    Assalaam Alaikum @Nun

    The topic is 'Number of Wives'.

    As I informed you, I do NOT argue about or 'with' translations nor do I engage in 'juggling' ayats.(I reference an ayat, you give me another ayat to (attempt) refuting the ayat I referenced)

    Lastly, I dont have a clue about 'cousins marrying other cousins' as it relates to Sura Nisa 423. I dont see any relevance to 'that you combine between the two sisters'.

    Just create a thread and lets discuss it.

    Greetings@Muslimtruthrevealed,

    There is nothing to argue or a need to create new thread ? you posted an obvious error...

    Quote from Muslimtruthrevealed on Yesterday at 112559 PM
    O those who believe in the Prophet!

    "Ya ayyuha allatheena" ? addresses/calls attention to believers!
    3349 O you who believe!

    ?Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyu? ? addresses/calls attention to the prophet!
    3350 O you the prophet!

    Lastly, to topic ?Number of Wives? IS relevant ?that you NOT combine between the TWO sisters.?

    This is clear and simple IF THEN ELSE logic;

    IF on prohibited list THEN do not marry ELSE (e.g. cousins not on list) marry.

    IF they (the women) are TWO sisters THEN do not marry ELSE marry.

    Peace

      Assalaam Alaikum

      Nun, let me help you Sura Nisa 423 is NOT 'implying' you can marry 'cousins'.

      Actually this ayah makes it clear....

      O those who believe in the Prophet! We have made lawful to you thy wives to whom you have paid their dowers; and those whom you have control of leading to the right/blessings whom Allah has assigned to you; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated with you / hajarna maAAaka;

      By the way, 'denial' is NOT a validation or confirmation of an error. 'Denial' can be indicative of ignorance and arrogance.

      Now the topic in this thread is 'Number of Wives'

            If you would read the PREVIOUS ayah....

            O you who believe!

            O those who believe in the Prophet!

            Ya / Present Tense Vocative, NOW, calling for YOUR attention

            ayyuha / present tense vocative NOUN meaning 'Which one of you, Who, Whosoever

            An-Nabiyyu / Accusative, Object of 'those who believe'

              Assalaam Alaikum @Nun

              Ya & ayyuha....Present Tense..Now....

              Nabiyyu is an Accusative Case...Its the Object of of those who 'Believe'. Accusative means something is being DONE to the Object, Nabiyyu its NOT referencing the 'actual' 'living' Prophet, its referencing the character and behavior displayed by the Prophet that the Believers are 'Believing in'.

              Think of the Accusative Case as someone 'accusing' you of something (i.e. He/She is a great person or He/She is a Humble Muslim)

              The Quran is guidance for those alive NOT those that are dead.

              That it may give admonition to any (who are) alive / hayyan, and that the charge may be proved against those who reject (Truth).

              Muhammed, saw is nolonger living...Im sorry that may upset you emotionally, but its the reality and Allah is the reality

              This is so, because Allah is the Reality. it is He Who gives life to the dead, and it is He Who has power over all things.

              And verily the Hour will come. there can be no doubt about it, or about (the fact) that Allah will raise up all who are in the graves.

                  Salaams,

                  I think Fahad said this already;

                  The norm is;

                  2432
                  And marry the single among you and the pious of your male servents and maid servents if they be poor will enrich Allah oif his bounty and Allah is All ? sufficient All ? knowing.

                  And 43

                  Is conditional;

                  004.003
                  If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the Al-Yataama, then Marry what seems good to you of women, Two's, three's, four's(e.t.c); but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, though, with Oath, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.

                  Alaho Hafiz.

                    Assalaam Alaikum

                    Excellent topic Simple. Unfortunately, (for the Men) the polgamy reference in Sura Nisa 43 is a mistranslation in english and misinterpretation along with a 'lustful' fallacy developed by Men.

                    Allah makes it clear.....

