Salaams,
492
Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake, (Compensation is due) If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased's family, unless they remit it freely. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, (is prescribed) a fast for two months running by way of repentance to Allah for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom.Just using QD alone.

And We ordained for them in it that a cheer for a cheer and a tear for a tear and an avoidance for an avoidance and permission for a permission and an establishing of law for an establishing of law and FOR WOUNDS RETRIBUTION so whoever forgoes it it it will be an expiation for him .......And for a wound? retribution(or compensation).
And in 492 above the only thing is compensation for a killing by mistake.
Previouse trans
According to this old trans everything seems retributory and they all cause wounds so why give a list if the penalty for any wound is the same? May be they are not all wounds.
545
We ordained therein for them "Life for life, eye for eye, nose or nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." But if any one remits the retaliation by way of charity, it is an act of atonement for himself. And if any fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (No better than) wrong-doers.The quran is basically about deeds, actions our Aamaal e.t.c

????law of equality - murder(and not a physical mrder) of righteousness (fairness) for righteousness (fairness), and a servent for a servent(stopping/preventing servitude) , and tenderness/ sweatness for tenderness/ sweatness but who whoso is pardoned for him by his brother , aught to adhere according to fairness and give to him in a goodly manner that an alleviation from your lord????..
Who is the brother who can forgive?? lets see
But (even so), if they repent, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity,- they are your brethren in Faith (thus) do We explain the Signs in detail, for those who understand.
The brother is the victim ?forgiving the one who committed the offence. And its not murder of a person in this ayah at all.
We are all brothers to one another ? according to the above ayah.
And Qatala isn?t always a physical slaying.
Here the people of Moses qatala themselves and then become good people and are forgiven???
[254
And remember Moses said to his people "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf So turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker." Then He turned towards you (in forgiveness) For He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
55.
[255
And remember ye said "O Moses! We shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly," but ye were dazed with thunder and lighting even as ye looked on.
56.
[256
Then We raised you up after your death Ye had the chance to be grateful.God Bless.

O you who believe, equivalence is the law decreed for you when dealing with murder - the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the female for the female. If one is pardoned by the victim's kin, an appreciative response is in order, and an equitable compensation shall be paid. This is an alleviation from your Lord and mercy. Anyone who transgresses beyond this incurs a painful retribution.
Its the victim's kin , not brother. But in a lot of the translations, it mean 'brother'. What if the victim doesn't have a brother ?

1st scenario;
Killing relatives happens a fair amount in Pakistan, for relationships, for retribution for money e.t.c
So how about getting someone to kill off a relative and then simply forgiving them after.
might, or could happen!
2nd scenarion;
"the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the female for the female"
so do we kill their slave for them killing our slave?
do we kill their female for them killing our female? so forth, it isn't sensible is it?look to the words in the quran and use a dictionary to see what the words mean to get to the real meaning, and you will see it come together making much more sense.
e.g
"Ana" in the quran they use it to be an eye or a spring well i don't think its either there are two roots page 398 and 395 of the Quranic Dictionary - see the meanings ...............
The Force be with you D

A good article - but;
cannot agree that this ayah is about animals though!
2 178 "O you who believe! Equality in punishment "qasaa" is prescribed for you in case of the murdered the free (male) for the free (male), the slave (male) for the slave (male) and the female for the female..."
I do not think this verse concerns humans. God speaks of "soul" when discussing humans. Souls have neither gender nor different freedom status (see all the above verses). It's about animals where a female animal stands a category by itself. Animals for entertainment, race..etc are different from animals for servitude.
Secondly, it gives legitmacy to the way people in Upper Egypt take revenge You killed my mother, I kill your mother or a similar female (or maybe two or more because your mother is already dead, and two or more of your aunts are equal to your mother).I believe its talking about the services we provide or cause to stop, to others.
But each to ones understanding.
