Who are the people of the book?
-
Assalaam Alaikum..
Again, your just interpolating the reference to 'Torah', Im sorry its NOT there.
It is He Who sent down to you (step by step), in truth, the Book / Al Kitab, confirming what is between your two hands / musaddiqan li ma bayna yadayhi; and He sent down the Law / Al Tawrat and the Injeel / Al Injeel
(revealed) FROM BEFORE, as a guidance to mankind / min qablu hudan lilnnasi, and it is He who has revealed / anzala the standard by which to discern the true from the false / Al-Furqan. Behold, as for those who are bent on denying God's signs / kafaroo bi ayati Allahi - grievous suffering awaits them for God is almighty, an avenger of evil.
Al Tawrat was revealed BEFORE Muusa,as to ALL Humankind, Muusa,as and Essa,as are NOT mentioned in the previous ayahs!
All the Prophets were given Al Tawrat.....
? It was We who revealed the Law / Al Tawrat therein was guidance and light. By its standard have been judged the guided, by the prophets / Al-Nabiyyoona who bowed (as in Islam) to Allah's will, by the rabbis and the doctors of law. for to them was entrusted to memorize Allah's book /
Not ONE ayah in the Quran states Muusa,as received Tawrat!
In Al Tawrat is the Hukm / Governance of Allah...
And how can they govern you? And At-Tawrat / The Law is near them, in it is hukum / government of Allah. Then after that they turn away and they are not with the believers.
Al Kitab is the Ummi Al Kitab /Mother of the Book that contains Al Tawrat....
It is He who has revealed Al-Kitab / The Book over you. In it are muhkamat / governing ayats / signs. They are the mother of Al-Kitab / The Book
In Al Kitab is Al Tawrat which has the Hukm of Allah and Mukhamat / Governing ayats
Thus...
And verily, it is in the Mother of the Book, in Our Presence, high (in dignity), full of wisdom.
The Bible states in the OT that Muusa,as was given Torah and in the NT the Bible states that Essa,as was given the Gospel
The Quran states that ALL HUMANKIND was given Al Kitab, Al Tawrat and Al Injeel.
Obviously, the Biblical references relating to the Torah and Bible have no relevance to the Quran and Al Kitab.

Salaam MTR
Your post is quite challenging however, when I go through the Quran... I can find clearly when each of these Scriptures were revealed and also, whether they were written or not...
Firstly, The Tawrat and the Injeel was not revealed during Ibrahim Prophethood and was revealed after him...
365
"O People of the Scripture! Why will ye argue about Abraham, when the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed till after him? Have ye then no sense?"
So if Al-Tawrat means Law here, does it mean the Ibrahim (Alayhis Salaam) did not receive the Law of Allah while he was a prophet too ?
After that we have the verse I quoted in my previous post
3223 As-Sajdah
"And certainly We gave the Book to Musa, so be not in doubt concerning the receiving of it, and We made it a guide for the children of Israel."
Its true that so far I have not found a verse where Allah is saying that he gave At-Tawrat to Musa, but in the above verse, we have Al-Kitab ... And from the global understanding of the Quran, everytime Bani Israil is linked with the At-Tawrat... And since Musa was sent to Bani Israil, we can deduce that here Al kitab is referring to At-Tawrat...
Now for the Al-Injeel, we have this verse
349
And He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel,
The above verse is talking about Isa alyhis salaam, so here God letting us know that he will teach him the previous books as well as the injeel. Here we see the use of Al-Kitaab again... So Musa got Al-Kitab, and Isa got Al-Kitaab ... Al-Kitaab means The Book... So both of them received The Book ... And in the same book, there is also what At-Tawrat contained... Its like when a new version is out, it is backward compatible and wipes out the previous one and become the new standard...
Now for the final Scripture we have this verse,
There are many verses saying that the Messenger received Al-Kitaab too.. Will just take one for reference
2129
"Our Lord! And raise up in their midst a messenger from among them who shall recite unto them Thy revelations, and shall instruct them in the Scripture and in wisdom and shall make them grow. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Mighty, Wise."
This is the famous Dua of Ibrahim Alayhis Salaam... Something worth noting here is, how Ibrahim is asking Allah to give his people Al-Kitaab... How does he know about Al-Kitaab? Seems we can have another thread for this...
Lo! Allah hath bought from the believers their lives and their wealth because the Garden will be theirs they shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. Who fulfilleth His covenant better than Allah? Rejoice then in your bargain that ye have made, for that is the supreme triumph.
This verse is talking about what Allah has promised to the Believer in At-Tawrat, Al-Injeel and Al-Quran... Study well this ayah, Do you think that Allah would have made different promises to the believer in these 3 scriptures? And also, I do not see the 'Book of Law' fit well here to replace Torah. In this ayah, all the 3 scriptures are mentioned altogether...
Now some proof from the Quran that these scriptures were in written/book form...
7157
"Those who follow the messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel (which are) with them. He will enjoin on them that which is right and forbid them that which is wrong. He will make lawful for them all good things and prohibit for them only the foul; and he will relieve them of their burden and the fetters that they used to wear. Then those who believe in him, and honour him, and help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him they are the successful."
"Those who follow the Apostle-Prophet, the Ummi, whom they find written down with them in the Taurat and the Injeel (who) enjoins them good and forbids them evil, and makes lawful to them the good things and makes unlawful to them impure things, and removes from them their burden and the shackles which were upon them; so (as for) those who believe in him and honor him and help him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him, these it is that are the successful."
I have included 2 translations because MAKTOOB is not well translated by most translators... MAKTOOB which comes out from the verb KATABA(to write) means WRITTEN and not described/mentioned etc... So this ayah alone is enough to make us know that the previous scriptures were in written form...
Hope to hear back...

