So... Where do I start? ^_^
My name is Eva, I live in England, and I am currently at the age of 13, turning 14 on 11 June (yeah, I know, I'm a baby angel).I came across this website quite a while ago, when I first started looking into Hadiths, and questioning many things. I grew up in a Sunni family, and I was pretty much surrounded by them. This meant that I was unable to question things, as I was always told to not question what is in the Quran(??). I was a kid of course, and I still am, so I decided to go by what they told me. I was told all of those things - step in the bathroom with your left, leave the bathroom with your right, always eat your food with your right hand, angels don't enter houses that have pictures of humans, the reason why you're cold in the morning is because the Shaitaan is pissing on you (??), Shaitaan pisses on the head of those who do not wear a headscarf, blah blah blah. Surprisingly enough, I actually believed all of these things. The reason why I never asked the simple question 'Why?' was because I knew that they would say 'Stop questioning Allah!' (??). It actually got to the point where I would get confused. They would always talk about the Hadiths, but never the Quran. When you ask them a question, they would reply with a Hadith. In fact, I was told that the Quran tells you the basics, and the Hadiths get into detail. Again, I believed this. I am only 13 years old, so it is pretty normal for me to believe what the adults tell me.
I finally decided to look into some of these things. The first thing that I searched up was what a woman must wear. My parents would always tell me to stop wearing trousers, as it is a mans clothing, and to wear a long skirt instead. brickwall I didn't do this. To this day, I still wear trousers to school because my trousers do not show my figure, so why am I not allowed to wear them? It would be a different story if I was wearing really tight clothes, but I am not. Not even my jumper is tight (it is one size too big, so... L). I then became very interested, and now... Well... I don't like Hadiths because most of them go against what it says in the Quran. Most of them encourage sexism. Most of them tell us not to go out and question things, then find the answers. They tell us to do the opposite to what it says in the Quran. Besides, if Hadiths were so important, then wouldn't it be in the Quran? People (Sunnis in particular) talk as if Allah forgot to put something in the Quran. No. The Quran is simple, and easy to follow for a reason.
So yeah, that's how my story goes laugh. I still read the Quran almost everyday because I have to.. I don't understand what I am saying but oh well. I will definitely study Arabic in the future. I'll hopefully finish reading the Quran in maybe 1-2 years since I am already well past chapter 17. Once I finish, I plan on reading the English version. When I finish school, I want to study Arabic )

hehe ^ I suppose many kids today are being sent to mosques so Shikh X who studied in Saudi Arabia 5 years can teach them how to be a muslim >_< ... and they have to learn from this Shikh because he is more knowledgable than all of us, and so he can't be wrong brickwall

I would recommend Ahmed Ali's translation of the Quran. It is good.

My view on learned people, the so called "Sheikhs" is that they can be a blessing or a curse. It depends on your approach. Sometimes, I have to contact such scholars or read about their views on certain things. From there, I gather materials for consideration. For example, lets say, I was looking for the meaning of a word in Qur'an and its interpretation. Along with dictionaries and independent research, it helps sometimes to look at other people's opinions on the issue. Then comes the time to weigh them, the one that is the most consistent and backed by the most amount of evidence stands out.
That is how one may actually use these sheikhs/scholars for their learning. However, we live in a world where instead of taking this approach, we prefer to break the principle of "No God beside Allah" by authorizing our favourite sheikh to dictate the mind of God.

I mean no disrespect, yet I should ask, the rules and practises which is a MUST to obey according to Islam are they not heavy? is there anyone that keeps up with all of them in their hearts?. I know a Friend Who came from Heaven to set us free, He reveal what God requires in details. they test and see that He is good...
It looks to me like when we are still young, there is someone who already programmed to elderly to program us so that we grow up with no choice and forgot how we felt when we were young. I say this because I believe you are more closer to God while you are young, but you haven't mature in the natural, as you grow old people program you otherwise,
Well, I know the words of Jesus are words of inner peace and do not confuse,
I wish that even Islam would let anyone read the words of Jesus as they wish,

welcomewhen i was 13 I never thought much about religion, maybe because my parents weren't that deep into religion although they were quite observant.
I suppose you're quite lucky to have that passion to ask about religion in this young age.. Though I hope you don't get lost in the complexities.. just keep it simple, practical and positive thinking towards Allah SWT..I wish you all the best.
