Tattoo?

A few years ago I gave myself a stick and poke tattoo. Yes I repeatedly stuck myself with a needle covered in ink. It's really small but unislamic so I have been thinking about getting it covered with quranic calligraphy. I have heard varying things about tattoos. For the record its not anywhere that people will generally see so it's not for vanity. I just don't feel good with a symbol of shirk on my body.

The least radical thing you could do is to be patient and try to learn being comfortable with a symbol of shirk on your body. The Lord already knows what you did and believed back then, and covering up any remaining visible traces of past transgressions are IMHO probably of less importance than repentance "on the inside" so to speak.
You could just get a covering blob.
You could get a tattoo that somehow conveys "I'm covering up a past mistake" in a humorous way, making a joke about it. Possibly you could get a useful tattoo somehow - stain your skin with relevant yet hard to memorize data like the periodic table of elements or something.
You could also get something short and sweet from the Quran (like a single word) done in a really nice script, I guess.Allah knows best.

Yeah it doesn't really matter if you did a shirk tattoo if you're not doing shirk now.

I would forget about the past and start a new, to me tattooing is like saying "i'm not content with what You've given me so I'll add to the 'beautification' "..
So either erasing it or forgetting about it ever existed and go on with your life a fresh..peace