Assalaam Alaikum @WayFinder
Ok, I can see that you have been indoctrinated with perceptions that are NOT defined in the Quran but from interpretation.
Lets take one point at a time.
@WayFinder your statement 'Firstly, The Tawrat and the Injeel was not revealed during Ibrahim Prophethood and was revealed after him...'
Your statement is indicative of the 'dispute' and position of those who have NOT taken their understanding from the Quran and the Muqama Ibraaheem / Standing Position of Ibraaheem
You People of the Book! Why dispute you about Abraham, when the Law and the Gospel Were are not revealed until after him? Have you no understanding?
The ayah is NOT referring to what was or was NOT revealed but its referring to the argument and statements of those who claim for some reason they have the Torah and Bible as an attribute of Al Kitab.
Ah! You are those who fell to disputing (Even) in matters of which you had some knowledge! but why dispute you in matters of which you have no knowledge? It is Allah Who knows, and you who know not!
Noah,as was BEFORE Ibraaheem,as and Ibraaheem,as followed the way of Noah,as
Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of 'Imran above all people,-
"Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!"
Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham. The same Sharah has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Nooh ( Noah) - that which We have sent by inspiration to you - and that which We enjoined on Ibraheem ( Abraham)
And this is in the Pages / Al-Suhuf of the earliest (Revelation),-
The Pages / Al-Suhuf of Abraham and Moses.Ibraaheem,as received the same inspiration that all the Prophets and Messengers received.
Say. We believe in Allah and what is revealed on us and what was revealed on Ibraheem/Abraham and Ismail/Isma?il and Ishaq/Isaac and Yaqoob/Jacob and tribes and what was given to Moosa/Moses Essa/Jesus and the prophet is from their Lord. We do not differentiate between anyone from them and for Him we are MUSLIMS/SUBMITTERS.
Understanding the status of Ibraaheem is when you understand the ayahs, when you recognize, understand and establish the mukamat / governing ayahs and confirm the Mukhamat / governing ayahs with the Injeel then you have understood and taken the Muqama Ibraaheem / Standing Position of Ibraaheem which is the status of Ibraaheem.
The 'status' of Ibraaheem,as is Imam, Siddiq, Bayyina, Haneef, Khaleel, etc.
Lets review briefly....
It is He Who sent down to you, in truth, the Book / Al Kitab, confirming what is between your two hands / musaddiqan li ma bayna yadayhi; and He sent down the Law / Al Tawrat and the Injeel / Al Injeel
But the Bible says.....
Old Testament Bible states ?We revealed the Torah to Moses? and according to Bible the Injeel / Gospel was revealed to Jesus alone in Matthew, Luke, John and Mark
In Sura 3.3 Allah states 'We sent down the Truth'.....
Lets confirm Al Tawrat and 'where' Al Tawrat resides and what is in Al Tawrat.....
In Al Tawrat is the Hukm / Governance of Allah...
And how can they govern you? And At-Tawrat / The Law is near them, in it is hukum / government of Allah. Then after that they turn away and they are not with the believers.
Al Tawrat has the Hukm / Governance of Allah ...What defines the Hukm of Allah?
It is He who has revealed Al-Kitab / The Book over you. In it are muhkamat / governing ayats / signs. They are the mother of Al-Kitab / The Book
In Al Kitab is Al Tawrat which has the Hukm of Allah and Mukhamat / Governing ayats are in the Suhufs that are being recited by the Messenger, Muhammad,as
An Messenger from Allah, rehearsing scriptures / suhuf's kept pure and holy.
Wherein BOOKS or Writings / kutubihi right and straight
Lets be clear on these points and references before moving forward, please respond accordingly.
I await your response.
-
Salam MTR,
Its indeed true that I have been indoctrinated to think that way... but I an striving to get out of this firm grip since quite some time now... And ask Allah for guidance... My study goes on.. I will study these ayah... and then will come back to you...
Kindest regards

