    Peace to All

I am studying surah 107 but i have some difficulty in understanding the phrase " wa yamna unal ma un"

as per the interpretation of abdullah yusuf ali it is 'But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs'

Can readers help what is mentioned by that phrase?

      peace,

I also struggled with chapter 107, so I decided to translate it myself
      http//www.quraninstitute.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=211

To my surprise, I discovered nearly all translations misunderstood the word/phrase you refer to!

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Nice one Wakas...shows how other translations hide whether intentionally or not the correct meaning, taking into account the usage of words that God uses.

        PEACE

          Peace be upon you,

Woe to those who "salaat" but are of thier salaat heedless.

hmmmmm, how can one on one hand be doing something, but also be heedless that they are doing it?

That is the programming/conditioning of the subconcious...weather you know it or not, you are being programmed by all you see, hear, etc especially when you enter certain brain wave patterns. It is best to take control(m-l-k) of that process, and that is salaat, but there have come generations who lost the salaat.

            Assalamo Alaikum,

            O
"Have you thought about the (psyche of) one who denies the (day of) Judgment?
            O
For this reason he is the one who repulses/rebuffs the orphan
            O
and neither persuades (himself/others) to feed the destitute/indigent.
            O
            O
            O
            O

For this reason, it is regrettable for those performers of Salat who are neglectful/heedless of their Salat; regret/woe is for those who perform salat (occasionally) only for showing it to people; and cause hindrance in freely/ordinarily available things of public use/refuse giving trivial value things to others"

The people diametrically opposite to people having this psyche and conduct as mentioned in this Surat are mentioned in chapter 7021-26 as under

            O
            O
            O
            O
            O

            O

The particular trait of Munafiqeen is performing Salat reluctantly and only for show off and the other is and they keep their fists closed.

              peace Mazhar, all,

Please note the fa/so in 1074 which links 1071-3 perfectly. The use of "fa/so" directly implies linking what is said with what came before.

Secondly, 1077 is unlikely to be "freely/ordinarily available things of public use/refuse giving trivial value things to others" or small/common kindnesses etc as other translators think, because if it was these things then these things are common, and people doing such things only do so because they want to be seen doing these things, hence they will be common things, i.e. they happen regularly. What they refuse to do however is go beyond the surface, they refuse to go far, go deep, which is what the root of Miim-Ayn-Nun suggests.

Thirdly, in 1071 it uses "bi/in".

              http//www.quraninstitute.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=211

              1. Have you seen/considered him who is denying in the obligation?
              2. It is the one who mistreats/repels the orphan,
              3. And does not encourage the feeding of the poor/needy.
              4. So woe to the ones who go/turn towards,
              5. But of their bond are unaware/heedless.
              6. They only want to be seen,
              7. And withold the far-reaching deeds.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.