                    MARRY THOSE AMONG YOU WHO ARE SINGLE, and the virtuous ones among yourselves, male or female. if they are in poverty, Allah will give them means out of His grace. for Allah encompasseth all, and he knoweth all things.

                    Thus the ayah An-Nur 24.32 destroys the polygamous fallacy.

                    If the female Musilimah's gave the married Males who approach them Sura An-Nur 24.32, the fallacy and misinterpretation would cease to exist.

                    Now for those Men who believe they can still practice Polygamy, 'because Muhammad did'

                    Allah addresses these Men in the following Sura and ayahs....

                    Wa-ith taqoolu lillathee anAAama Allahu AAalayhi waanAAamta AAalayhi
                    amsik AAalayka zawjaka waittaqi Allaha / amsik AAalayka zawjaka waittaqi Allaha = Keep your dignity with your wife/mate and have regard for Allah

                    wa tukhfee fee nafsika / and Be aware of your soul;your inner feelings
                    ma Allahu mubdeehi watakhsha alnnasa waAllahu ahaqqu an takhshahu

                    fa lamma qada zaydun minha wataran zawwaj nakaha li-kaa (for YOU) la yakoona AAala almu/mineena harajun fee azwaji adAAiya-ihim itha qadaw minhunna wataran wakana amru Allahi mafAAoolan

                    Any excesses (i.e. polygamy, oppressing women, etc.) that were practiced in regards to females and marriage have now ENDED and those practices should cease.

                    O those who believe in the Prophet! ....ANY BELIEVING WOMAN WHO DEDICATES HER SOUL TO THE PROPHET IF THE PROPHET WISHES TO WED HER;- THIS ONLY FOR YOU, AND NOT FOR THE BELIEVERS / waimraatan muminatan in wahabat nafsaha lilnnabiyyi in arada alnnabiyyu an yastankihaha/ khalisatan/ laka min dooni almumineena

                    Yastankihaha (imperfect, 3rd person) wish to marry
                    Dictionary of the Holy Quran page 577 (nakaha)

                    Khalisatan (active participle) Distinct Quality, Someone with exclusive right, one who is pure, genuine, best choice, most excellent; Mukh-la-san / Mukh-lee-san means one who is Chosen, Chosen by Allah, pure from pollution or hypocrisy, pure & sincere towards Allah, purely believing in the unity of Allah (applied to a Human)
                    Lanes Lexicon Volume 2 page 785-787;
                    Online Single Page http//www.studyquran.co.uk/LLhome.htm
                    Dictionary of the Holy Quran page 161 (khalasa)

                    Sorry (ladies) gentlemen, Allah makes it clear you can nolonger practice excesses and marry all the women you want. The exclusive right to practice polygamy in its true sense was ONLY relegated to the Prophets of Allah

                    Now we can address Sura Nisa 43 in light of the truth.

                      Assalaam Alaikum

                      Before we address Sura Nisa 43....

                      Allah continues to address the Men who still insist on 'slipping' by with 'exchanging' and changing their wife or wives for others.....amazing Allah knows Men are lustful and rebellious

                      It is not lawful for you (to marry more) women after this, NOR TO CHANGE THEM FOR (OTHER) WIVES, even though their beauty attract you, except any thy right hand should possess (as handmaidens). and Allah doth watch over all things.

                      La yahillu laka alnnisaa min baAAdu wala an tabaddala bihinna min azwajin walaw aAAjabaka husnuhunna illa ma malakat yameenuka wakana Allahu AAala kulli shayin raqeeban

                      Sorry Gentlemen cant do that either.....

                        Assalaam Alaikum

                        Ok Lets just jump to the chase....

                        I will NOT post the english translation, because EVERYONE I have encountered is wrong.....

