    Peace to all,

Good question belal,,, i think it has to do with people who are hypocrits, the ones who say they believe but dont live like they do, the ones who dont do good deeds or treat people according to Gods guidance. So they may claim they are believers but there actions betray them.

      Peace Kurt and all;
How about if I say that these people say that they believe in Allah and the Last Day, but actully, they have different pictuer of who is Allah and What are the discribtion of the Last Day. Such a picture (understanding) that is in their Memory regarding Allah (attributs and how He roles his Kingdom) and the Last Day (discribtions) is different from what are discribed in the Quran (or in the true Bible and Torah); it is an understanding that are based on their man made books and their Religious Scholars lies. Thus, according to the Verses, they do not believe in the True Allah and Last Day, rather they believe in Man Made Picture of Allah and the Last Day, but they do not Realize (brainwashed by their Books and Scholars). They are Lost (Astray). Please note Chapter one

      (&#65279
The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, Those whose (portion) is not wrath and who go not astray. (7)
      What do you think?

,,,, I think its a natural response for people to say they belive in God and the last Day... ( i,e.. ask almost anyone and they will say they believe). But most people dont know God or the limits set by God or believe foreal.

( im throwin this in the air )

4914 The Nomads said ?We believe.? Say ?You have not believed; but you should say ?We have submitted?, for belief has not yet entered into your hearts.? If you obey God and His messenger, He will not put any of your works to waste. God is Forgiver, Merciful.

82 The believers are those whom, when God is mentioned, their hearts reverence; and when His revelations are recited to them, it increases their faith; and they put their trust in their Lord.
83 They uphold the communion, and from Our provisions to them they spend.
84 These are the true believers; they will have grades with their Lord and a forgiveness and a generous provision.

874 And those who have believed and emigrated and strived in the cause of God, and those who sheltered and supported, these are truly the believers. They will have a forgiveness and a generous provision.
875 And those who believed afterwards and emigrated and strived with you, then they are from you. And the relatives by birth are also supportive of one another in God?s record. God is aware of all things.

2447 And they say ?We believe in God and in the messenger, and we obey,? but a group of them turn away after that. These are not believers.

4915 Believers are those who believe in God and His messenger, then they became without doubt, and they strive with their money and their lives in the cause of God. These are the truthful ones.

582 Those among you who estrange their wives by saying to them ?You are as my mother.? They can never be as their mothers, for their mothers are the women who gave birth to them. Indeed, they are uttering what is strange and a falsehood. And God is Pardoner, Forgiver.
583 Those who had estranged their wives in this manner, then they do again repeat it, they shall free a slave before they have sexual contact between them. This is to enlighten you. God is well aware of everything you do.
584 If he cannot find any, then he shall fast two consecutive months before any sexual contact between them. If he cannot, then he shall feed sixty poor people. That is so you would believe in God and His messenger. And these are the limits set by God. The disbelievers have incurred a painful retribution.

          Peace,
You are discribing believers, which I agree, but those who think they are believers of Allah and the Last Day are whom we are trying to define.

The importance of this is all the religious Sects Claim they are belivers of Allah and The Last Day, including me and you, thus are me and you not brainwashed or we are in the right path.

          Peace

We are on the right path... An upright system,

The Qurans defines who it is that is guided and who is astray ( brainwashed ) and the things they say and do.

You caint recongnize them by there looks but you can recongnize them by their speech.

I am guided because I keep the prayers, ( the Quran says those who do this they are the guided ones)....ect...

Believing in God or/and the hereafter does not mean believe they exist. Some people (the ones you ask about) do believe that there's a God and there's a JD, but that's all. They do not respect or abide with God's commands, and behave as if there's no JD when they will be judged and punished. They are satisfied that once they say (there's no God but God and that Muhammed is His messenger) Fire will not touch them.
Compare them to those who believe that the quraan is the word of God (believe in the existence of what's called quraan which is revealed by God) but hardly know anything about it and extract laws that contradict its laws and follow their man-made laws, ignoring God's laws on the same matters.

