In the Quran it is written that you should patiently bear and forgive. In another places it tells you to fight. How do you differentiate between "justice" and petty revenge?

I invite you to read the following article that I posted

    http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9604393.0

Also, you can read in health and fitness section my thread on recovery from schizophrenia and please tell me am I doing "justice" by posting these threads or am I just seeking petty revenge wich is actual weakness?

I know what so called justice is, but I am interested in your opinion!

    Peace and Thanks

The Quran only recognizes defensive war. You should fight those who fight you but never trangress. You should fight especially when its your faith that you are being targeted for.

Justice should be proportional (eye for an eye) and equitable (qist) and should be directed towards the actual party ( la taziru waziratu wizr ukhra). Forgiveness is allowed as a charity but not for murder or oppression.

Revenge is a negative feeling. Revenge can be disproportional (eye for an eye lash and a tooth for a jaw) and can de directed towards an innocent party (taking it out on those around you).

I guess what i meant is that the Quran established for us a criteria for justice. As long as you abide by that than you are following its guidelines. Revenge is too broad of a word. God takes revenge but He does so with justice as the Quran says that God does not retribute anyone unless he deserves it. Everyone we are told will be shown his deeds and everything will be shown to him, small or big. Blind revenge or disproportionate respone or taking it out on innocent parties is not the proper way to take revenge.

            Salaam, Ervin,

Firstly, in order to find out what is unwarranted revenge nd what is justice, you must determine whether what the purported transgressor has done or is doing is really causing harm, unfair harm, may be he is also taking revenge or justice. If he is doing harm, then you are right to fight him or her in the most intelligent and les harmful way. If to get justice you cause still more unjustice, may be you should go about it some other way.

Revenge, for the sake of revenge, is not healthful nor good for you, avoid it. But if your not doing something to stop opression is going to assist in that opression, then it is better to act.

I really pray that you get through your life with all the light and wisdom God may give you. It is a complicated life and a great trial for you. Surely God will be satisfied with all your efforts at healing and improving and for you social endeavours for the best causes. Just try to be patient and cautious.

Indeed we are all messengers for everybody else. We are what we are through everybody else and it is good that we are conscious of that part of our being so that we give the others the best of us.

Your feelings of peace and of God's presence are undoubtedly a great help to love God and life in general and be as good to His creatures as you can and give your prayers for them.

            Best wishes and regards

            Salaam
