Going Hypocrite-Hunting makes people lose focus on their own faults, which is more important. God will bring everyone to light eventually.

    Peace

    Salaam
I think its is not hypocrite hunting but taking precautions against those who insinuate themselves among believers pretending to be one of them but will not stand and defend believers if put to the test. All their efforts are designed to divide, sow discord, slander and spy. We are warned against those and Prophet Mohammad received cautions about the hypocrites who were lurking around him. Our duty is to recognise them and take precautions but not passing judgment.

As I see it, detecting hypocrites is as reasonable as detecting thieves or criminals. We may not focus on them, but they can do a lot of harm, and even without focusing on them we can know the tricks they use so that we are not robbed or harmed. Also, trying to know and understand a phenomenon, hypocrisy or any other, can help us avoid it in others and and avoid it in ourselves.

In non virtual life, avoiding hypocrites can save one a lot of suffering and trouble. They are not inocuous. Anybody who has interacted with such kind of person knows the harm they can do.

In a virtual setting like this forum, what is the harm that hypocrytes could do? Obviously any deed on the forum must be by virtue of words or pictures. We wouldn't know who gives one million to those in need and helps in any other way or who talks a lot and doesn't bother apart from pretty words.

So it would be a matter of what can be done with words?

If we go by what the media are today we can say that by mere words you can make any problem disappear from the face of the earth in such a way that it will never be solved because it will be effectively ignored. Or you can make problems appear where there is none, or there is a situation completely different to the one portrayed.

So what can a hypocrite do in a forum?

I for one would say that they may restrict freedom. There may be a fear to tread certain subjects because we are wary of the sting or of the manipulation of non sincere people, sometimos even without being aware of our feelings, or we may refrain from it because we do not want to cause unpleasantness that will make other people react unfavourably to us or the the subject at hand, whereas the hypocrite may be looking just for that kind of result, so that his unwanted subjects may effectively be drawn out of discusi?n and hecan impose his aims on the whole even without the whole being conscious of this.

So in fact, we may be doing somebody?s bidding and banning our freedom of expression simple for lack of capacity to analyse our own reactions and finding the way to contend with such situation and the mental constrains it represents. The hypocrite mainly works in our mind. It worms in it.

So yes, no hunting, but a lot of analysing and knowing why we do or not do this or that, by what processes we react one way or another, make to act one way or another, what are our motives, why are we putty in somebody else's hands or why we try ourselves to make putty out of others.

There is of course the politically correct. Is that a hypocritical attainment, based on the ability of groups of people to be sheep happily?

UIT the politically correct we look for approval. There are other subjects which we may avoid not because we want approval, but because we fear not only disaproval, but ostracism, or being classified as outsiders, lepers or nuts or whatever. Simply it is not proper to deal with those questions or subjects or to deal with them in ways deprecated by the Holy Unseen and All Powerful Church of Manipulation and Deceit.

      Salaam

It appears, on this site, only you and I are concerned about detecting hypocrites and I believe we already got some idea about them.
However I would like to ask the moderators of free-minds how they give their rating? I have a feeling, as long as a member keeps on posting they get titles like ?Wise one?. No one gives a toss if their arguments create doubts and division, so long as they do sunni, shia bashing its fine. I don?t see this as much different from the Sunni gatherings in the mosques where, I know for a fact, non believing women wrapped up in hejabs spy on them and are welcomed with a smile and..'Salaam sister' etc. No one is bothered if they are really believers, as long as they are wearing the hejab its okey.

You're wrong if you think moderators "sit" down and decide who gets what. Otherwise, they will give themselves all the "wise one" sign. It's computer generated. If you are so much concerned about knowing, click on "members" and go through all of them (only 74 pages while I am typing this post). Look at each one's number of posts and title. And voila! You get your formula. Not only that, but you will find a group sharing the same title and who have completely different opinions on many issues. Try your "Wise One Burnout" and your feeling was right, it's all about number of posts, or if you want it sold to you in a better wrapping, an indicator of the contribution and commitment of the member to the forum. Why didn't you follow your feeling all the way?

How is this compared to sunni gathering in a mosque? Why are you bashing sunnis and veiled women? Remember, it's merely about numbers, not content.
And my last question How is this related to hypocrites and hypocricy? Who is spying on what? Moderators spying on number of posts?

If you stay close to the Qur'an, hypocrites cannot harm you. There is nothing you can really do against people, God knows if they are telling the truth. At the end of the day a person chooses to be putty in someone hand's. Its not a hypnotic process. Everyone has their own understanding which is never ever the same. So as long as one is comfortable in one's understanding, whilst willing to learn, you cannot be manipulated.