I am not getting something. Both classes seem to me to be defective in terms of faith, the first for lack of faith and the second for lack of knowledge or discernment.

                  Peace All,

To be all on the same track, I will explain who are the three Kinds that God mentioned in the begning of Chapter two and why God did that.

I believe Chapter one is the Chapter that every one who reads (if he understand what he reads) asks God to give him one thing, and help him to stay away from two things, as follow

Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds (2) Most Gracious, Most Merciful (3) Master of the, Day of Judgment. (4) Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek. (5) Show us the straight way. (6) The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, Those whose (portion) is not wrath and who go not astray. (7)

We ask for the Straight Path (6)
We ask to stay away from the Path of those whom gained God's Anger (7)
We ask to stay away from the path of those whom are Astray (7)

In the begining of Chapter two, God Answer us by showing us the Frist request as Follow
This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah. (2) Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them. (3) And who believe in the Revelation sent to thee, and sent before thy time, and (in their hearts) have the assurance of the Hereafter. (4) They are on (true guidance), from their Lord and it is these who will prosper. (5)

                  The Second request
As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe. (6) Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing And on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur). (7)

The Third request (my Topic thread)
Of the people there are some who say "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" but they do not believe. ( Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realize (it) not! (9)

                  Peace,

This is if im understandin u correct...

                  What you thinkin?

                  I will answer you, by refering you to the first 5 verses in Chapter 2;

Believing in God or/and the hereafter does not mean believe they exist. Some people (the ones you ask about) do believe that there's a God and there's a JD, but that's all. Peace Samia,
You mentioned two kinds of people, who do you think is the type that matches the third mentioned type in Chapter two, and why?
Please note that these type is refusing to believe as the first type (the one that is mentioned in the frist 5 verses of Chapter 2) believe

When it is said to them "Believe as the others believe " they say "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, buy they do not know. (2-13)

Also, please note that these type say that they believe in Allah and the Last Day, but they are not believers of Allah and the Last Day, according to God; Why?
Please note that when a human believe in something, he would have a Memory regarding that thing; thus, do you think that these type has a wrong Memory (wrong picture) regarding the Allah and the Last Day that they believe in, and therefore, they are not believer of the True Allah and the True Last Day.

                  Peace

                    Peace all

In Chapter two, God describes a Third Kind of People (after the 1st that was described in verses 1 to 5, and the 2nd in 6 and 7) as follow

My Question is how somebody says that he believes in Allah and the Last Day is a Disbeliever of Allah and the Last Day?
I have an answer that I will share with you through this discussion when you share with me your views.

                    Peace

                    Salaam

My understanding of the above verses is about those who put up false appearances and say that they believe in Allah and that they will be judged, but only to gain the confidence of those who honestly believe it, deep in their hearts they only think of themselves.
In fact they are deluded as they have taken the world around them to be their god and their concern is only to APPEAR virtuous to people for worldy gain and with time they start to think that they are really good as they appear.
They are feeling good about this lie as they believe they will get away with this act and that they will not be accountable to any one and the act becomes part of their life so much so that they think they can deceive all including creator, if there is one.
However when they will be brought in front of Allah(swt) they will realise that they deceived none but themselves.
                    peace

                      Peace,
Those kind of people you are talking about is the kind that is discribed in verse (2-6 & 7). The reason I'm saying that is you have said they do not believe in God nor his books; but the one I'm talking about (in verses 2-8 to 19) is a kind that believes in Allah and the Last Day, and they believe that the Straight Path the the True Believer follow (2-2 to 5) is wrong, and thus, they are rejecting it (by adding or deleting). They believe in Allah and the Last Day using different attributes and discribtions that are different from what were revealed in the Book, thus, they are not believers of the True Allah and the True Last Day.

