    Salaam all,

    Recently I studied from AlQuraan about the word AL and Allah has shown me its meaning very clearly, Alhamdulillah. Whatever I have understood about AL till now is perfect by my TheCreator's grace and blessing. Hopefully, it will work on it's other instances in AlQuraan also. Here is my current understanding....

    AL = available, now.

    Let see some examples inshaAllah.

    2185
    2185 Shahr of Ramadhan in which was revealed AlQuraan, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights AlShahr, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

    In the beginning of 2185 "shahru Ramadhan" is used, shahr is nakira that means without AL that refers to any shahr of Ramadhan or referring to shahr of Ramadhan that is not available now, that you cannot witness now.

    Later in 2185 it says "faman shahida minkumu ALshahra falyasumhu", here shahr is used with AL that refers to shahr which is available, that's how you can witness it. This part of aayat will be translated as "so whoever of you witness that shahr which is available, let him fast it".

    Shahr = Any shahr
    ALshahr = Available shahr

    Another example

    2458
    2458 O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not reached puberty among you ask permission of you at three times before the dawn prayer and when you put aside your clothing at noon and after the night prayer. Three times of privacy for you. There is no blame upon you nor upon them beyond these, for they continually circulate among you - some of you, among others. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise.

    Salaat ALfajr = Any Salaat that is available at fajr
    Salaat AlEishaan = Any Salaat that is available at Eishaan

    2456
    2456 And straighten ALsalaat and give zakah and obey the Messenger - that you may receive mercy.

    Aqimoo ALsalaata = Straighten salaat that is available .

    Another example

    2174
    2174 Indeed, they who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price - those consume not into their bellies except the Fire. And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And they will have a painful punishment.

    Yawm ALqayaamati = Day when ALqayaamat occurs.

    55
    55 This day good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking lovers. And whoever denies the faith - his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

    ALyawm = Day that is available to you or today.

    Please note This is my current and personal understanding, please check Arabic words and study all give aayaats.

    I tried to explain my understanding with examples to you, but don't know how far I am able to made you understand. May Allah make it easy for all of us to understand and guide us to His true path pr

          Even if it is an article a good understanding of it will shine a light on various nuances of the text.

          Which we see right here in this thread. Thanks MMKhan

                Peace be with you youssef,

                I was thinking the same before but if you look carefully the examples I gave in my original post, inshaAllah you will understand. That is the reason I believe that AlQuraan is not based or dependent on any book on earth, not grammar books, not dictionaries, nor any other book, AlQuraan is self explained Book. It is stand-alone Book, because it is the Book of Allah.

                Grammar may change with time, dictionaries may also change with time, so cannot actually depend on other Books. Anyways, this is my personal understanding about AlQuraan, and I believe in it strongly.

                May Allah bless you,
                mmKhan