I do not understand the part about Political correctness.

              Salaam Samia,

Why didn't you follow your feeling all the way?

Because I had some important questions for moderators.

How is this compared to sunni gathering in a mosque?

Like the sunni gathering this site too is a place of gathering, for free-mind?s members.
I know for a fact from Sunni gatherings in the mosque that wearing hejab (an order to cover heads from hadiths) is considered a symbol of piety.
In case of free minds you confirmed that the greater number of posts is a symbol of wisdom and quality (title plus stars)

Why are you bashing sunnis and veiled women?

What makes you think that is what i am doing? Do you expect me to teach you what is actually bashing sunnis and veiled women and what is simply revealing a fact?

Remember, it's merely about numbers, not content.

Yes Mam! I would remember that it?s the quantity not the quality that gives you your title.

And my last question How is this related to hypocrites and hypocricy?

Simple it?s hypocritical to call an idiot ?Wise One? just because he generated lots of posts and moderators should be paying attention to this computer generated lie. Otherwise, what you say you do for this site as moderators is not actually what you do. Understand?

-[ By the way this was not your last questions you have two more for me

              Who is spying on what?

I for one would not like to live in Cuckoo Land I would keep my eyes and ear open about it.
My question to you now Do you really believe that no one has access to the IP addresses of the freeminder?s?

Moderators spying on number of posts?

Why are you getting so upset did I touch a raw nerve?
As you have read correctly I understand how computer generated rating is done on this site and I am protesting against these "Star" ratings.
This reminds me of ?Little Britain?; generate a number of posts and the computer says "Wise One " even if the ?wise one? is the complete opposite rotfl

              Regards

No. I am expecting you to expect others to believe also that they are revealing facts, not bashing. Any bashing without evidence is not tolerated and the basher receives a notice or a warning.

Of course anyone with a forum, a homepage or a website would have the tools to access IP addresses. What's the problem with that? If you do not want your IP accessed by anybody, don't get one in the first place.

Why are you getting so upset did I touch a raw nerve?

No need to get personal. You addressed your question/s to the moderators. My question was sincere. In fact I could not understand the whole thing about hypocricy and hypocrites, and your last post confused matters even further.

Honestly, how would it be if the moderators were given the authority to categorize members according to their intelligence, and give them titles accordingly? Wouldn't you protest?

One question to farida. Why is this important? If someone is a hypocrite, it's best to avoid that person, and if you find that person 'misleading' a more inexperienced person then put up a hyperlink to the 'hypocrite's' previous posts to prove your point. Isn't that all that's necessary? Correct me if i am wrong.

These are just labels understood by everyone

brickwall This worries me most that your computer will end up giving me five stars hypocritical title for all this?
I will do something about it when it comes to that stage. However please remember I will always be a learner eager to get wiser, I will never be a ?wise one?.

Maybe you don?t want me to be here in the first place.

No need to get personal. You addressed your question/s to the moderators. My question was sincere. In fact I could not understand

My question was to the moderator and you replied so I replied back; what is personal about that? Where did I ask you anything personal?

the whole thing about hypocricy and hypocrites, and your last post confused matters even further.

See this shows despite your having 5 stars and the ?wise? title you have a lot to learn about this subject.

I do not think anyone else, apart from you, is concerned about these labels.

Have you taken a poll about it?

I am glad now you know it's the computer, not the moderators.

Please re-read my post I never said its moderator generated, I wanted moderators to take note of this false computer generated information.

Honestly, how would it be if the moderators were given the authority to categorize members according to their intelligence, and give them titles accordingly? Wouldn't you protest?

To be honest with you there should be no such titles but simply the computer revealing the number of posts and generating stars accordingly. To my simple mind it is as misleading a word as the common interpretation of words like Quran, Muslim and Ramadan, even though I too use these worlds as they have become symbols of certain meanings.
In the end I would say this much that I have no desire to derail this thread or win arguments with you.

                      God bless

                      Salaam Sarah,
It is very important to discuss, understand and explain what hypocrisy is and that one needs be wary of hypocrites.(Munafiqoon) otherwise why would God discuss hypocrites in such detail in the Qur?an?

it's best to avoid that person,

You cannot avoid Munafiqoon; even Prophet Mohammad could not avoid them, but he and the followers of the book are informed of the tactics used by the hypocrites. And as long as we follow the guidance from God and seek His protection we would not come to harm but God ask?s us to guard ourselves. For example, even though, during wars believers have faith in victory and protection from God they are still asked to keep their arms nearby and take turns when praying. Something like this first tie your camel then leave it to God, so first make sure you are aware of what hypocrisy involves and who are considered as such; then expect protection from God. Think carefully; why would God go to great lengths to make us aware of who the Munafiqoon are, (more details is given about them than about how to do Salah) if it was not very important?

if you find that person 'misleading' a more inexperienced person then put up a hyperlink to the 'hypocrite's' previous posts to prove your point. Isn't that all that's necessary?