Please let me know what do you think about what I wrote above and below (if it makes sense or not, and why?)
                      Peace

Please read (2- again it says Of the people there are some who say "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" but they do not believe
This sura is not referring to kind of people who say that they believe I understand this is about those who do not believe but show to be believers and stand on edge so that if there is actually God than they can get away with their acting .. they have so much faith in their deception they think they can deceive God too.
The above two surah 2-8,9 appear to say what is said in 6 Surah Number 4, Ayah Number 142 about hypocrites that they do not remember Allah, except a little.
The hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but Allah is deceiving them. When they stand up to pray, they stand up lazily, showing off to the people and do not remember Allah, except a little,
I will give you some examples of my understaning of third king here
Exp 1. I came across someone who was very particular about eating only halal meat but his source of earning was not halal as he used to take cash out without declaring and I asked ?why do you insist on eating halal meat when the money you use to buy this halal meat is not halal. Buying the meat you think is halal with haraam earnings actually makes the meat haraam. Shouldn?t you concentrate more on earning halal and then think of halal meat or just eat any meant? Typically I was ignored as i was going too much into the nitty gritty of things.
Exp 2. A proud Christian plumber came to do work at my place and he was showing off how he works on Sunday free for church, but otherwise he refuses to work on a Sunday. But this plumber did not finish his job as promised or at least not as I expected from a religious man. He was limping and asking for sympathy for him as he could not lift buckets but when I told him i have a big lead pipes lying around in the garden he quietly took it
The third example is of a Jewish guy; I bought some stuff from him from ebay and was very impressed to see that he had religious symbols on his house entrance and Shalom written there, but when it came to delivering his goods he was not fair. He gave such a hard time to his builders which in turned ruined my purchase but he insisted on charging full money for faulty goods.
So I think it is about these types who have a sort of belief but put up a big show thinking God will judge them by human standards.
Please do let me know if I make any sense.
                        peace

                          Peace Farida, and all

                          Salaam belalhammad

Please read (2- again it says Of the people there are some who say "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" but they do not believe

Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realize (it) not! (2-9)

As you can note these people do not realize that they do not believe (2-. They are brainwashed by their other books that were written by humans, which cancel out the True Book.

This sura is not referring to kind of people who say that they believe I understand this is about those who do not believe but show to be believers and stand on edge so that if there is actually God than they can get away with their acting .. they have so much faith in their deception they think they can deceive God too.

These are the disblievers who disbelieve that Quran or Torah or Bible are not the words of God; those were discribed by 2-6 & 7. Please note that there is a main difference between the two types, which is one type believes that the Quran, Bible, and Torah are the books of God but they do not follow and choose to follow their other books that were written by scholars, and the other does not recogize the Books at all.

These type is the type that is mentioned in 2-8 & 9; as I told you, they believe in the Books, thus, they pray. But when praying, they do not understand what they recite (from Quran), because God increased their ignorance

In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves). (2-10)

Please do let me know if I make any sense.
                          peace

These three examples will depend on what are in the heart of the three mentioned people; if they believe what they did from wrong is wrong and they try to ask for forgiveness ( True believers); or they think what they are doing is right according to their other religious teachings and they will not ask for forgiveness (the kind that is mentioned in 28 & 9); or they do not believe in the Verses that teach them not to do that (they will not ask for forgivness) (the type that is mentioned in 2-6 & 7)

I hope I'm not confusing you or anybody

                          Peace

                            Peace all

In Chapter two, God describes a Third Kind of People (after the 1st that was described in verses 1 to 5, and the 2nd in 6 and 7) as follow

                            (&#65279

                            (&#65279
Of the people there are some who say "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" but they do not believe (2-
Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realize not! (9)

My Question is how somebody says that he believes in Allah and the Last Day is a Disbeliever of Allah and the Last Day?
I have an answer that I will share with you through this discussion when you share with me your views.

                            Peace

If they willingly try to deceive Allah and believers by saying what they don't really believe in, they are hypocrites. If they say what they believe in then there is no question of willingly deceiving anyone thus not hypocrites. The verse is clearly about the munafiqeen and their purpose is deceiving by lip service.

fain /fe{I}n/ adv. (old use) willingly or with pleasure.

to hide or conceal willingly, to pretend sth while concealing the contrary.. etc..

