they) connect/attach upon the Prophet. O you who believe! (You) Connect/attach upon him and greet him in peace.

3356 Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels . O you who have believed, ask blessing upon him and ask peace.red highlights above are from me.
This is my understanding of the verse 3356.
Verily, ALLAAH and His angels SALUTE the prophet. O you believers SALUTE him and submit yourselves submissively.
1st The above verse is about SALUTATION, a gesture, encountering someone you have respect for. It?s used for the LIVING, not for the dead.
2nd ALLAAH, SWT, informs us that He and His angels already salute the prophet, pbuh.
3rd In the latter part of the verse, ALLAAH, SWT, is commanding the believers to SALUTE the LIVING prophet on their own behalf, and not on behalf of ALLAAH. SALUTE him when they ENCOUNTER him.
Nowadays, every time the prophet or his name, i.e. Muhammad, is mentioned, the sectarians out of whim send SALUTATION on behalf of ALLAAH to the DEAD prophet. The sectarians say, ?May ALLAAH?S peace and blessings be upon him?!!! Or in Arabic, ?sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam?!! They do NOT pay any attention to the verse at all, when it informs us that, ALLAAH and His angels already SALUTE the prophet, and now its the duty of the believers themselves, to send their own personal SALUTATIONS to him.
I do believe that it is not necessary to SALUTE a dead person. Instead we should say ?peace be upon him?, or in Arabic, ?ALAYHISSALAAM?, as we say it for all the messengers of GOD, SWT.
Peace,

Hi Mushu, all,
I just try to understand, what does " connect/attach upon the Prophet" mean? Can you find a better way to say it in english.
My questionning continue with
what Allah and his malaikat do that can be done by the believers in the exact same way?
Does salu and salu 3ala have the same meaning, take as exemple the different meaning of salam and salam 3ala, same word but different maning when adding particule 3ala?Peace

I was told this is why I need to show respect and send blessings to Prophet Muhammad more so then the others.
Then what about the other Quran verses saying make no distinction among them etc?
I dont see any harm in believers at the time, or perhaps even in the future, sending positive commendations/orations upon him, e.g. when they mention him etc just like all prophets.

Please check verses 3341-44 to see that the god does the same (yusalli) for "al-mumineen", so it is not exclusive to "an-naby". You will see also what is the goal from this action to bring people from darkness to light.

Peace Someonae, all,
very interresting highlight of verse 3341-44
I do understand then when
Allah and Malaikat yussalu 3ala al nabi or/and al muminin to bring al nabi/al muminin from darkness to lightbut I don't understand when the same action is done by "aladhina amanu" to the nabi ?
Peace

Peace Mazhar, all,
@ Mazhar some comment with your reply would be welcome.
My questionning leads me to the following conclusion
verse 3341-44
Allah and and his malaikat yussalu 3ala al mumineen3356
al mumineen yussalu 3ala alnabiwith the goal of bringing someone from darkness to light
My conclusion is SALLI 3ala means "to support " someone in the context of the definition "following someone closely" -->e.g. to be with and not to be against or to turn away as in verse 7531-32
7531 So he gave nothing in charity nor did SALLI!
7532 But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away!An other interesting highlight, when looking all the verse where "SALLI" is used the context is often during war time, when the nabi needed the most support.
Peace