It?s not for me to pass judgment on who is a hypocrite its for everyone to do their part of recognizing them for simple reasons given above.
                      peace

To be honest with you there should be no such titles but simply the computer revealing the number of posts and generating stars accordingly. To my simple mind it is as misleading a word as the common interpretation of words like Quran, Muslim and Ramadan, even though I too use these worlds as they have become symbols of certain meanings.
In the end I would say this much that I have no desire to derail this thread or win arguments with you.

Why so serious Farida? (sorry I'm in Joker mode) its just a forum. we're all here to share and learn not pick each other apart. This topic would end up spreading more animosity than unity.

I too am in a good mood as you can see from my earlier post, but honestly this topic is not designed to create animosity, instead, if anything my efforts are aimed at exposing the hypocrites and uniting all the believing people of the book.

I missed this whole exchange today.

I congratulate Farida for her straightness and courage to put on the table something that is sure to generate raised brows and blowbacks, like "how do you know that the hypocrite is not you? or something of the sort.

I understand the unwillingness of the moderators to enter into a moral debate on the morality of members. Surely such a thing would not be easy and anything done at a given moment would prejudge what would be done later. So it is my perception that moderators in free minds leave in fact a lot of freedom to everybody and would very rarely step in for any reason, escept the most outragious and obvious ones.

I can understand that and couldn't say that I desagree or agree with it. I think that the moderators do a great job. They have managed to keep this site going and keeping freedom of speech, so necessary for any moral or intellectual aim. Also the amount of work done on Quran themes and managing this site by those who do it for the service of all those interested is something that deserves every thank I am able to give. May God bless them and reward them. Not to speak of having to walk in somebody's shoes in order to be able to make any sound judgement. So my acknowledgement and thanks to those who have made and keep this site what they are and also connected sites.

On the other hand, I understand Farida's concern and I share it. I realise that not everybody finds that her worry is founded and may see it as if she was making too much of it. I think she is not making too much of anything. Moderators may be doing what is right, because may be if they did anything different it would be worse. I can't say. However hypocrites are worse than the usual pains in the neck in that they have the ability to deceive and wriggle in and out of things and to put everybody else on the wrong foot so that in fact if you face them you seem to be making a mountain out of a mole and seeing double and may make you feel ridiculous. So while I do not know what are the moderators feelings about every particular case, I do say that Farida is also doing what is right. Somebody has to do it. Those who do not understand it that way may be are not reading the same threads that Farida and others, including me, read, may be they do not see any danger...

                                And what is the danger?

Have any of you read Shakespeare drama Othelo? Was Yago without danger? You may say very wise things like that "if Othelo hadn't been such an ass, nothing of that would have happened", something quite useful in assigning epithets to Othello, but which doesn't prevent or solve any problem and ignores the fact that everybody has weaknesses and therefore everyone of us is liable to fall in for a hypocrite. I have fallen for hypocrites, not very often but I have, and it has never been out of any awful trait of my character, whotugh I may have plenty of those, but by what might be called being too good, too trusting, believe too much on human kindness, something which of course I mean to believe till I die, but which like everything else must be accompanied by tons of caution. But by the same token I cannot believe evil from anybody just like that. It stands to reason that when somebody is pushing and pulling to make everybody believe in the evilness of somebody else because one cannot believe that that first somebody would lie to us deliberately... that somebody may in fact be a hypocrite.

I understand that in this site certain attitudes (many times hypocritical attitudes) of traditional muslims or of some traditional muslims ( what is many times called sunnis or shias, the name doesn't matter) are ridiculed, disparaged and condemned. Many of those attitudes are a disgrace and a blot on anything named after the deen of islam. I do ridicule those attitudes, many times with no sweetness at all, and I intend to continue doing it for as long as I find it advisable and I am able to, for the sake of truth and justice
However, when, as Farida has pointed out, we run into a contest on how better defame, blow out of proportion, outright lie and pound on the people who are denominated here as sunni or shia or other ethnic names or name callings wholewise, then I think that we are being led the wrong way, the wrong way of injustice and disdain for other humans beings, of further division and of slandering whole bunches of people, among whom there may be such awful characters as would warrant some name calling, but certainly not whole bunches of people and all people. Because from what I read in the forum, it seems that that some of those here in this site that come from those awful, fanatic people (sunnis or shias) and ?marvel! they are still alive, they have not been killed as apostates or kafirs and some of them even seem to have good relationships with their families sunnis. I personally do not know any of those monsters as some posters are mentioning here as a universal truth and pervading phenomenon comprising all the millions of sunnis ans shias, but I know many normal sunnis or whatever to whose mind would never ever come such a thought and would be horrified to imagine it. So when somebody speaks like that, or pounds on a particular people as monsters, what can his or her aim be? Shall we trust his or her good faith? Will we rather believe him or her and consider millions of persons we do not know as criminals, and so not contradict the the poor innocent slalnderer because he might be upset, or should we rather not believe him and concede, considering that we do not know those millions of people in such a way that we can put on them the label "criminals"? Or else, should we, like hypocrites, simply shut up and look the other way because that is nothing to do with us? When the slandering is systematic and unrelenting, how would we describe it and name it?

