What is everyones take on Tattoos?

Peace
I was wondering about what people thought about tattoos based on the Qur'an. For example someone got a tattoo of the Qur'anic shahadah on their back would that be considered self-harm or a proclamation of faith? Points made with reference to the Qur'an would be appreciated along with objective opinions.

Peace to all,
Im generally against tatooes since the majority seem to be a permanent expression of a temporary emotion, which to me shows a lack of stability or self control in the person. I also think that the proclamation of faith should be between you and God only , since thats all that is going to matter on the day of judgement, but I guess it wouldnt hurt either to let others know what you believe, as long as your willing to explain what it means to the curious in peaceful ways and with beautiful words.

Tattoos don't hurt anyone, so they aren't wrong. There are no negative effects of getting a tattoo. In fact, it's a way of expressing yourself (which is good), and it's an industry which lets people earn a living (which is also good).
So getting a tattoo is a harmless personal decision. I personally wouldn't get one because I don't want to stain my body for life and I might end up regretting it later. I might get a small one if I find words or a picture that means enough to me.