                        Wain khiftum alla tuqsitoo fee alyatama fa inkihoo {MA TABA lakum minna alnnisai mathna wathulatha warubaAAa} fain khiftum alla taAAdiloo fawahidatan aw ma malakat aymanukum thalika adna alla taAAooloo

                        Wain khiftum alla tuqsitoo fee alyatama fa VERBAL SENTENCE >>> inkihoo ADVERBAL MODIFIERS >>> MA TABA lakum minna <<< GENITIVE >>> alnnisai ADJECTIVES >>> mathna wathulatha warubaAAa <<< fain khiftum alla taAAdiloo fa ADJECTIVE Subject (Al Nisa) >>>> wahidatan <<< aw ma malakat aymanukum thalika adna alla taAAooloo

                        It is Ma = NOT Taba = good/lawful Lakum =TO/For YOU to be given the Minna = favor/gift/blessing/benefit of Al Nisai = (get married to) Women Mathna = 2, Thulatha = 3, and Rubaa = 4 TIMES

                        IT IS NOT LAWFUL to divorce get married, divorce get married, divorce get married again and divorce and get married again (and in doing so leave a family behind EACH time!)

                        Al Yatama does NOT mean 'orphan'....

                        ?Al? (adataatarif) is a Definite Article , used to give the meaning of ?Most, All, Complete, Maximum, Whole, and to denote comprehensiveness, all aspects or categories of a subject, or to denote perfection and includes all degrees and grades.

                        yatama sole, unmatched, single, lonely, jaded, one withoutparents; Root word atamm means more complete, more perfect, perfectly prepared, totally ready; Root word Tamm meaning consummate, of full value, self contained, needing no completion; Root word Tamma means to or become complete, completed, finished, done, to be performed, be accomplished, to come to an end;
                        Hans Wehr Arabic English Dictionary 4th Ed. page 117-118 (tamma)

                        When Allah references 'orphans' Allah uses the word 'yateem'

                        Al-Insan/Al-Dahr 76.8] And for His love they feed the food to the miskeen / the needy (who is reduced to poverty) and the yateem / orphan and aseer / captive.

                        No, No! but you honour not the orphans / al-yateema!

                        mathna wa thulatha wa rubaAAa does not mean two three and four because two, three and four in Arabic are ithnaan, thalatha and arbaa' and not mathna, thulatha and rubaa

                        ithnan means 2 thalatha means 3 arba?a means 4

                        Allah confirms the definitive use of ALL these cardinal / ordinal number references in the following ayahs

                        Praise be to Allah, Who created (out of nothing) the heavens and the earth, Who made the angels, messengers with wings,- two/ mathna, or three/ thulatha, or four/ rubaAAa. He adds to Creation as He pleases. for Allah has power over all things.

                        O you who believe! When death approaches any of you, (take) witnesses among yourselves when making bequests,- two / ithnani just men of your own

                        O, you who believe those whom your right possess and those among you who have not reach puberty, ask permission from you three / thalatha times/repetitions / marratin

                        For those who take an oath for abstention from their wives, a waiting for four / arbaAAati

                        sadeeqal atheemi / Allah has revealed the truth

                            The point and fact of the matter is that it was the translator NOT Allah who stated Men can have up to 4 wives.

                            Besides the 'Sunna' that has been followed by ALL Humankind is ONE lifetime marriage with ONE mate, thats the 'Sunna' that has been established by Allah.

                            Now Allah states.....

                            Allah doth wish to make clear to you and to SHOW YOU THE SUNNA OF THOSE BEFORE YOU; and (He doth wish to) turn to you (In Mercy). And Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.

                            Allah will is to Turn to you, but the WISH OF THOSE WHO FOLLOW THEIR LUSTS IS THAT YOU SHOULD TURN AWAY (from Allah),- far, far away.

                            Allah commands us to investigate and see what happened to those who followed 'another sunna'....

                            Many were the Ways of Life that have passed away before you. travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who rejected Truth.

                            Now just do some cursory investigation in your own community and understand the life experience of those who engaged in a polygamous relationship.

