      Peace,

But The Torah and Gospels are also the Scriptures from God.
The name Allah is because Quran is in Arabic language.

      Maria

yes, i fully agree with u , we believe in all god scriptures

But as far as i understand God preserved the quran only, and asked us to follow it.

he told us in the quran that the other scriptures has been altered.

      peace

Yes, the Quran is the final scripture but God doesn't said it replaced but confirmed the other scriptures from God.

When you will post a quote, you must push the button for quote in the upper right corner of the message and then start write after this
      .

I don't think it is appropriate to use this word Jehovah. As the vowels for YHWH do not exist anymore.

Yeah the point was to show that they are same God.

This name Jehova, Yahweh was used in the Bible and we know that God says in Quran that we shall believe also in the previous scriptures as same as all his previous messengers.

of course, the quran is confirming the previous scriptures, God has one religion (Deen).
But my point is how can we be sure that these names you mentioned are not man made...created by scholars ???

i hope i did the qoute right this time ;D

                Peaceto all,

Mariah, also remember Jesus himself never called God Jehovah, or yahwe, he used an aramaic word eliha, which actually sounds closer to Allah,

                  Peace,

Yes, but I have copied some facts here from your link and that shows that in Quran there are similar meanings to that word Yahweh.

Does Quran Make Any Reference to YHWH?

So far we have learnt 4 points which I will list so as to refresh all that we have learnt so far

Actual pronunciation of YHWH is lost
                  YHWH means ?Self-Subsisting?, ?The Living?
Jesus did not use the term ?YHWH?
Christians cannot deny that traveling from Hebrew to Greek another term was used to refer to YHWH.

Thus we see that the Quran should have a reference to the term YHWH rather than having the term ?YHWH? as the Quran was revealed in the Arabic and not the Hebrew. The golden question thus would be was any such reference made to the term ?YHWH? in the Quran or by Prophet Muhammad (saw)?

The answer is a definite ?YES?.

We have learnt so far that the meaning of the term ?YHWH? is The Living, Self Subsisting and although the term ?Allah? is used in the Quran, this word simply means ?The God?.

However, we know that Islamic teachings inform us of 99 names (attributes) of Allah (swt) and the Quran informs us that to Allah (swt) belongs the most beautiful names and we can call him by any of these beautiful names

He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most beautiful names whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. ?

Say ?Call upon Allah, or call upon Rahman by whatever name ye call upon Him, (it is well) for to Him belong the Most beautiful names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between.? ?

Thus we see that there are many different names of Allah (swt), some of which I have listed below

Al-?Adl - The Just, The Equitable
                  Al-?Afuw - The Pardoner
                  Al-?Asim - The Protector
Ad-Dafi` - The Remover of Tribulations
Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem - The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Just like these above-mentioned beautiful names of Allah (swt) we also learn of two other names which are

                  Hayyul-Qayyum ? The Living, Self-Subsisting

                  YHWH ? The Living, Self-Subsisting

Here it has been proven that there is clear reference to the name YHWH in Islam which crumbles the Christian stand that Islam has no reference to the name YHWH and thus Prophet Muhammad (saw) is not the Messenger of Allah (swt).

                  Stressed Importance of Hayyul-Qayyum

One of the verses which has Allah (swt) referred to by the name Hayyul-Qayyum is in Ayat-ul-Qursi (The Verse of the Throne). Ayat-ul-Qursi has multitude benefits but apart from Ayat-ul-Qursi having its benefits, the verse with ?Hayyul-Qayyum? mentioned was referred to by Prophet Muhammad (saw) as the ?greatest?

Ubayy b. Ka'b said Allah's Messenger (May peace be upon him) said O Abu' al-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said Allah and His Apostle (May peace be upon him) know best. He again said Abu'l-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said "Allahu La ilaha illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyum." Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu'l-Mundhir! ?

In another narration, Prophet Muhammad (saw) heard the man use ?Hayyul-Qayyum? in his supplication and the Prophet (saw) said that he has supplicated using Allah?s Greatest Name

Narrated by Anas Ibn Malik I was sitting with the Apostle of Allah (pbuh) and a man was offering prayer. He then made supplication O Allah, I ask Thee by virtue of the fact that praise is due to Thee, there is no deity but Thou, Who showest favour and beneficence, the Originator of the Heavens and the earth, O Lord of Majesty and Splendour, O Living One, O Eternal One.

The Prophet (pbuh) then said He has supplicated Allah using His Greatest Name, when supplicated by this name, He answers, and when asked by this name He gives. ?

