The most common misconception about Islam these days amongst non-Muslims is the violence against non-muslims/pagans in chpt 9. It is easily refuted but then again, given some threads... I bet you could condense your article into a few sentences with verse references that deal with the logical continuation of said refutation. The 72 virgins thing is also quite hot. Some of what Nadeem posted is also applicable, like the shaking hands, honour killings etc. What Samia posted about Eve and the rib I remember one Jehovah's witness asking me.

I guess I should have clarified I mainly meant misconceptions about Islam amongst non-muslims.
How will you deal with misconceptions about Islam amongst non-Muslims...... when many muslims are actively using these very misconceptions as law in Islam?

I will deal with it by informing them (hopefully in an alternative way). They can then compare good info with bad info, rather than just having bad info with nothing to compare it to.

Ahhhhhhh, good thing to do actually. Then brother nadeem has listed many topics that would apply because I think many non-muslims have those misconceptions... at least a good many of them.
Here is a list of things I have been asked by non-muslims
Why can a husband beat his wife?
Why is a man able to have have more than one wife?
Why are women being oppressed?
How can they force marriage on their children?
Why are honor killings allowed?
Why do men have to grow a beard?
Why do women have to cover themselves completely?
If statues are not accceptable then why do muslims pray toward a brick building?
How can we respect a man who married a 9 year old girl?
Why does the son let his mother control his life after he becomes an adult?Those are the ones I can remember at the moment.

First, they have to be interested in the topic, for any reason, perhaps a new friend, or bumping into a website like this one, or a sunni site, or some news on the media, something that attracts the attention and leads to the interest, because a lot of people know nothing about Islam, as my case, I just knew what I had learnt at school that had nothing to do with what I have been discovering later, from the day I realised muslims believed in hell, and that discovery prompted me to investigate more.
As a non muslim, my main misconceptions were the women subjugation to men, and the mistrust of muslims towards non muslims.

This article goes on to say how the God of Islam is the best makr and tries to tarnish Islam based on this word and it's use in Al Quran when it is used to describe Allah. The word means to plot or scheme and is also used in Al Quran to describe people who try to deceive. This is a doozy. The author is doing serious harm with this article. I think that a good response to it is needed. All we need is another act of tom foolery over weak semantics to cause more misunderstandg in an already misunderstood faith. Please check the article and let me know what you think. I posted here for Wakas and his research but I will also post it as it's own thread somewhere else.

how about the misconception, that muslims imagine they have a divine claim to the temple mount/al aqsa or that israel is occupied by jewish people against the wishes of god who wants muslims to prove their faith by either lording over them in that land or ridding them from it. here is a link to the <a href="http//frontpagemag.com/articles/Read.aspx?GUID=134C7CDA-8B3A-44A2-AC6C-792B0B25F0EE">now in/famous frontpage interview</a> with Prof. Khaleel Mohammed who refutes this argument using the quran only. great interview. im planning on putting together a thread on this issue soon also.

Thanks for the Shabbir link and the one by Edip. I have read both and some of the content can be used.
As an aside two points with Shabbir's work, his dedication (I am assuming it is prophet Muhammad?) because he states he was the greatest human of all time, and then in the actual work, he clearly implies that The Quran says he was the best example for mankind. This statement is nowhere to be found in The Quran. You may wish to mention this to him.

I think the Quran specifically states that the Children of Israel were blessed in a land.That by no means gives the present state of Palestine to present day Jews.
Or does anyone have any other Quranic verse that specifically allows the takeover of Palestinian land?
Now I am not supporting any "muslim" claim over Temple Mount. I do not think that the mix of people's in the land of Palestine should have been raped by fascism. This land was a diverse land populated by Arabs, Jews, Druze and others.
