how about the misconception, that muslims imagine they have a divine claim to the temple mount/al aqsa or that israel is occupied by jewish people against the wishes of god who wants muslims to prove their faith by either lording over them in that land or ridding them from it. here is a link to the now in/famous frontpage interview with Prof. Khaleel Mohammed who refutes this argument using the quran only. great interview. im planning on putting together a thread on this issue soon also.

edit not sure if this is classified as a muslim or non-muslim miconception or both. i guess one follows the other.

peace,
I think the Quran specifically states that the Children of Israel were blessed in a land.

That by no means gives the present state of Palestine to present day Jews.

Or does anyone have any other Quranic verse that specifically allows the takeover of Palestinian land?

Now I am not supporting any "muslim" claim over Temple Mount. I do not think that the mix of people's in the land of Palestine should have been raped by fascism. This land was a diverse land populated by Arabs, Jews, Druze and others.

It must be your misconception, because this is the first time I have heard of such a thing. Other that it is a question of colonialism, not a question of religion, unless we take that when the colonised country is propulated by muslims mainly or in part it has no right to get rid of the colonial situation.

peace all,
I would like to compile a list of common misconceptions about Islam, that can be easily corrected using The Quran.
If you know of examples or articles discussing this, please state them here so I can review them.
The content will be released for all to use once done.
Thanks.

Peace,.
Respectfully.

People are under impression that Islam was spread by the sword and there is a sword on the flag of Saudi Arabia. We would need to point out the difference between us (Muslims) and them (sunnis).

Sunnis cannot find prayer in the Quran and say that Quran is not detailed.

People think that Muslims and/or sunnis are converting others into Islam while they don't see that God is The One Who guides people to the truth or leaves them to wander blindly, God opens your heart towards Islam or seals it.

Christians think that we worship a black cube in the desert.

How can we deal with all this?
How do we explain?
How do we present Quran to the world, when sunnis have destroyed the true and real image of Islam and presented us in this way?

Glory be to God.
Peace.

haha I like that. The Qur'an will find it's way to people, Ma Sha'a Allah. I believe it should be promoted, but only to those who seek it. It shouldn't be forced on people. Qur'an teaching and the definition of Islam should be made known to people who are oblivious to it and may not be arrogant enough to insult it yet. If my Father didn't buy me a Qur'an I may never have read it and continued on as I was. I think God has given the believers the duty to spread the Word to those who seek it. It is mentioned when God is talking about idolaters who they waged war with surrendering and being taught about the Scriptures. I believe it is injust to hold the Qur'an message within ourselves and not share it. We shouldn't preach, but we should make it known subtly. I use Qur'an verses on Facebook that allows you to select verses of the Qur'an and put it on your profile in Arabic and a translation of your choice (English or many others) or a transliteration. If anyone is interested in using that on Facebook pm or something. Peace

Salaam to all

Question, if we are supposed to study and verify all things, as stated in this forum many times, wouldnt writing all these things, make people more lazy as the Hadiths did...are we doing the same thing again?

Why open Quran and study anything..or learn arabic...if all of you will make it easy for me, not to have to investigate and confirm.

You will have to confirm these findings anyways. So it's not like you will not be doing anything unless you choose to take the findings at face value whether they are true or not.

Salam,

The misconceptions in my opinion are as follows

1- Allah is the God for Muslims.
2- Muslims are inherently violent (suicide bombers).
3- Muslims are supposed to have 4 wives.
4- Cutting the hands of thieves.
5- Dress code for men and women.
6- Praying 5 times a day.
7- Halal meat.

Salam

Progress on my end about this has been slow. Mainly because I thought it would simply be a case of reviewing articles already written and refining them to compile a simple list. Little did I realise there is hardly any good quality information like this out there (no wonder people are being misled!) so a significant part has to be done from scratch, and I dont have that kind of time at the moment.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Peace Wakas,

Progress on my end about this has been slow. Mainly because I thought it would simply be a case of reviewing articles already written and refining them to compile a simple list. Little did I realise there is hardly any good quality information like this out there (no wonder people are being misled!) so a significant part has to be done from scratch, and I dont have that kind of time at the moment.

I think that perhaps asking the opposite question might help.

What are common valid conceptions about peacemaking? You will find that people inherently have many similar conceptions of what peacemaking entails. On the other hand, ask them about the common valid conceptions about Islam and you will find zero.

So instead of wasting your time finding endless misconceptions, I would suggest correcting the concept from the meaningless Islam to the universal concept of peacemaking and then all those misconceptions will disappear because everyone knows what peacemaking is based on our god-given instinct.

Peace,

Ayman

This book by Prof. Fry proves peace-making is not only within human nature, war in itself is a deviation of human nature and evolution

I am not sure that this is the right place to jump in but I could use some information on this topic. I am a Catholic who reads the Quran every night and who believes the Mohammad is a Prophet. I frankly do not believe in the divinity of Jesus and tend to look at him as a prophet as well. The Quran actually agrees with many scholars on it's view of the historical Jesus, (however most of them believe that he was crucified). I have gone to Friday services at a Shia (sp?) mosque and have frequently gone to a Sunni Mosque near my home. However, it is hard to leave a faith that my wife and my family embrase and that is such an intricate part of my background and support system.
One of my problems is that while I have found the Muslims I have met to be friendly and encouraging, their cultural orientation is usually very different than my own. Furthermore, the practices that appear to be outlined in the Hadith are for me, overwelming and often appear to be at odds with the world I operate in. How could I tell my wife that she needs to wear a head covering? Most of the Muslims I meet come from families that are Muslim-mine is not. There are other issues that I am struggling with. Possibly much of this is simply my hesitation in changing faiths and saying the Shahada, but I am interested in the idea of "God alone"
Whitaker
PS this is not a new issue. I have been reading the Quran for years and at one point belonged to another web site called "Progressive Muslims". Some of this truely is my own problem, however I would like to continue this dialoge again and would appreciate any imput you all would care to give.

Peace Arnold,

This book by Prof. Fry proves peace-making is not only within human nature, war in itself is a deviation of human nature and evolution

Peace Whitaker,

One of my problems is that while I have found the Muslims I have met to be friendly and encouraging, their cultural orientation is usually very different than my own. Furthermore, the practices that appear to be outlined in the Hadith are for me, overwelming and often appear to be at odds with the world I operate in. How could I tell my wife that she needs to wear a head covering? Most of the Muslims I meet come from families that are Muslim-mine is not. There are other issues that I am struggling with. Possibly much of this is simply my hesitation in changing faiths and saying the Shahada, but I am interested in the idea of "God alone"

Peacemaking/"islam" (lower case "i&quot is not a fraternity that we join by dressing a certain way or uttering some formula. It is an action. So you have to be a peacemaker ("muslim&quot. If you have faith in the truth from the god then you should use it to contrast with falsehood. This way you will be able to better recognize both.

Peace,

Ayman