Yet another hadith to show the importance stressed by Prophet Muhammad (saw) on the Hayyul-Qayyum

Narrated by Asma' daughter of Yazid The Prophet (pbuh) said Allah's Greatest Name is in these two verses "And your deity is one deity; there is no deity but He, the Compassionate the Merciful," and the beginning of Surah Al 'Imran, A.L.M. "Allahu La ilaha illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyum." ?

                  Conclusion

With the grace of Allah (swt) it can be seen that is a clear reference to YHWH in the Quran. This reference is much stronger than what the Christians claim to be a reference to YHWH in the New Testament. The word ?ego eimi? is in no way the Greek word for YHWH nor does it hold the meaning of YHWH. However as seen, there is a clear reference to the term YHWH in the Quran as well as the Hadith.

The Quran gives us many beautiful names of Allah (swt), some of which have been mentioned above, and a Muslim can call upon Allah (swt) with any of his beautiful names unlike the followers of the Bible who do not even know how to pronounce the ?personal name? revealed to them. Indeed much of the truth in those books is lost just like the pronunciation of YHWH is lost and the Quran is sent to restore that which is lost ? The Criterion.

Some More Beautiful Names of Allah (swt)

Al-Ghani ? The Self-Sufficient, The Rich Beyond Need
                  Al-Awwal ? The First
                  Al-?Akhir ? The Last
Al-Barr ? The Source of All Goodness
                  A-Baqi ? The Everlasting One
                  Al-Haqq ? The Truth
                  Al-Khaliq ? The Creator
                  Al-Kafi ? The Sufficient One
                  Ash-Shahid ? The Witness

Indeed to Allah (swt) belong the most beautiful names.

                    Salam,

Exo 313 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Exo 314 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM (ahaya ashar ahaya) and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

                    In 314 the word is alif-ha-ya-ha basically "I exist/am/be"
In other places it is ya-ha-va/wa-ha which would be "he exists/is"

                    The root is haya (ha-ya-ha)

The root word retains the same meaning and usage in all the semitic languages and briefly/generally means exist, be, become

Essentially when someone says Jahovah/YHWH/Yehova/Yahawa they are saying He who exists/the existant one (or some variation thereof)

Next, if we can agree that Allah does indeed exist, then we can agree that to call Allah the existing one is indeed one of his attributes/appalations/names since He exists.

So, in my opinion, there should really be no objection to calling Allah YHWH, if you understand the meaning of the words. Unless, of course, the person objecting is an atheist.

                    Salam,
                    Arnab

Arnab is right; when saying Allah in Arabic, sometimes we say "Allahoo"--which means, in Arabic, Ella Howa (Thy One).
                            Yahawa = Ya + howa
                            = Ella + howa
                            = Thy One
Also, we can note that Issa = Jesus, Yousuf=Joeseph, Dawood=David, etc.
                            Thus, I believe that Yahawa=Allah.
                            Peace

                              Assalaam Alaikum

To the 'Torah Peddlers', the 'Torah' nor the Biblical text were revealed by Allah. References to YWHW, Jehovah, Yahweh are ALL derived terms from the imagination of Men.

"Yahweh defined This gloomy ruler has three names "The first name is Yaldabaoth. The second is Saklas (the fool). The third is Samael (god of the blind)."

Reference (The Secret Book of John, from Marvin Meyer's The Secret Teachings Of Jesus Four Gnostic Gospels, p.65, pub. A.D. 1986)

The early Israelites were actually polytheists and their other principle dieties were Baal/Baalzebub and Astaroth (who were later demonised of course).

Jdg 213 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

When the ancient Hebrew lexicographers added vowels to YHWH, they borrowed the vowels of the powerful Egyptian and Phoenician Sun God deities. When the vowels of the Egyptian Sun God Aten were added, YHWH became Y{A}HW{E}H...

When the vowels of the Phoenician Sun God Adonai were added, YHWH became Y{A}H{O}W{A}H, which finally became ?JEHOVAH? which translates ?I am? and ?The Eternal One? in Hebrew. The Hebrew verb is ?halvah,? from which the name YHWH is derived. The verb ?halvah? means, ?to be.?

From Mark S. Smith's The Early History of God Yahweh and the Other Deities in Ancient Israel

Yet early on, Yahweh is understood as Israel's god in distinction to El. Deuteronomy 328-9 casts Yahweh in the role of one of the sons of El

This is your biased, misguided, and uneducated opinion.

"Yahweh defined This gloomy ruler has three names "The first name is Yaldabaoth. The second is Saklas (the fool). The third is Samael (god of the blind)."

rotfl ok this made me laugh that you are actually trying to use Marvin Meyer as a reliable source to support your absurd argument. Not to mention what you stated above is absolutely NO WHERE in the Tanakh. Nor is it in The Gospels.

