The Midrash is mostly derived from, and based upon, the teachings of the Tannaim

          Hi there free-minders ,

I would like to share with you something weird. You are familiar with story of the man who God caused him to die for 100 years and resurrected him to see his food and drink is still fresh. One day, I was bored to death and decided to read some Jewish traditions for a change. How bad could it be!? ;D. So this story caught my eye.

          http//sacred-texts.com/jud/jftl/jftl19.htm

This story was supposed to be taken from the midrash and the talmud. How da heck did it come to the Quran?? & Or did jews hide some Torah in the midrash?? elektro or is it that the oral traditions are legitimate sources that God authenticated in His Quran?? brickwall

          Salam, Shalom and Peace.

I don?t see any problem they took such stories from the Books came down before Quran and added some name etc to it and Quran is confirming all previous Books Quran is not a separate book.

            Peace Barmack,
If the Tannaim was like a commentary on the Torah, where did the additional stories, which is found in the Quran , came from. Another Torah ? or the Rabbi's vivid imagination.

            Peace,

            Rami

              I have no idea.
ugg confusing but finding the older stories that are confirmed in the quran should help explain.
as it is for me i cant really come to any conclusions cuz i dont know hebrew.

              Peace

                Peace,

The current Tenach is a compilation that was made over the centuries. Many original texts where not included and thus left out as they were deemed not fit for the Rabbinac doctrine. Many fragments of these left-out texts ended up in the Middrash and Talmud. The Qur'an gives the most important parables and examples as a summary from the original scriptures given to the Hebrew people. As some of these examples are only to be found in the Talmud, it proves the above mentioned editing of the original scriptures by the Rabbi tradition. And thus also that the Hebrews tradition left their original teachings by editing many out, just as the Qur'an tells us.

Interesting point Arnold. To me that could definitely be one of the possibilities.

                    Peace,

This is why to me the word Torah in the Qur'an should not be approached as a title for a scripture, but rather as an overall label for what they have in total. They have the original Teachings spread out over the Tenach, Talmud and Middrash.

Same accounts for Injil in the Qur'an, it is not a title for one Gospel, but saying they have the Good News, which is spread out over many scriptures the Christians have. Also many parts of the original Good News is hidden, forgotten or neglected in many ancient Christian libraries in Monasteries.

This is why the Qur'an says the Jews and Christians have the Teachings and the Good News, but since they have mixed them up to much through editing them and their man-made doctrines, the Qur'an gives a summary of the most important ones and also shows where they went wrong.

From Bible studies, the above conclusion is the only acceptable one, the original messages being edited and spread out over their scriptures, instead of believing in one correct Torah or Gospel version.

This is a bump, but there's not a lot of activity in this section anyway.

First time I read the Quran seriously, wading through it in the Arabic, I was pleased when early on I reached the story of the man who slept/died for a 100 years. It was like a familiar face on my journey through the Quran. Honi HaMagel is one of my favorite figures from Judaism.

My pleasure was dashed to bits when I found out Muslims arbitrarily credited this story to Ezra.

Though I was a Sunni, this idiocy about Ezra I have just heard recently.

                          Are you an ex-Jew?

If yes, what do you think of the Quran being a Jewish fairy book?

I always think the Quran represents a Rabbi's thought of the god the god of Israel should have been.

It is very interesting to ask about what happened to the Garden of Eden when Adam was suspended and whether the cherubim can be unlocked? And what did Jospeh's dream mean? From where did Solomon had all his power? All is answered in the Quran.

Lord of the Rings is a NatGeo documentary in relation to this.

                          peace

I started the conversion process, but got fed up with it. Nothing saps my faith in God like exposure to clerics.

Conversion to what? What was your original faith?

Conversion to Judaism. I guess I didn't have a religion before that.