                            peace

                              Peace,
Let me ask you question; if somebody (one of the Moslem Sects) says that he believes in Allah and the Last day in a way that is discribed in other books that were written by humans, which are different from the way that are discribed in the Quran (which he claims that he believes in willingly). And when you tell him your way of believing is wrong and you should follow the Straight Path (2-1 to 5), he would say that such way of believing is for the Fools who do not understand the Quran (he believes that Quran is not enough or the prophets had other revelation).

When it is said to them "Believe as the others believe" they say "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, buy they do not know. (2-13)

What would you call that person? Because he is the one that God discribed in verse 2-8 to 20 (and in more than 95% of the Quran). I call him Hypocrate because he says what he does not do (he said that he believes in Quran but he does not follow)

Please note that my answer to my main Question is if you want to be a believer of the True Allah and the Last Day, you have to believe on them based on what has been revealed in Quran; and if one choose to Add over what in the Book, he or she will be believing in the Wrong God and the Last Day.
                              Peace

Yes, they will be professing to believe when you ask them, but their concept of Allah and the last day is different than ours because they also follow guidance other than Allah which distorts their minds by adding/subtracting to al-kitab of Allah.
                                Therefore they decieve themselves.

I agree that many people do not understand the unlimited power of God. They try and limit him not realising he can do anything he wishes.

691 And they did not appreciate God as He deserves to be appreciated, for they said ?God has never sent down anything to any human being.? Say ?Who then has sent down the Scripture which Moses had come with, a light and a guidance for the people? You treat it just as paper, you show some of it and conceal much, and you were taught what neither you nor your fathers knew.? Say ?God has.? Then leave them playing in their folly.

Let me give you an example of such people who a) believe in Allah, b) believe in the Last Day, and c) they follow books that were written by humans

(7 Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say "This is from Allah" to traffic with it for a miserable price! Woe to them for what their hands do write and for the gain they make thereby. (79) And they say "The fire shall not touch us but for a few numbered days"; Say "Have ye taken a promise from Allah, for He never breaks His promise? Or is it that ye say of Allah what ye do not know?" (2-80)

Please note that the bolded words are the same as in the thrid type (the one under question)

When they meet those who believe, they say "We believe" but when they are alone with their evil ones they say "We are really with you we; (were) only jesting. (2-14)

Please note how they are deceving the believers.

These people that God talks about (2-80)as an example of the thrid type (2-8 to 20) are a Sect from Jews; therefore, anybody do what they did he becomes from the Third Type.

I hope I'm making sense confused

I agree that many people do not understand the unlimited power of God. They try and limit him not realising he can do anything he wishes.

                                        Peace aalmakto

I agree with you; these people are the same as God discribed in 2-8 & 9.

An example of such people are the Jews (not all, but a Sect) who are following their man made books and ignoring the Torah; and thus, they disblieved the Quran that came to tell them that they should stop following the man made books and believe in the Quran, the Torah, and the Bible.

                                        (&#65279

No just estimate of Allah do they make when they say "Nothing doth Allah send down to man (by way of revelation)" Say "Who then sent down the Book which Moses brought? a light and guidance to man but ye make it into (separate) sheets for show, while ye conceal much (of its contents) therein were ye taught that which ye knew not neither ye nor your fathers." Say "Allah (sent it down)" then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (6-91)

The third type that I'm debating speaks about all the wicked "People of the Books" (Moslem Sects, Christain Sects, and Jews Sects) and not the ones who disblieve the existance of God and the Last day.

                                        Peace

I am still learninga and as far as I can recall reading they try to deceive the believers but they think they succeeded in doing that but Allah reveals their acts to the believers and the believers are one party, they recognise their fellow believers as well as the hypocrites.

The third type that I'm debating speaks about all the wicked "People of the Books" (Moslem Sects, Christian Sects, and Jews Sects) and not the ones who disblieve the existance of God and the Last day.

Is is same as the examples I quoted in my earlier reply post 10?
