Understanding "Shrik"
-
Salam,
Belalhammad, your actions reveal your intentions.
"Acting" one way and then saying your "intention" is another is a contradiction.
Intention means an act or instance of determining mentally upon some action or result.
a purpose or attitude toward the effect of one's actions or conduct
goal, Intention, intent, purpose all refer to a wish that one means to carry out.An intention is the result you wish to have from a physical action (such as speech, or movement etc)
Therefore, what is the intention (or goal if you will) of reciting Muhammad's name with the shahada if it is not to make a difference between him and the other messengers?
If your intention (or goal or purpose) is to not make a difference between the messengers then you would try not to do it.
But if you are reciting Muhammad's name with the Shahada and no other prophet then that ACTION reveals that your intention is to make a difference between Muhammad and the other prophets by only mentioning his name.
Yes, Allah knows our true intentions.
Say your intention is to drive directly to the bank.
You try to do this but you become involved in an automobile accident (through no fault of your own).In this case, saying that even though you did not drive directly to the bank, your intention was to do so and you have no proof but Allah knows your true intention.
You made every effort to drive directly to the bank but something outside of your control intervened. This is where the excuse "Allah knows your true intentions" is applicable.
However, I see in your post you are misusing this statement.
You are deliberately acting one way (you are in full control of what you are saying) and then claiming that your intention is something else.
Now if someone forced you to say Muhammad's name when reciting the shahada I would agree that your intention (the action you intended to perform) was to not make a difference in the messengers, but something outside of your control forced you to act otherwise.

In order to testify that you completed your submission to God (complete your Dean), you have to accept the Quran as the final revelation. By saying I per witness that Mohamed (PBUH) is the prophet of God, you are confirming your acceptance of the Final revelation; after all, the final revelation was written by Mohamed (PBUH), and not send down as the Old Testament.
The following are Quotation from my discussion (http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=16691.30) on Shahada, in which I showed that testifying that Mohamed is the prophet of God was a common practice that God did not prohibited in the QuranHow shall Allah guide those who reject Faith after they accepted it and bore witness that the Messenger was true and that clear signs had come unto them? But Allah guides not a people unjust. (86-3) Of such the reward is that on them (rests) the curse of Allah, of His angels, and of all mankind. (87)
When the Hypocrites come to thee, they say "We bear witness that thou art indeed the Messenger of Allah." Yea, Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His Messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the Hypocrites are indeed liars. (63-1)
In these two verses, we can note that the Shahada was required from the people who came to the prophet to accept Islam. Moreover, one can ask what is the different between Jews & Christian? The answer is, the Jews do not testify that Jesus is the Prophet of God, and therefore, they rejected the Bible. And the same goes when asking what is the different between Jews, Christian, and Moslem (True Moslem)? The answer is the Testifying ?The Shahada?.
By doing so, you are not making differences or favoring prophet Mohamed over the others; the favoring is to love or like one over the other, or believe that one is better than the other, or to believe that the Quran is better than the other books. I do not believe that Prophet Mohamed is better than any prophet nor loved by God more than the others. My Love is For God, and my acceptance for the prophets is because my God order me to do so, and when I say ?Peace be upon them? is because God ordered me to say so.
Also, ther are many verses where God says that your intention is what matters, and God knows our intention and he will judge our actions based on it.Peace

Salam,
Well written post, Belalhammad.
I have a better understanding of your position now.
I understand why you include Muhammad?s name with the Shahada based on what you outlined above. However, I cannot find an instance in the Quran where the shahada actually includes ?wa Muhammad rasool Allah.?
It is this reason that it is my opinion that it is not a requirement to include the statement. On the other hand, yes, accepting Muhammad as God?s messenger is required.
And I see your point that vocalizing this would be affirmation of this acceptance.
However we are also told to accept all the messengers and we do not vocalize their names when reciting the shahada.
It would be impossible to name all of God?s messengers based only on the Quran anyway
because there are some that are mentioned in the Quran and some that are not. Also, if you are reading the Quran and making an honest effort to obey the laws set forth in the Quran,
then obviously you accept Muhammad and the rest of the messengers as God?s messengers.
That?s a good point.
I will say that it would make sense that ?wa Muhammad rasool Allah? be included
when talking to another person in order for them to understand that one is Muslim.Of course, once should be sufficient.
? By doing so, you are not making differences or favoring prophet Mohamed over the others; the favoring is to love or like one over the other, or believe that one is better than the other, or to believe that the Quran is better than the other books. I do not believe that Prophet Mohamed is better than any prophet nor loved by God more than the others.
I can accept that.
But here?s an analogy
If a person has four children and repeatedly refers to one over the others, does that not mean that this one is called to mind more often and perhaps favored? Favored by way that the one child is called to mind more often in speech and thought?

I agree with you, and thus, I try to mention all of them by saying "and all your prophets that you mention in the Quran and what you did not mention".
I never focus on prophets when praying, but I focus only on who I'm praying for, My Lord.

My reading of Al-Quran doesn't conform with what your saying. I believe muslim to be of those who submit to Allahs laws and doesn't necessarily mean accepting his messengers as those are classed as mumins. Belief in One God, good deeds and the Last Day are quoted as those who follow this have nothing to fear(262 & 6511) so from this you can see no where in Al-Quran a shahadah has to be read. Islam isn't a cult group you have to enter with a formal declaration and is definitely not supported in Al-Quran.

Salam 2Pac-Notts,

(Free-Minds Translation) Piety is not to turn your faces towards the east and the west, but piety is one who believes in God and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Scripture, and the prophets, and he gives money out of love to the near relatives, and the orphans, and the needy and the wayfarer, and those who ask, and to free the slaves, and he holds the contact-method, and he contributes towards betterment; and those who keep their pledges when they make a pledge, and those who are patient in the face of good and bad and when in despair. These are the ones who have been truthful, and they are the righteous.
2285
(Free-Minds Translation)The messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord. And the believers, all who believe in God, and His angels, and His Scriptures, and His messengers "We do not differentiate between any of His messengers"; and they said "We hear and obey, forgive us O Lord, and to you is our destiny."

(Free-Minds Translation) And those who believed in God and His messengers are the truthful ones. And the martyrs at their Lord will have their reward and their light. As for those who disbelieved and rejected Our revelations, they are the dwellers of Hell.
A Muslim is a mumin.
muslim= someone who is peaceful/whole
mumin=someone who is strong/firm or figuritavely faithful or posessing faith.Salam,
