I am unsure as to what you mean by this.
This is what I learned from Wikipedia about Ho'oponopono
Ho'oponopono is a Hawaiian word for a form of family or personal therapy.
Practitioners believe it is an ancient Hawaiian practice. To date, the earliest documentation of a practice called ho'oponopono is from the Hawaiian language newspaper, Kuokoa in 1863. Mary Kawena Pukui recorded her experiences and observations from her childhood (born 1895) in her 1958 book. (Handy & Pukui), as well as her scholarly study Nana i ke Kumu with psychiatrist Dr. Haertig.
Pukui described it as a practice of extended family members meeting to try to "make right" broken family relations ("making right" is the literal translation of the Hawaiian term). Traditional ho?oponopono sessions include "prayer, discussion, confession, repentance, mutual restitution, and forgiveness." (Cody)
In the 1980s, Morrnah Simeona developed what she called an updated and streamlined version of ho'oponopono that is practiced by the individual alone. Her practice continues to be taught by her students in Hawai'i, including Ramsay Taum, and Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D. According to Hew Len, ho'oponopono is a Hawaiian healing process based on the principles of total responsibility, taking responsibility for everyone's actions. He says if one would take complete responsibility for one's life, then everything one would see, hear, taste, touch, or in any way experience is one's responsibility because it is in one's life. Total Responsibility advocates that everything exists as a projection from inside the human being. The problem isn't with our external reality, it is with ourselves and to change our reality, we would have to change ourselves.

Can you expand on/correct the wikipedia and add clarification as to what Ho'oponopono is?
What do you mean by "cleaning?" I am assuming it is the same as we find in the scriptures.
And, if "cleaning" (by the definition you are using) is the same as found in the scriptures, then why not use a word or group of words from scripture?

So, let's construct a scenario.
Someone shouts at you You m..... f..... ass...... and any rage with it.
What most People would do?
Anything but remaining in Communion with The GOD, and Taking Responsibility.
How?
In my case, i would notice everything, without being moved from what i'm noticing.
Then immediately, turn to THe GOD and Say My ALLMighty, whatever is inside me, that is causing me to have this Experience, Please Do Forgive me, i am Sorry, i Love You GOD, Thank You.
Continuously.
This is it !
People are trained to look out of themselves to find Solutions.
The Solution is the Cleaning of Anything that is inside you, and you don't have to know what it is, so that that kind of Experience NEVER repeats again.
Notice, programmed people for problems, have the same kind of problems over and over. Because they don't take the responsibility to change themselves so GOD does Not Change them. It is the Simplest Explanation from The Word of The GOD of ALL Creation.
Another Example, an e-mail comes to me, to which as i read, is less than inspirational, there is no Presence of The GOD there, and also there is some critique/dissatisfaction.
As i read, i am aware of my body, and if any Emotion shows up that disturbs me. Or Anything that My Eyes Witness, and My Ears hear, that is Less than Inspiration, i CLEAN.
Yes With Cleaning i mean, Purification, the Same The GOD Teaches us.
And yes, you can Use Any Verse from Any Holy Texture, to Ask Repentance to The GOD, depending on the Circumstance you find yourself in.
And The GOD Puts People in Circumstances that TOTALLY Match their Content of their Heart and thus their personal Beliefs.
Ho-oponopono folks, many times make the mistakes, because most of them are in the Path to find the Word of The GOD.
One Who Knows the Word of the ALLMighty, and Cleans without Stopping, no doubt, Will, GOD Willing find the Paradise of This World.
And That is Having the Presence of THe GOD. 24/7.