So, using someone's opinion based on their imagination is not reliable. Not to mention the fact that Marvin Meyers believes in "early Christian magic" among other absurdities.

The early Israelites were actually polytheists and their other principle dieties were Baal/Baalzebub and Astaroth (who were later demonised of course).

Jdg 213 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

As usual, you just pick a verse from the Tanakh without actually reading it or understanding it. This verse does nothing to support your claim that ALL the Isrealites were polytheists, full stop.

This verse is specifically about specific people of beni Israel after the death of Joshua, in a particular time and place.

NOT ALL ISREALITES. Not even the EARLY Isrealites. Joshua's death was AFTER Jacob, Joseph, Moses, the Exodus and the wilderness and the WHOLE of the Torah.

Picking a verse at random out of the Tanakh is no different than picking a verse out of the Quran at random without context to support some radical belief.

When the ancient Hebrew lexicographers added vowels to YHWH, they borrowed the vowels of the powerful Egyptian and Phoenician Sun God deities. When the vowels of the Egyptian Sun God Aten were added, YHWH became Y{A}HW{E}H...

There are no vowel markings in the original Hebrew text. Which is WHY no one can unanimously agree on a pronounciation.

When the vowels of the Phoenician Sun God Adonai were added, YHWH became Y{A}H{O}W{A}H, which finally became ?JEHOVAH?

Wrong. The UN-voweled original hebrew text reads YHWH.

The Masoretes added vowel pointings in the text to change the word to Adonai in the 8th century COMMON ERA. This was only to remind the reader to say Adonai instead of YHWH since the Rabbinical "scholars" created a HADITH that insisted that pronouncing any sacred name of God was blasphemy. Of course such a notion is not present in the Tanakh. The prohibition against saying God's name except in prayer was a man-made innovation.

which translates ?I am? and ?The Eternal One? in Hebrew. The Hebrew verb is ?halvah,? from which the name YHWH is derived. The verb ?halvah? means, ?to be.?

Wow, this is no different than if you were stating that every time we see Ar-Rahman in the Quran it is a different god than Allah, or everytime we see Al-Khaliq it is different that Allah or Ar-Rahman. Tell me why don't you extend this type of irrational interpretation to the Quran? rotfl

I hope you understand how ridiculous that would be.

Arnab is right; when saying Allah in Arabic, sometimes we say "Allahoo"--which means, in Arabic, Ella Howa (Thy One).
                                      Yahawa = Ya + howa
                                      = Ella + howa
                                      = Thy One
Also, we can note that Issa = Jesus, Yousuf=Joeseph, Dawood=David, etc.
                                      Thus, I believe that Yahawa=Allah.
                                      Peace

The Jewish Talmud, consisting of the Mishnah and Gemara, the equivalent of Muslim Hadith and Sunna, is a body of oral teachings of Jewish rabbis and jurists based on their interpretations and expositions of the scripture over a long period. In the words of the Jewish scholar Judah Goldin,

"... along with the revelation of the Written Torah was a revelation of an Oral Torah, that is, that interpretations of and deductions from the Scriptures must have accompanied the Scriptures themselves has at least this to recommend it no written text, particularly if it is meant as a guide for conduct, can in and of itself be complete; it must have some form of oral commentary associated with it. This much however is clear from the fifth century BC onward there was a conscious effort on the part teachers to expound the canonical books of the Torah, to make clear its meaning and its applicability. `To make clear the Torah of the Lord and put it into practice, and to teach in Israel statutes and ordinances' (Ezra 710) was not only the programme of Ezra but of the colleagues whom he attracted to himself, the Soferim ... It was the Soferim who made what was implicit in the Book of the Torah of God explicit and intelligible ..., and under their tutelage too, as times required, enactments and decrees were issued. Such teaching and legislation as the Soferim conducted through their schools and councils were carried on orally, in order to carefully distinguish between what was the Written Torah, Scripture, and the body of exegesis, interpretation by mouth, Oral Torah."

This historical testimony is self-explanatory. The theory of two revelations that the Traditionists had propagated is Jewish in origin and had its beginning in the teaching of scholar-priest Ezra, idolized by the Jews as the son of God, and his followers.

                                          Confirmed.....

The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them. how they are deluded away from the Truth!

? They have taken other than Allah their Ahbar / Scholars and their Rohban and the Christ son of Mary as lords. And they were not ordered except to serve one Allah. There is no Allah except Him. Glorify to Him from what they associate (with Him).
