It was recently brought to my attention that word Jihad and it's derivatives are almost always used in the context of war in the Quran.
I didn't believe it until I looked at the facts.

To get the full context you'll have to read back a few verses for each verse given.
Eg.
2218 Starts from 2116 Fighting is prescribed .....
3142 Starts from 3140 If a wound hath touched you
495 obviously about war
535 Starts from 533and so forth.
This is isn't a problem, I'm comfortable with the orginal meaning.
Aggression is forbidden no matter what jihad means.Peace.

I see nothing wrong with that because the symbolisms of the inner struggle are metaphorized as physical war.

Do you know what a metaphor is and how they are constructed?
Not really. I treat metaphors, similitudes, allegories, and all symbolisms pretty much the same, so whichever one of the words fits, thats what I meant D
Your statement shows that you don't. Once you learn what a metaphor is you'll see your mistake.

What is your analysis of those verses that led you to make such a comment?
The God does not command that we go around shedding blood. The God gives us the logical argument, the WORD, to use against the people, not swords.
Perhaps you're denying that the Prophet and his companions were in a real war. In that case you've lost the will to reason.
I don't even know who the Prophet and his companions were, so how could I verify if they were in a war or not?
But the message, as it applies to EVERYONE EQUALLY, indicates that the internal struggle (jihad) is always going on.
There is a verse where the messenger is in the rear calling you back, we see the truthfulness of this verse all over this forum. Many of us are moving too fast, ahead of the truth, we need to come back down and re think some of our understandings.
Because a group of people who gave themselves the title "MUSLIM" were fighting wars in history, it does not follow that this was the prophet and his companions.

What do you think happens when there is physical war?
Jihad is outward struggle, it is visible action.
An action where you put yourself at risk is jihad.
Where you risk your life and property.Everything that happens outwardly starts inwardly, so the struggle begins inside. That is why wer are told over and over and over again about how Iblis rejected the command to prostrate.
For example declaring in public your faith is Jihad, because you are at risk from the opposition.
Agreed, but that is not the whole picture.
Inner struggle is not jihad - infact jihad is the way reslove inner struggle.
The God states (1311) that He does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in thier Minds(nafs). So I have to disagree with you.
Learn from history - May day for example is a classic example of Jihad.
The examples in THIS reading are sufficient for this debate. Please tell me how you understand 1311 which I gave above?