Let the People of the Injeel / Ahlu al-Injeeli judge by what Allah has revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah has revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel.
Who are the 'People of Injeel'?
Give the reference from the Quran please.
I await your response to this question.
Salam,
Read 546 with 547 Isa was given the Injeel, verifying the Torah....a guidance for those who guard....and the people of the Injeel would be those who observe it/judge by it/follow it.
546
And We sent after them in their footsteps Isa, son of Marium, verifying what was before him of the Taurat and We gave him the Injeel in which was guidance and light, and verifying what was before it of Taurat and a guidance and an admonition for those who guard (against evil).
547
And the followers of the Injeel should have judged by what Allah revealed in it; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the transgressors.

Who are the 'People of Injeel'?
Answer...
And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him. We sent him the Injeel. In Al Injeel is guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that is between his two hands. a guidance and an admonition to those who have regard for Allah / mawAAithatan lil muttaqeena .
The Muttaqeen are NOT the Jews and Christians and NEVER have been the Muttaqeen
Where is the example of behavior and character of Ahlu Al-Injeel / People of Al-Injeel?
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. You will see them bow and prostrate themselves (in Prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their behavior in the Taurat; and their character in Al-Injeel is like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.
The People of Al-Injeel / Ahlu Al-Injeel are defined in the Quran NOT the Torah and Bible

Assalaam Alaikum
Now that we have identified who are Ahlu Al-Injeel / People of Al-Injeel (Good News, Recitation, Confirmation, Clarification)
We sent aforetime our Messengers with Clear Signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance (of Right and Wrong), that men may stand forth in justice; and We sent down Al Hadid(Limits, Boundaries and Commandments), in which is basun (great power), shadeedun (strong powerful and hard), as well as many benefits for mankind, that Allah may test who it is that will help, Unseen, Him and His Messengers. For Allah is Full of Strength, Exalted in Might (and able to enforce His Will).
And withoutdoubt We sent Nooh and Ibraheem and We have established the prophecy and the Book in their off-springs. Then amongst them are some who are guided ones and the majority amongst them are immoral / dissolute.
And thereupon We caused Our apostles to follow in their footsteps; and We caused them to be followed by Jesus, the son of Mary, and We gave him Al-Injeel / The Good News
What is the 'Good News' that Jesus / Essa,as was entrusted with, confirmed and delivered?
Injil;root words is NAJA?A means relaxation, wholesome, useful, beneficial & NAJA means to save, be saved, be rescued, safety, get away, be delivered, confide, confidant, entrust, take one into confidence & NAJAL means to beget, father, sire, son(sun), progeny; ALL meanings of Injil, successively.

Clarification
It is He Who sent down to you, in truth, the Book / Al Kitab, confirming what is between your two hands / musaddiqan li ma bayna yadayhi; and He sent down the Law / Al Tawrat and the Injeel / Al Injeel

-
There is no ayah in the Quran that says 'Obey Torah and Injeel'. Why are some of you so bent on attaching the Torah and Bible to the Quran?
Injil;root words is NAJAA means relaxation, wholesome, useful, beneficial & NAJA means to save, be saved, be rescued, safety, get away, be delivered, confide, confidant, entrust, take one into confidence & NAJAL means to beget, father, sire, son(sun), progeny; ALL meanings of Injil, successively.
Hans Wehr Arabic English Dictionary 4th Ed. page 1107 (najuba) page 1109 (najaa) page 1110 (naja)
Now the 'Bible'......
Biblos is given a false generic meaning Burnt Bricks and in Hebrew Bible Babel means confusion. However it is not a Greek word but adopted by them from the Caannanite/Phoenicians who gave them their alphabet it means burnt bricks from Babylon or BIBLE-On.
So in the infinite wisdom of the Creator, I must follow a 'written' document in its linguistic and cultural definitive means 'confusion'.
Now does that sound logical?
Proof would be more logical.

