If light is composed of PHOTONS, how did photons reaching higher speed make light slow ?? rotfl
Ok,,, serious now. So, what the scientists demonstrated was that light can infact travel faster than the constant speed that we know of ?

------------------ Student of AllahNo, the speed of light in a vacuum is still about 3*10^8 m/s. It is the photons and not the light that demonstrated the increased velocity. However, it is significant that the "speed limit" of the speed of light in a vacuum was broken--and not just by a little bit.
Want to know how light could conceivably go faster? As a thought experiment, take a sheet of paper and call it one light year across the widest part. Now, fold the paper the widest way so that the edges are touching. What was once one light year is now nearly instant. The only way (ISA!) to make light travel faster in a vacuum is to curve/bend/modify space.
We already knew that some subatomic particles could travel faster than the phase velocity of light in certain mediums--Cherenkov radiation is an example of this.
May ALLAH see fit to grant us all an increase in useful knowledge.

Salam Hadi,
Well, the bending of space itself is very old idea and have been waiting for its practical demonstration for a long time now. I wasnt interested in that, what I was asking about is something moving faster under same condition. Not when the race track is bent for the racer. That is an unfair way to compare them I believe. I remember watching this professor talking about creating his time machine which is equiped with lasers. He wishes to warp time with that and send signals between two different points in the history of the universe.
Never looked into Cherenkov radiation. Thanks for pointing it out