                            The 'Sunna' they followed will be defined by what has happened to the majority of those relationships.

                            Thus they do not believe in the (Message); but they follow the sunnah of the previous people.

                            Here is a PLAIN STATEMENT TO MEN, a guidance and instruction to those who fear Allah!

                              you are misleading people with your false claims. polygyny is lawful in islam.

                              from abraham to muhammad, muslims had multiple wives. muslims had multiple wives in the presence of muahmmad.

                              your claims are utterly false. do not mislead people.

                                  salam. when the quran specifically refers to marrying two, or three, or four wives, in 43, for you to claim more than one wife is prohibited by allah is misleading people. the quran says its allowed, the examples of muslims in the quran show it is allowed.

                                  if you had any verse that says more than one wife is prohibited, you would need only one sentence to prove your point. flooding the thread with a thousand verses is you trying to cover up your tricks.

                                  allah has a name for people who read to the quran for the purpose of misleading believers. allah calls them "listeners for the sake of a lie"

                                  allah is the lawgiver.

                                      There's also no verse that prevents women having more than one husband, so you must be a big advocate of that too.

                                        ummmmm yes i understand what you are trying to say, butttttttttt if a man with 4 wives gets them all pregnant......and then you have a female with 4 men and she gets pregnant, you following me here.yes
                                        i personnally beelive that a man is allowed 4 wives and please dont take tht right from us as females. first our salat is taken away now are men. it is our right to pray to god through salat (as a ritual) and it is out right as woman to marry men who are already married, the only problem is men dont want.
                                        tell me when wars happened in the olden days and women were left with no men, are they to be denied companionship for the rest of there lives, are they simply ignored and thrown to the side becuase are husbands died for the cause of god but now we pay the price but living alone till death.i wish more men stood up like real men and married those who have no husbands. men are those who make or break this world, and so far im sorry to say, men have done a great job of breaking.

                                          salam,
                                          correct me if im wrong , if we are of different religons we will argue over our different faiths, if we are the same religion but different sects we will argue over the hadeeths of differnt men, so now we are of the same faith with one book, and by god you will argue over the different translations. >(

                                          There's no harm in arguing on different understandings as long as we agree on the main message (the straight path). The laws of marriage and food have nothing to do with the main message. God have changed them accross the different messengers. Besides, if everything is black and white, what's the meaning of this verse 3918?

                                          angelNOW since this thread is about the number of wives, its very simple god has allowed men up too for wives on a condition he can be fair with all and equal, if not then one, but also he allowed it for the simple reason of that women who are widowed or divorced with children may have a husband and a father figuire. it is not a must that a man marry 4 but if he could then i beleive he should and if i were in a marriage, as a female i would have no problem with it, if god says it ok then who am i to judge and if it will make a family as in mother and children have a father and a husband, again no problem. how can i hate on it they are human as i am after all. peace

                                          This is the problem with the common, traditional understanding of this verse. First of all, being just is not the main condition. It's a secondary condition for those who fulfill the first condition that allows them more than a wife; otherwise, it's a condition for everyone, or rather the duty of everyone even if they have one wife or no wife at all.

                                          The second flawd unerstanding is the second bolded sentence. It's not about widowed women. It's about fatherless children. A child whose father is dead does not lose the father's figure by the death of his father, and it is not a must that every woman has a husband so once her husband dies she can go and snatch any married man. What about other widowers, divorced and single men?! Or simply not marrying if she can't find a husband? What about spinsters? Why don't they have this right?

                                          if he could then i beleive he should and if i were in a marriage, as a female i would have no problem with it, if god says it ok then who am i to judge and if it will make a family as in mother and children have a father and a husband, again no problem. how can i hate on it they are human as i am after all. peace

                                          And this is the result of such erronous understanding resulting from deleting the most important part of the verse and jumping to (then they can marry two's three's and four's) and the cause of so many broken homes and children lost to psychological problems.