Entrusted.....
Say. Whoever is an enemy to GABRIEL-FOR HE BRINGS DOWN THE (REVELATION) TO THY HEART BY ALLAH'S WILL, a confirmation that is between your two hands, and guidance and glad tidings / good news for those who believe,-
Messengers who give good news as well as warning, that mankind, after (the coming) of the Messengers, should have no plea against Allah. For Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.
But Allah beareth witness that what Allah has sent you ALLAH HAS SENT FROM HIS KNOWLEDGE, and the angels bear witness. But enough is Allah for a witness.
Confirmation......
?And a messenger to the children of ISRAEL, that is ?I have come to you, with an AYAT(Sign) from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird . and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by ALLAH`s leave. and I heal the blind , and the leapers, and I give lilfe to the dead, by ALLAHS leave. And I inform you in what you consume, and what you store in your houses. Surely it is an ayat(sign) for you if you did believe;
Delivered......
And when ESSA, the son of Maryam said; ?O children of ISRAEL! Surely I am a messenger of Allah to you, confirming the TAURAH in my hands / influence or control and giving the good news of a messenger to come after me, Whose name shall be AHMED but when he came to them with clear signs, they said, ?This is clear MAGIC!?
The 'Good News' Essa,as delivered was the recognition of 'Ahmed', the 'praiseworthy one' (John 146 Comforter)

Salam MTR,
The above post makes it appear that you are actually confirming that the Injeel is in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), since you are referencing it and using verses to support it.
And for future reference the verses on the comforter/redeemer are in John 1416-27 (not John 146).
Salam,
Arnab -
Assalaam Alaikum
Arnab, You seem to be somewhat delusional. 'Selective Memory' and 'Intellectual Unfairness' are NOT virtuous character traits. We have already shown that the Torah and Bible you keep 'peddling' around as 'guidance' has NOTHING to do with the Al Kitab, Injeel, Al Toori, Al Tawrat or the Quran.
Personally, YOU, Arnab are just a 'means to an end', please keep that in mind.
Lets review......
Point One
It is He Who sent down to you, in truth, the Book / Al Kitab, confirming what is between your two hands / musaddiqan li ma bayna yadayhi; and He sent down the Law / Al Tawrat and the Injeel / Al Injeel
(revealed) FROM BEFORE, as a guidance to mankind / min qablu hudan lilnnasi, and it is He who has revealed / anzala the standard by which to discern the true from the false / Al-Furqan. Al Tawrat AND Al Injeel was revealed BEFORE Muusa,as AND Essa,as; to ALL Humankind (Muusa,as and Essa,as are NOT mentioned in the previous ayahs)
Point Two
Injil;root words is NAJA?A means relaxation, wholesome, useful, beneficial & NAJA means to save, be saved, be rescued, safety, get away, be delivered, confide, confidant, entrust, take one into confidence & NAJAL means to beget, father, sire, son(sun), progeny; ALL meanings of Injil, successively.

The People of Al-Injeel / Ahlu Al-Injeel are defined in the Quran NOT the Torah and Bible
Point Five
What! have We given them a Book before this, to which they are holding fast?
No! they say. "We found our fathers following a certain religion, and we do guide ourselves by their footsteps."
To Be Continued......
-
Point Six
The word "Torah" in Hebrew "is derived from the root which in the hifil conjugation means "to teach" (cf. Lev. 1011). The meaning of the word is therefore "teaching," "doctrine," or "instruction"; the commonly accepted "law" gives a wrong impression."
Rabinowitz, Louis Isaac and Harvey, Warren. "Torah." Encyclopaedia Judaica. Ed
The term "Torah" is therefore also used in the general sense to include both Judaism's written law and oral law, serving to encompass the entire spectrum of authoritative Jewish religious teachings throughout history, including the Mishnah, the Talmud, the Midrash and more, and the inaccurate rendering of "Torah" as "Law" may be an obstacle to "understanding the ideal that is summed up in the term talmud torah ( , "study of Torah,", characterized in Jewish tradition as excelling all things."
pp.164-165, Scherman, Exodus 1249
Point Seven
What does Judaism's authoritative Jewish religious teachings state about the 'Torah'?
Moed Erubin 21b
"?.And furthermore, my son, be admonished of making many books. My son be more careful in the observance of the words of the Scribes than in the words of the Torah, for in the laws of the Torah there are positive and negative precepts, but, as to the laws of the Scribes whoever transgresses any of the enactments of the Scribes incurs the penalty of death."KOHELETH 1211-14
The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails well fastened are those that are composed in collections; they are given from one shepherd.
And furthermore, My son, be admonished of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
The end of the matter, all having been heard fear G-d, and keep His commandments; for this is the whole man.
For G-d shall bring every work into the judgment concerning every hidden thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil."Isaiah 2913-15
And the L-rd said Forasmuch as this people draw near, and with their mouth and with their lips do honor Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear of Me is a commandment of men learned by rote (in writing);
Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the prudence of their prudent men shall be hid.
Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the L-RD, and their works are in the dark, and they say 'Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?'The 'Torah' has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Quran!

