    Salaams,

I don't think food fasting exists in the quran what so ever.

    FASTING DANGEROUS FOR SOME PEOPLE.

It is also important to know that no matter how short the duration, fasting is unwise and potentially dangerous for some people. This group of people is pregnant and lactating women, people with cancer, diabetes, gout, hypoglycemia, stomach ulcers, liver, kidney, or lung disease. It could be potentially dangerous for anyone with a compromised immune system.

POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF HUNGER ON THE PEOPLE IN RAMADHAN.

Hunger affects the normal functioning and development of the human body and contributes to A drastic reduction in the body's ability to resist infection. Hunger weakens people physically. As persistent, chronic hunger limits the body's ability to use energy for activities, the undernourished have difficulty performing at school, finding work, and being productive. Employers and teachers may see hungry people as slow or lazy, when in fact they suffer from lethargy, the body's response to prolonged calorie and nutrient deprivation.

POSSIBLE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF RAMADHAN ON MUSLIM COUNTRIES.

Improved nutrition affects economic growth directly through improved labor productivity. An FAO study of developing countries over 30 years found that if countries with high rates of undernourishment had increased food intake to an adequate level, their economic output, or gross domestic product (GDP), would have risen by 45 percent. Losses in labor productivity due to hunger can cause reductions of 6 to 10 percent in per capita GDP, according to a U.N. task force on hunger.

WHERE PEOPLE AWARE OF THE DIABETUS DESEASE WHEN ISLAM CAME? THAT FASTING CAN CAUSE SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS FOR PEOPLE.

    http//www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Food_and_recipes/Fasting_and_diabetes/The_dangers_of_fasting/

    but to all their understandings.

    Salaams.

      Salam simple,

Interesting idea that "food" fasting does not exist in the Quran. Please share your thoughts on what the Quran says in 2184 about those who have difficulty fasting can substitute feeding one poor person for every day of breaking the fast. What can the difficulty be?

      Peace,
      dotty

        Salaams dotty,

The theme starts from 2180- what you need to abstain from is anything forbidden- like giving up a bad habit.

        Using Quranic Dictionary

        2184
Of the favours/punishments numbered whoso is of you sick(in the head) untill to dispersion (of the same) number of favours / punishments put behind, and upon those who afford it ransom feeding/giving/helping a needy person whoso does voluntarily good it better for him and that you abstain better for you if you know.

        2187
Is obligatory for you during these hard times of abstinence consorting with your women they hold social intercourse with you and now you hold social intercourse with them knew Allah that were deceiving yourself so he bestowed repentance upon you and forgave you so associate with such a one and seek what ordains Allah for you and support and permeate as until becomes distinct to you like the gleam of dawn from the twilight at sunset of the going aside from the right path then complete abstinence until the habit lasts and not associate with it while you conform to the submissions/ the proper way these limits of Allah so not approach them thus makes clear Allah ??..

        Here is an old link.

          Salaam simple,

It's not making sense to me. If the ill or traveling are suppose to substitute an equal number of days... then why would it pertain to "anything that is forbidden"? Why would it be difficult for the ill or traveling to abstain from things that are forbidden?

          peace

            Salaams dotty,

to my belief and understanding its nothing at all to do with ill,travelling,days.........that isn't in the ayah.

            its more like;

If and when you receive an opurtunity whereby you can do good or bad but if you lean to doing the bad of it ,put it behind you, the opurtunity until it remains within your grasp. But rather serve those in need whereby you?r heart may change into doing the good of it.

            or something like this.

but if you are a good person anyway and choose to fast - great.

If I am a good person... it is all from God, of course. But seriously, I find it difficult to fast for a long time. When I did fast I always started with good intentions, but somehow lacked the strength to continue beyond 6-7 days. Inshallah, I will study this more. Thanks for sharing your understanding.

              peace

yes fasting can be dangerous for some
i think thats why you have an alternative if u are unable to do it - ie. feed a poor person.

however, it depends on ur interpretation of fasting in the quran

But some decades ago these diseases weren?t recognizable - so the fasting then must have been very detrimental or helpful to kill off, or make their lives miserable indeed, of all these people with such diseases?

So was it good or was it good for people who didn't know they had such diseases.

But didn't mean to offend any one taking fasting as something holy.

                  God Bless All of us.

haha, fasting as means of natural selection; I hadn't thought of that one before, it seems sensical.

fasting can be dangerous, especially islamic fasting -- no drinking water from sunrise to sunset, the hottest parts of the day, when the most working and sweating is done? it seems designed for inducing dehydration. I have seen healthy and able people collapse and nearly die of dehydration just from taking a couple hours break from drinking water in these conditions. There must be something wrong with this idea.

                      salaam alaikum,

                      elorkum vanakkam...

                      Fasting is dangerous ,maybe.

rsw said 'There must be something wrong with this idea.' maybe it has been taken out of context. If you see fasting as a punishment it may make absolue sense. Below is the link where all the verses about fasting are refered to. You will see all of it will point to fasting as a means of punishemnt.

my take/stab at it If you look at it,God's bounty is food and water, foremost. For those who violate HIS laws, HE would take away access to the HIS bounty..of course depends on the intergrity of the one being punished. One of HIS ingenious punishments....

                      HE is so kind...

                        Salaams All,

here is an example of what the shahr are-

So what are the two shahr in the following?

                        004.092
YUSUFALI Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake, (Compensation is due) If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased's family, unless they remit it freely. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, then abstain the two shahr by being steadfast in repentance (seeking) from Allah for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom.

Willful killing is forbidden, but being an accident the two shahrs envisaged are to free a debtor and to pay compensation. But if you can?t do these then be repentant (seeking) from Allah so as to be indebt and obedient.

                        Good hunting.