                                Salaam and excuse the length

                                  Peace to all,

I do not believe the word "harbour" is fair to be used here. Harbour means to shelter, give refuge to. Is that what the site operators are doing? I don't think so. True, there may be hypocrites that visit this site, but that does not mean they are given "refuge".

Why not start a thread with verses that explain hypocrisy and educate people that way? Free-Minds is not the only place hypocrites lurk. This kind of knowledge can be used in daily life... not just in this forum. If we educate ourselves and use our brains it is better than stamping a big "H" on the forehead of someone, IMO.

As I said before, one must be sure before charging another person of hypocrisy. People can be unjustly accused by a whole courtroom and sent to prison for years. Who has the willingness to be the judge here? Not me.

Hypocrisy is a serious claim and God is the only who one knows for sure. It is better to educate ourselves and put all trust in God.

                                    10 Surah Number 9, Ayah Number 67
Be they men or women, the hypocrites are all alike. They order what is evil, forbid what is just, and tighten their purse strings. They forsook Allah, so Allah forsook them. Surely, the hypocrites are evildoers.

                                    Peace all,

God Clairly shows who are the Hypocrits in a very simple way.

They order the "Monker" and Forbid the "Maroof".

                                    What is Monker?
The root word of Monker is 'Naker", which means "Unrecognizable" ; thus any thing God calls Monker is something that God or the true Believers do not recognize as part of God's Words--The Ketab.

                                    What is Maroof?
The root word of Maroof is "3raf", which means "Recognize"; thus any thing God calls Maroof is something that God and the Believers recognize as a part of God's Words--the Ketab.

Now do the math (not code 19 ;D) and you will know who are the Believers and who are the Hypocrates; and then you can identify them easy using The Light of Quran !.

                                    Peace

                                        Salaam dotty,
Please note, I did not say that free minds indeed harbors hypocrites, but asked a very valid question. There is a huge difference between accusing of something, and provoking an answer.

it is better than stamping a big "H" on the forehead of someone,

On the other hand I do object to giving merit titles Wise One, to undeserving individuals, simply because the programme is designed that way.

Why not start a thread with verses that explain hypocrisy and educate people that way

This thread is doing just that; you already have a number of references from the Qur?an and I am adding a few more, as I understand it.

2204 There is the type of man whose SPEECH about this world's life May dazzle thee, and he calls Allah to witness about what is in his heart; yet is he the most contentious of enemies.

2205 And when he turn,s back, he runs along in the land that he may cause mischief in it and destroy the tilth and the stock, and Allah does not love mischief-making.

2206 And if he is told "Be aware of God," his pride leads to more sin. Hell shall be
sufficient for him; what a miserable abode

Free-Minds is not the only place hypocrites lurk. This kind of knowledge can be used in daily life... not just in this forum. If we educate ourselves and use our brains

As I said earlier we have no authority to pass judgement just educate each other and take precautions
Hypocrites have been everywhere as stated earlier, they are part of all sections of societies, not only in Religious establishments but in all the world?s Government settings.
They are playing the part of Judas (traitors), for example Paul and all those who succeeded in dividing the believers into the Shia and the Sunni sects and further divided them into many more.
Luckily We have been urged to pay attention to the tactics of the Munafiqoon, from the very early surahs and onwards. For further reading please follow the link below for Surah 63 The Hypocrites
631 When the HYPOCRITES come to thee, they say, "We bear witness that thou art indeed the Messenger of Allah." Yea, Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His Messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the HYPOCRITES are indeed liars.
                                        http//www.islamicity.com/mosque/quran/63.htm#1

Hypocrisy is a serious claim and God is the only who one knows for sure. It is better to educate ourselves and put all trust in God.

Exactly; first tie your camel then leave it to God. hail