Peace MTR
Check the verse below... I quoted it in my previous posts also but you seem to have gone pass it... How will you interpret this verse?
Allatheena yattabiAAoona alrrasoola alnnabiyya alommiyya allathee yajidoonahu maktooban AAindahum fee alttawrati waalinjeeli yamuruhum bialmaAAroofi wayanhahum AAani almunkari wayuhillu lahumu alttayyibati wayuharrimu AAalayhimu alkhabaitha wayadaAAu AAanhum israhum waalaghlala allatee kanat AAalayhim faallatheena amanoo bihi waAAazzaroohu wanasaroohu waittabaAAoo alnnoora allathee onzila maAAahu olaika humu almuflihoona
7157 "Those who follow the apostle, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures),- in the law and the Gospel;- for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him,- it is they who will prosper."
What does MAKTOOB means here? From the dictionaries, we will always find it to mean WRITTEN ...
In this verse we have previous scriptures mentioned as well as a confirmation that they were written down... Was it written somewhere on a wall or something? Can a scripture be written on walls?
Hey bro... I do respect your opinion so do not take these words badly... Its just there for a little tawkeed
Peace

Its NOT 'Torah' that Muusa,as was given by Allah, swt it was 'Al Toori'......
There came to you Moses with clear (Signs); Yet you worshipped the calf (Even) after that, and you did behave wrongfully.
And remember We took your covenant and We raised above you of Mount / fawqakumu al-toora (Saying). "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and adhere / listen to the guidance / ismaAAoo ". They said." We hear, and we disobey." And they had to drink into their hearts (of the taint) of the calf because of their Faithlessness. Say. Peace MTR
Check the verse below... I quoted it in my previous posts also but you seem to have gone pass it... How will you interpret this verse?
What does MAKTOOB means here? From the dictionaries, we will always find it to mean WRITTEN ...
In this verse we have previous scriptures mentioned as well as a confirmation that they were written down... Was it written somewhere on a wall or something? Can a scripture be written on walls? D
Hey bro... I do respect your opinion so do not take these words badly... Its just there for a little tawkeed
Peace
Assalaam Aalaikum @Wayfinder
Please get the basics down first, before arguing a position you dont understand. One, there is nom reference to 'previous scriptures' in Sura 7.157.
Secondly, Lets bring you up to speed, real quick....
@Wayfinder....What does this mean? 'Allatheena yattabiAAoona alrrasoola alnnabiyya alommiyya '
Please dont use numerous translations, they are all wrong....
Take your time....

Salam,
MTR Your misunderstandings are based on the following
confused rendering of verses using a questionable understanding of Arabic,
largely unintelligible self-constructed grammatical rules,
and an unwillingness to read what others have posted to you regarding your misconceptions. All of your "points" have been addressed and proven inaccurate or false.
I see no need to keep re-addressing them each time you decide that you need to repeat yourself in this obsessive manner.
Salam,

I would like to know how you would translate this verse... Please take your time too....

So your 'proof' was changing EVERY reference in the English translation from 'Taurat' to 'Torah', in every ayah you can find? Then suggesting that the ayah is referring to 'Torah?
Thats your 'proof'?
- YOU dont know or read Arabic of Quran
- YOU have NOT studied the grammatical references as it relates to the Quran
- YOU cannot PROVE a lie Where are the 'misconceptions'?
Arnab, Parroting the perceptions of others, does NOT validate or confirm that you actually know and understand the subject matter.
What I have proven is that the Torah has no relevance to the Quran.
The reason why you did NOT address this question
"Arnab Which one is it? 'Al-Tawrat' or 'Al-Toori'?"
Is because you NEVER studied the Quran in depth enough to KNOW that Muusa,as was given Al-Toori.
Again, there is NOT one ayah that states 'I gave Muusa,as Al-Tawrat'
Now do a bit more research as it relates to Al-Toori and Al-Tawrat, then lets talk.
Please do NOT change the references to Al-Toori to Torah

Excuse me, YOU made the assertion, prove it. Why ask me?
Where is the mention of 'previous scriptures'? in the Arabic
By the way, Maktuub is an ACTIVE PARTICIPLE, derived verb, denoting constant/present tense, repetition/repeating and manifestation of the attribute.
I dont argue translations
